NEW YORK MARATHON TOMORROW!!
-
oh and here's how you can watch, if interested:
https://www.tcsnycmarathon.org/watch-nyc-marathon
KIPSANG & KEITANY are my picks. both monsters.
-
Shalane Flanagan just shocked the marathon world .. I mean she finished #2 in NY in 2010 or so, but hasn't competed in one for quite some time.. And she just beat Keitany impressively.
Incredible.
That's two major marathons won by Americans in a row.
The men's race is going strong. Kipsang/Kamworor/Desisa and one other battling it out.
-
Kamworor pulling away .. he's Kipchoge's training partner, he's a beast from all accounts. Kipsang trying to catch back up to him.
-
Kipsang lost by like 2s .. awesome finish. Kamworor had a big gap on him, and Kipsang slowly closed it in the last mile, and was very close to pulling it off at the end.

Cheptegei's 15km world record attempt:

apparently Parker Stinson is on his way to setting a course record at CIM @ 2:09:XX pace, in his debut marathon.. insane.
-
damn he cramped up at 21 and had to walk.. :/
Eric Finan got 15th, qualified for the olympic trials for Marathon. He's the guy I posted the strava workouts of sometimes. :ibrunning:

DAMN. INSANE.
the major marathon news today was:
Sandre Moen, 2:05 in Japan:
Sondre Moen goes from 2:12:47 to 2:10:07,to 2:05:48! Now, under the watchful eye of Renato Canova, Moen went from 13:30 to 13:20 for 5k, ran 27:55 for 10KPB, Plus a half marathon PB of 62:18! Big last 5k in 14:38! Photo courtesy of Andy Lyons/Getty Images for IAAF,
THAT'S INSANE ^^
Sarah Hall, 2nd marathon in 5 weeks, first woman to be a USATF marathon champ AND mile champ:
Parker Stinson on his "meltdown":
Believe in yourself even when no one else does. ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️
Today I tested my limits in my marathon debut. Today I found out my limits were 22 miles at 2:09:55 pace before some severe abdominal cramps and a right calve strain had me walking to the finish line. Next time I'm hoping to make it farther as there are no awards handed out to people for winning 90% of a race. However, I stand by what I said before the race...and I wouldn't change a thing. #YOLO
^^ :ibrunning:
-
My favorite conversion , once again:
2:05 marathon = 420 consecutive no rest 100m runs, 17.85 seconds each.
:motherofgod: :motherofgod: :motherofgod:
-

:motherofgod: :motherofgod: :motherofgod:
yup.. it's absolutely incredible.
and the improvement of Moen is incredible. If you get bored, wonder what his 100m's improved to, going from 2:12:47 to 2:05:48 :D :ninja: :highfive: :ibrunning:
I was putting it into perspective for my Aunt yesterday .. I was telling her that the guy who won yesterday's 1 mile race @ 4:33, well, the best marathoner in the world (Kipchoge) runs 26.2 miles at basically that pace (4:35) (2:00:32 for breaking2).
she wuz like. wot.

Performance of the week: SONDRE MOEN - EUROPEAN MARATHON RECORD
🇳🇴
On Sunday in Japan at the Fukuoka International Marathon, Norway’s Sondre Moen took the tape in 2.05:48 and became the first European to run a 2.05 Marathon.
🇳🇴
Moen’s race win and European Record is our performance of the week.
🇳🇴
Moen has been in fantastic shape in recent months having run a sub 28minute road 10k in September followed by a Norwegian record over Half Marathon in October in Valencia when he ran under the 1hour barrier clocking 59:48.
🇳🇴
He is a favourite of ours at The Kenya Experience as he completes much of his training in Iten, under the tutelage of Renato Canova, so we were delighted to see this breakthrough performance.
🇳🇴
The race on Sunday morning followed the planned 3’00”/km pace throughout the first 30km which was reached right on 3minute average pace. At that point pre race favourite Bedan Karoki of Kenya made a move and increased the pace into the mid 2’50’s. Moen went with him and it ended up being he, rather than the Kenyan who continued to push the pace in the latter stages of the race.
🇳🇴
Running the 29:16 for the 10km from 30-40 was more than enough to do irreparable damage to Karoki, who faded and was passed by Uganda’s 2012 Olympic Champion Stephen Kiprotich and Japan’s Suguru Osako in the latter stages of the race, and set Moen up for the win. The question then became how fast could the Norwegian man go, and in running the final 2.2k in 6:24 he ensured his name is now forever in the record books as the first European athlete to break the 2:06 barrier.
🇳🇴
Race Results:
1 Sondre Nordstad Moen (NOR) 2:05:48
2 Stephen Kiprotich (UGA) 2:07:10
3 Suguru Osako (JPN) 2:07:19
4 Bedan Karoki (KEN) 2:08:44
5 Ammanuel Mesel (ERI) 2:09:22
6 Daisuke Uekado (JPN) 2:09:27
7 Yoshiki Takenouchi (JPN) 2:10:01
8 Michael Githae (KEN) 2:10:46
9 Yuki Kawauchi (JPN) 2:10:53
10 Takuya Fukatsu (JPN) 2:12:04

-
amazing finish to the Women's 1500m, WOW. Praught-Leer and McDonald, incredible. Even tho McDonald got 5th, she helped bring the pack back up to the Ethiopians. Incredible.
Also, Jenna Westaway is so legit. Won the women's 800m. A clip of her training with Eke (a man) heh:
flying.

Man.. Cheserek can run. This dude is insane.

some local news! this is one of the best local runners, Elliot Mason .. won the 305 half this weekend, like 1:17 .. looks like Mo Farah :D

nice clip .. he's got such a serious stride. Trained with him a few times, his stride length is what stands out to me .. another reason I make the Farah reference.

Galen Rupp, 59:49 @ "RomaOstia Half Marathon"

The #1 ranked runner in the world, for the wings for life run, ran it out of Sunrise FL (a few minutes from me).
https://results.wingsforlifeworldrun.com/us/en/2018
Tons of people I know did it. I didn't realize how fun it was, looks awesome. Definitely doing this next year.
Also a local female got ~135th overall in the world (13th female in the world), and won Australia. Apparently, when you win a location, they pay for you to run it wherever you want - in the next race. So she won Sunrise FL last year, and chose to run it in AU.

i watched the last ~8 km of prague, when he was battling with sisay and then just dusted him with like two miles to go. opened up an 80-100m lead and that was all she wrote.
he puked immediately after finishing, too. it was funny: big smile with arms raised as he crossed the finish line, spit, a few steps to the right, puke.

lagat winning is bonkers
but isn't it a bad sign for US running that a 43 year old won a national title?
ya I imagine it is. Lopez Lomong is just coming off winning the USA championships on track for 10k, and he got 5th (IIRC) in this race. Could have been dead from that, so to could people he competed with that night. But still there should be more Americans in solid enough shape to beat 30-40 year olds in a 10k road race.
https://www.athlinks.com/event/115192/results/Event/662599/Course/1040502/Results
look at the results.. dominated by people over 30 or late 20's, and 2 guys over 40.
i'd def say that's a bad sign for US running. How do you just not have more than enough young dudes capable of taking down those beasts? Apparently in Kenya, young Kenyans knock off top runners all of the time in XC races or dirt track races. Like you can expect to see "no names" go in there and beat the beasts (if they show up). The young folks are just itching to take down the best runners and make a name for themselves etc. Some random 10k XC results I found:
http://www.athleticskenya.or.ke/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/National-Cross-Country-Championships-Results-2018.pdf
more misc results: (awesome find, I know!)
http://www.athleticskenya.or.ke/statistics/results/
Also says some incredible things about longevity in running, 2 guys in there over 40 (Lagat=43, Castille=45).

1904 marathon news:
Did you know
It was quickly discovered that USA's Fred Lorz, who crossed the line first at the 1904 Olympics, had cheated by flagging down a car and riding 11 miles as a passenger. He was disqualified and the victory was awarded to his compatriot Thomas Hicks, who (narrowly) survived the rigours of a race run in temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius thanks to a combination of brandy and strychnine.
wtf. lmao.

Ethiopian teenager Amdework Walelegn, 19, who already this year has wins at the Istanbul Half Marathon (59:50) and the Laredo 10K in Spain (27:37)
19 and already under 60:00 hm and 28:00 10k. jesus.
Another notable American in the field is Olympic gold medal triathlete Gwen Jorgensen, 32, who last fall retired from the triathlon and began her quest to reach the 2020 Olympic marathon. An All-American runner at the University of Wisconsin, she won a 10,000m invite at Stanford (31:55.68) this spring, placed 4th at the USATF Half Marathon Championship (1:10:58) and took 5th at the USATF 10K Championship at the Peachtree Road Race earlier this month.
i read a story about her recently. she's a beeeeeast. realized after college that she didn't have the talent to be world elite but has a stupefying work capacity, so got recruited by USA triathlon and hey gold medal.

ya, she's legit.
she ran pretty "bad" today but, apparently crazy humid.
almost everyone ran "slow".
top 4 females did pretty good tho.. but on the men's side.. omfg. Jake with the slaughter.

JAKE vs Mo
the rematch, tomorrow!
Great North Run!
going to be sick. I predict Jake will drop the hammer early, try to hurt everyone early, no comfort, all pain. If he executes that, he'll get his sub60 half & beat Mo. Should be a great race.
-
so apparently Mo hammered the pace early.. 4:22 opening mile.
only one that ended up sticking with him by the end was Jake, but Mo blew the lead open with 2 miles to go.
59:26 for Mo....... massive run, 3s shy of his pb. He's fit as fu*k going into Chicago (October).
Jake joined the sub60 club (59:57).

got a german language stream on in the background while i do some work. it's amazing to watch the start of a race that big, thousands and thousands of people squeezing together toward the start line and then breaking into a run in a continuous wave.
leaders hit the first km in 2:43. i did 3:41 as one of two tempo kms yesterday. :derp: :uhcomeon: :goodjobbro: :almostascoolasnyancat:

fun being around that many runners tho, tons of energy.

2:01:39 for KIPCHOGE. massive WR (-1:18).
http://results.scc-events.com/2018/?pid=leaderboard
very impressive: For the top 10 men/women, 3 Japanese runners in each group. JPN doesn't mess around!
Also: No one from the US in the top 10 for either gender. That shouldn't happen tbh, but it makes sense given the depth of the US in marathoning.
-
mindblown how fast Hassan ran a half marathon.. she's basically in peak mile shape, almost peak 5k shape.. and she drops a 1:05:15. Not too far off the women's WR.. WTF?
her male (project oregon) teammate (Kejelcha) also ran an insane half time, 59:17.. and he's in peak 3k/5k shape.
pretty crazy.
I didn't even know those two ran halfs...
Hassan got the women's EU record.
they have a great site! seems like a great half.

bruh. she PR'd her half by 12 minutes...........
?hl=en&taken-by=sifanhassan
?!?!?! insane. She also set several more records. lmfao!!
Here is when I realized I ran an European record on the half marathon! 😁
And on 15k and 20k. And a Dutch record on 10k. And I also improved my PB with 12 minutes 🤣
truly crazy.
-
oregon project, massive PR...drugs. gotta at least suspect given how much smoke there is.
-
oregon project, massive PR...drugs. gotta at least suspect given how much smoke there is.
i dno.. has there been recent smoke though? alot of the smoke is pretty old AFAIK.
i mean these two athletes are world class. hassan is a 4:15 miler, 14:23 5k etc - both a month or so ago.. kejelcha is ridiculous too (12:5X 5k? last month and sub8 2 mile a few months ago). just didn't know they had half marathon endurance.
both times are astonishing to me though.. half marathon specialist times. but then I guess Mo can go from 5k/10k shape and drop 59:23 so, no idea. maybe half marathon specialist is sub59 for men. but for women, 1:05 is definitely among the best, that's upper echelon.
i'm naive to drugs. don't see how hassan/kejelcha would be cheating, especially being under project oregon: rupp is one of the most tested athletes in the world etc. tons of scrutiny of project oregon comes with more testing.
i personally don't like making drug allegations, especially for athletes like this who have never had problems. takes away from their accomplishments.
pc!

lance armstrong was the most tested athlete in the world at one time. maybe i'm just being cynical, but the smoke ain't that old: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/19/sports/nike-oregon-project-alberto-salazar-dathan-ritzenhein.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share&_r=0

ya that's bad stuff.
i guess the definition of "old" is the question. alot of that happened 4+ years ago etc. Hassan/Kejelcha have only been training with him and the project for a few years, iirc.
but ya, it'd be great if they just ditched Salazar and picked up a clean coach to run it.
that testimony from Datahn is very damning.

MO FARAH, Rupp, Kirui, Mutai etc
crazy looking at the elite list.. how the fastest guys on there (2:04 guys) are "completely unknown" to most folks who follow running somewhat.
Also curious what Parker Stinson does. His CIM full was on pace to be 2:10 ish before he blew up due to cramps at like mile 22.
Mo is in incredible shape right now.. that Great North half he did (where he beat Jake) was really rough apparently, tons of headwind.. still dropped 59:26 or whatever. That's prime shape for him, and now he has marathon experience.
Galen in form to break the American Record too..
excited for CHI.

^^ just a reminder, JPN pays HUGE $$
http://japanrunningnews.blogspot.com/2018/02/shitaras-million-dollar-payday.html
:D
Under the plan, any Japanese citizen, whether a registered corporate league athlete or not, who broke the men's national record of 2:06:16 or the women's record of 2:19:12 on a record-legal course would receive 100 million yen, roughly 760,000 Euro or $937,000 USD at today's exchange rate. The athlete's coach or team would also receive a separate 50 million yen (380,000 Euro or $468,000 USD) bonus for their role in having made the record happen. If more than one athlete broke the record in the same race, the other athletes breaking the record would receive 10 million yen (76,000 Euro / $94,000 USD), with their coach or team getting 5 million yen (38,000 Euro / $47,000 USD).

https://runningmagazine.ca/sections/runs-races/mike-wardian-and-susannah-gill-win-world-marathon-challenge/
mike wardian wins the 7 marathons 7 continents 7 days challenge.
Mike Wardian of Arlington, Virginia and Susannah Gill of Great Britain have won the World Marathon Challenge, which took place on seven continents over the last seven days. Wardian finished the final marathon, in Miami, last night in 2:53:03. Gill finished in 3:26:34, winning all but the first of the seven marathons (she was second in Antarctica on January 31), setting a new world record in the process, with an average finishing time of 3:28. (The previous women’s record of 3:55 was held by Becca Pizzi of Belmont, Mass.) Wardian holds the world record for men, of 2:45, from 2017.
im really confused tho.... there was a marathon in Miami last night? wtf?

edit: they stretchered him off with oxygen/shirt off/blanket covering most of him. he didn't look good. fuck that is awful. really hoping he is ok.
i actually think about that happening to me quite often.. heart can just give out whenever. freaky to think about. :/

Hoka One One put on an awesome event to market their new carbon fiber plate accelerated foot rocker clown shoes, similar to the VaporFly 4% clown shoes. I'm personally not a fan of this new stuff, these shoes feel mechanical. I got the vapor fly 4%'s to test them, and I absolutely hate them. They don't feel like "real" shoes.
regardless.. Walmsley set a 50 mile world record. Incredible pace.. 5:48 IIRC.

footage from Stinson's 25km american record.
25k (15.5343 miles) is a hard distance for many fans to put their minds around so maybe this will help. Stinson hit 10k in 29:20, split 62:03 for the half marathon and still had another 2.42 miles to go.
i dno like 4:42 min/mi pace or something like that.

oh btw there's a new guy on the 5k scene.
Telahun Bekele
dropped 12:52 at Rome Diamond League, for the world lead.
then 5 days later, drops 12:57.
after his wins, he runs around freaking out for like 10 minutes. he seems pretty amp'd. exciting.
he beat a stacked field at Rome, including Barega who hit 12:43 last year, at 19 y/o.

1. Cheptegei
2. Chelimo
3. Berega

Sifan Hassan, gutsy 300m. man she gives everything. always completely spent by the end.
Cheruiyot wins the bowerman mile. Great finish to that race.
Coleman, 9.70 100m.
lol @ people thinking Norman was going to break the 400m WR today, gtfo. people are nuts. he ran like 44.60. How's he going to break the WR without people helping him (ie a crazy fast race). Just don't see it happening unless he's pushed.
Castor 1:55 800m.
Emma with another huge 2nd place in the 300m steeple.

glad Shelbo got beat today in the 1500m. her sit & kick style is awful.

adarq, looks like your boy jakob ingebrigtsen ran a 3:51.30, PB but got nipped by his brother for a podium spot by two hundredths of a second. he's still a teenager. gotta imagine he's got WR potential.
great race. cheruiyot took care of business and wasn't really threatened at the end but everything behind him was dramatic.

ya i know. he's a monster. 3:51 @ 18 y/o. that 3:43 WR is absolutely psycho, not sure i'd think about him in that territory yet. but man he races with balls. that's why the sky's the limit for this kid. not only does he have talent/work ethic, but he hangs up there with the Kenyans etc.. he almost chased down Cheruiyot 2 races ago.
Cheruiyot is the best over the last few years. He's a front runner & always brings it. Really love watching him race.
His "teammate" (manangoi) is having a really bad year so far, it's weird.
As for the WR, the biggest threat to it right now is Yomif IMHO, but he's so hit-or-miss. When he's on tho, man is he lethal. He ran that 3:46 indoor mile recently (indoor WR). He wants to run 5k/10k for Ethiopia in the Olympics I think. But there's some real monsters at 5k/10k right now (barega, rhonex, cheptegei). I mean he might not even make the Ethiopian squad, that country is so stacked. There's probably 3-4 Ethiopians better than him in both 5k & 10k. I think he'd actually have a better chance at 1500m if he really focused on it. I doubt there's anyone in his country who could compete with him at 1500m. It looks like he makes himself "stale" with some of these 5k's he races.
There's lots of incredible young dudes out there right now. Jakob, Rhonex, and Barega for example.
Barega dropped a 12:43 5k @ 18..
Rhonex dropped a 26:45 road 10k @ 18..
Jakob dropped a 3:51 mile @ 18..
The distance running future is BRIGHT AS FU*K. Exciting. :wowthatwasnutswtf:
:D

that also just shows how tiny the margins are at the top and how hard it is to improve. what you're saying is, in effect, that you don't think jakob ingebrigtsen can improve by 3.5% on his current PB, even though he's still growing and has only a few years of serious training under his belt. and you're probably right. well, i hope someone gets it. would be a thrill.

i hope someone gets it as well. it's an incredible record. 2nd place in that race also broke the WR and ran a "slower" 3:43. Yomif has gotten the closest since (indoor - 3:47.01), i think.
https://www.iaaf.org/records/all-time-toplists/middlelong/one-mile/outdoor/men/senior
crazy. 3:43, 3:43, 3:44, 3:46. It's one of those nearly untouchable records.
Jakob ran 3:52 last year at the Prefontaine Classic. His 3:51 is a great improvement for sure. Every second from here on is enormous, going to be extremely difficult getting that 3:43, especially the way milers/1500m guys run nowadays. Too many sit & kick races. You rarely see people going under 3:50 anymore. If more guys pressed up front, you'd see these times start dropping.
Cheruiyot could probably consistently get under 3:50 (in fast races) right now, but even he lacks that next level to get under 3:46 IMHO. Jakob has no fear trying to chase down Cheruiyot so, he won't be too far off chasing a guy like that. He'll get some big times that way.
Jakob is up there battling with Kenyans, he's the real deal lmao.
Can't wait to see how everything plays out for the Olympic trials/2020 Olympics. Lots of young hungry folks looking to takeover.
-
Wow, nice search engine by IAAF there.
Did a quick search. Since 1/1/2015 , the last 5 years that is with the current one being the 5th, only 4 times below 3:50 were registered, none of which was below 3:49.
15 times the last decade, none below 3:47.
Dunno, 3:43 seems like a few galaxies away.

ya exactly. that's what i was on about.
times have gotten alot slower.
IMHO, i really think it has to do with races being more strategic now. there's too many sit & kick types out there. need more people who are willing to push the limits early.
an example would be Eliud Kipchoge in the marathon.. he's not a "sit & kick type", goes out at world record pace pretty much every race. That's the kind of mindset we'd need to see from today's milers. I never see it.
here's the perfect example of what's wrong with today's milers, 2016 1500m results:
Results:
1. 3:50.00 Matt Centrowitz (USA)
2. 3:50.11 Taoufik Makhloufi (ALG)
3. 3:50.24 Nick Willis (NZL)
4. 3:50.29 Ayanleh Souleiman (DJI)
5. 3:50.58 Abdalaati Iguider (MAR)
6. 3:50.87 Asbel Kiprop (KEN)
7. 3:51.06 David Bustos (ESP)
8. 3:51.09 Ben Blankenship (USA)
9. 3:51.39 Ryan Gregson (AUS)
10. 3:51.45 Nate Brannen (CAN)
11. 3:51.68 Ronald Musagala (UGA)
12. 3:51.73 Charlie Grice (GBR)
13. 3:56.76 Ronald Kwemoi (KEN)
The winning time is the slowest in an Olympic final since 1932, when the men's world record in the mile was 4:09. Here's how much Centro won his historic gold by; that's Willis's leg on the right of the frame.
props to Centro but that's "pathetic". everyone just sat back, relaxed, and tried to win on a kick. Prefontaine was rolling in his grave.
In fact, at the recent Prefontaine classic, Centro ran 3:52 for the mile, not too far from his gold medal 1500m, but 100m longer.
Cheruiyot ran 3:50.49 @ Pre .. ALMOST faster than the gold medal 1500m in 2016.
That's not going to happen in 2020.. Cheruiyot will make sure of that.
I want to see people gun it. I definitely get frustrated watching slow sit & kick races. All you need is *one* person to go out hard, make it a real race, & dismantle that slow "hang back" pack.
;f

like i always say about my dude RHONEX, he's the real deal.
50k bonus today, beating a long standing peach tree 10k road record. it says he ran 27:01, but you can also see him crossing at 26:59. He did this *in heat/humidity* and it's the fastest time ever run in the US (for a road 10k).
RHONEX is 19.

Lausanne Diamond League was awesome.
Yomif won the 5k w/ Barega #2, Cheruiyot the 1500m with Jakob #2.
Jakob with a huge PB, 3:30 !
Cheruiyot drops a nasty 3:28.. :ibrunning:
Jakob needs to change his style up slightly... his final kick has him running WIDE AS FU*K on the last two turns (of the last lap). He's running OVER-DISTANCE. Cheruiyot front runs and hugs the inside of lane 1. Jakob runs wide alot.. and still dropped a 3:30. that's kind of psycho.

Monoco Diamond League was epic.
biggest news of the night, Sifan Hassan breaks the women's mile WR (4:12.x). She got a horrible start too.. had to really work to catch the pace maker.
Jakob tried to battle Cheruiyot up front in an incredible race. Cheruiyot breaks 3:30 again.
Nijel Amos going under 1:42 for 800m again.
Noah losing to Gatlin in the 100m by a hundredth.
Men's 400m was a debacle.. really sucks. Someone false started, but two guys kept running and finished the 400m, only to find out that the race had stopped nearly a minute ago. Both of those guys couldn't (obviously) compete when they started the race again. To top it off, the guy who false started didn't even get disqualified, and was able to race.. wtf?
-
her celebration was awesome.
a competitor congratulated her well after the race, then told her to go take a lap, and Sifan asked her to run the lap with her. lool.
\o/
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/sifan-hassan-world-record-mile_n_5d28e8f8e4b0bd7d1e1c31a8
ahhh.. she even posted a photo with her after the race:
I ❤️ the feeling of after my race WR 4️⃣:1️⃣2️⃣.3️⃣3️⃣🙀.... congratulation to @lauraweightman1 you’re awesome 👏🏾.
I don't really think that was going to happen, until Sifan received the "epic congrats" from Weightman. It seemed Sifan just really appreciated it & now has a new best friend lol. That's the vibe I get anyway.
pretty cool.

1. Simpson
2. Houlihan

3. Hiltz
Hiltz being the wild card. She's pretty beast. Great to see her get on Team USA.

diamond league finals.
Sifan doubled 1500m, 5000m. Her teammate gets 3rd. They are becoming a great force in 1500m & 5000m. Now everyone is waiting to see what Sifan tries to double in the World Championships.. 1500m + 10k? or 5k + 10k? 1500m + 10k sounds awesome. I kinda hope she does that. You never hear of someone doing that. The speed & endurance it takes to be able to win both of those is nuts.
Noah doubled 100m, 200m.
Cheruiyot dominates 1500m. Jakob gets 2nd.
300m steeple race was great. awesome finish.

5th Avenue Mile:

COPENHAGEN HALF MARATHON 2019-09-15 !!
This is always one of the fastest half marathons.
Kamworor plans to try and break the course record (58:40).
I downloaded the "cphhalf" app, apparently it has several video streams on it.. plan to try and watch it. Always one of my favorite races to watch.
https://cphhalf.dk/en/
kamworor also "designed" a shoe for this year's race, looks pretty slick, love the colors he picked:

was hoping not to get spoiled....... but first search on YT, spoiled.
INSANE.
dude almost went under 58, that is incredible.
Being that he's one of Eliud's top training partners, it makes this even more significant. Eliud is going to go under 2.
can't wait to watch the full race.
man I knew i should have stayed up for it :<
He claimed in an interview that he wanted to break the WR. Knew this was a possibility. But 58:15 or whatever it was before, that's some serious stuff.. And here he drops 58:01.
~4:25 min/mi /// 2:45 min/km :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

that dude almost clipped the winner in the last few KM as well.

same. fuqn salazar. bleh.
Mo be in incredible shape after all of the marathon training he's been doing. his speed will come back. so i think he'd be a legit threat.
right now, cheptegei is looking like the man to beat at 10k. but he may try to double in 2020 (5k/10k). if he does that, then dno.
he got injured last year tho so dno. hope he keeps it going. love how he races - usually trying to lead the entire way.

that article is cool, didn't know they had quite so much history. bekele owned him on the track 10-15 years ago, then as they got older and switched to road kipchoge took over. but shit, 2:01:41 means bekele can absolutely go head-to-head with kipchoge now. let us pray for a photo finish.

yea he's an absolute beast. welmsley could probably get 2:11 or so maybe.
I feel like top-3 will be 2:10+ .. should be a dog fight at the end by several folks. don't think he'll be in the top 3 mix but i think he could be close. would be nuts if he got top 3.
People say rupp is a lock for top 3 but i'm not so sure. I just don't think he's healthy.
i think it'll be Ward, Fauble, maybe Stinson (if he's healthy) or even Bernard Lagat. I think Bernard will be able to hang longer than most expect. Plus he's just so damn skilled & rises to the occasion. Would love to see him make the marathon squad. That would be so mindblowing.
For women, i think it'll be Hall, Sisson, Linden.
I think Hassay won't be healthy either. Her & Rupp (both from project Oregon), seem wrecked lately. Sux.

some absolutely incredible performances.
the most incredible was Molly Siedel's (sp?) first marathon, earning a spot on the US Olympic Team. That is unreal.
blake riley also got the third spot for the men.
abdi gets to his 5th olympics.
rupp's win was so impressive. didn't think he'd get it done due to his health issues over the last few years.
that course looked so tough. hills everywhere.
the men still dropped some great times, crazy.

Stewart Mcsweyn is in career best form. He just broke another Australian National Record in the 1500m at the Wanda Diamond League in Doha in a time of 3:30:51! If he keeps improving he might have a chance of a medal at the Olympics.

that's incredible & weird.

57:31 wtf?
rhonex, 57:49 half marathon debut. wtf?
Yet none of those record-breaking runs could compare to what unfolded on Sunday morning at the Valencia Half Marathon. In a race that redefined the limits of the 13.1-mile event, the first four finishers ran under Geoffrey Kamworor’s 58:01 world record.
The sub-58:00 club, which a few hours ago did not even exist, now has four members. Road running has officially gone insane.
wtf.
-
Incredible!!!
BTW , 58 minutes half marathon is 2:45 average pace! For 21 consecutive KMs.
Or if you prefer, 4 consecutive 5K runs at around 13:45
That was the 5K WR in the 50s.
That is faster than the current women 5K WR.
If the woman WR holder started her run together right when they completed 16K, and repeated her WR run, she would finish last ,15 seconds or so behind!!!!!
I will never ever get over the awe that those conversions cause. :o

yea man it's a bummer.
it's beyond a ban now, unfortunately. we're just looking at two different sets of records now. but it's all going to get blurred. really sucks.
hope they ban them from olympic marathon etc.. but it's also a tough questions because shoe tech varies so much, even without the double/triple carbon fiber spring action systems. bleh.
i tell you what tho.. get a pair of vaporfly 4%'s or any of these shoes.. and you'll def respect the performances a bit more - i don't know how they run in these new shoes. they feel like clown shoes. ran a few times in them and absolutely hated it. i'll take my minimalist af 3-4 oz shoes any day over those contraptions.
no idea how they run so fast in them.

-
The Pegasus2 Turbo that i am currently using are probably the same shoe, minus the carbon plate. Ill tell you, they are amazing. The other day, trying to figure out if they are responsible for my knee pain, i went out for a normal run in my race shoes ( Adidas Takumi Sen 5 ). I was shocked, they used to feel somewhat cushioned in the past, before the Nikes, now they felt like they don't have any cushion at all, like i was running barefoot.
This Nike ZoomX cushion is amazing, it fells like a mushy plush cloud when walking, actually feeling a little unstable too. But when you push, it somehow turns into a firm responsive stable and fast AF feel. Also pretty lightweight for that quantity of cushion. Not as much as the Takumis ( 230g vs 170g ) but still lightweight.
I bought the Nikes as an everyday versatile trainer, well cushioned to handle long runs but also fast for the intense days. But right now I would really be torn which of them to use in a 10K race.
