From a sweet article I saw. (Also because they live in the same place I'm from in Mexico and I think my grandpa is part Tarahumara, which makes me part, which makes me feel badass).

They don't really answer how the tarahumara are able to have enough energy in order to be able to run those distances.

By eating enough and getting lots and lots of practice.
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.

Tesguino. Corn beer. Nah, just kidding, that isn't used too often. It's a whole lot of pinole and rice in their diet. I actually have pinole. I buy, like, 6 kilos every summer I'm there. I use it regularly. Most natives drink it with water, I drink it with milk. Tastes much better. I've had tesguino too. It's not bad. The alcohol content is incredibly small. You'd have to drink 3 or 4 liters to get drunk. At best you could get a small buzz. I'm not a drinker (nor should I be) so I have no idea, I've only tried a glass of the stuff.
