I'm going out on a limb..... I'm going to say that Ben Simmons will be the GOAT when it's all said and done.... assuming he doesn't have another devastating injury....

>MJ, Lebron, Kobe, Wilt, Russell, Jerry West, Kareem, KD, etc etc etc.....
33yrs | 24in SVJ | >45% BF | 227LB | 5'9 | 7'5 reach | 400lb max squat paused | 5'8 wingspan | 26in RVJ

Coming back from 2 years of inactivity!

Goal: Maintain 385-405lb squat while cutting down to 165 LB

as it stands right now, worthy of applause. :goodjobbro:

I mean, we knew he would be at least decent .. but you gave him some seriously high praise and he's living up to it already. :highfive: :goodjobbro:

One thing to note is that he got ruled out of his real rookie year early with a foot fracture and spent a whole year with all the benefits of an NBA team, training, getting fed right etc. So even though he hadn't played a game before this season, he's more NBA-ready than most rookies. Similar thing happened with Blake Griffin and Embiid.

But yeah, he's a hell of a player - I didn't think he was this athletic. Great passer as well. Technically Australian, so our 2020 Olympic team looks good:

PG: Simmons
SG: Mills
SF: Ingles (possibly a bit old by 2020 but has an old man's game)
PF: Maker
C: Baynes

All starting or solid rotational players in the NBA. Dellavedova and Exum on the bench as well.

that's a serious lineup.. Maker will be very legit by 2020.

ben is special.... i dont care what anyone says..... he's the total package.... he's more special than MJ..... the basketball world has never seen anything like him imo.....

lost me at "more special than MJ".. lulz.

:uhhhfacepalm:

should be customary to never utter such a thing, until way down the line, when someone is mostly responsible for 3 titles etc.. :D

FDL you crack me up sometimes, you can write 1000 words and i'll be cool with 980 of them, but then you figure out how to trigger me... :highfive:

seriously, loving watching Simmons.. but also, MJ is still the most ruthless, clutch, losing not an option, perpetually improving player I have ever seen. I've never seen anyone come close to his level, not even Kobe ... and Kobe is one of the greatest ever.

One key difference between Kobe & Lebron, is how they handle losing. Lebron can handle losing a regular season game pretty well .... not several in a row etc, but just one? sure.. MJ can't handle a single loss, same with Kobe..

MJ is so damn incredible, that he literally got bored of winning championships and tried to become a professional baseball player, that didn't work out, came back and won more championships.

YALL MUSSA FORGOT.

peace

i'm a heat fan first and foremost, been loving watching the games I catch .. always close games (fortunately & unfortunately) .. they have a fun squad to watch, and can really battle. Record doesn't depict it yet, but to me they are looking like a 7/8 playoff team this year.

i'm not the type of guy to give ppl high praise.... ive trashed mj, lebron , rwestbrook, and harden before.....

But Ben Simmons is the sickest player to come to the scene since...... i dunno lebron?

the only con of his game..... is his lack of wingspan/reach in comparison to his height.... this may be a slight disadvantage to a ball handler because ur hands aren't as low to the ground.....

vegas has a pre season mvp odds bets.... i bet they'll give ben simmons like 200-1 payouts or something sick.... im going to bet it every year and might hit sooner or later

anyone also think that a shorter wingspan/reach can be a slight advantage for shooting?

Bingo! i think you are totally right, but too short of wingspan is also bad.... like jj barea.  that is why KD is so impressive with his accuracy.....

me and u need to discuss bball for real.... i love to chat with sharp bball minds....

haha thanks. yea, off the top of my head, i picture jj barea with pretty short arms. he might be the only NBA player who i have a longer wingspan than. the shortest players that i searched up, kay felder, isaiah thomas, and tyler ulis all have longer wingspans than me by 1 or 2 inches lol (i'm 6 ft wingspan).

yup. and yea IT's wingspan to height ratio is sick, but there's probably plenty of even bigger ratios in the NBA lol. just off the top of my head of players right now, kawhii lenoard. 6'6 without shoes, 7'3 wingspan

australia taking over nba..... simmons, irving both have ties to australia..... both #1 and 2 in the nba imo...... #3 is lebron.....

Long term Simmons has potential and no disrespect to Irving but Lebron is still the king of the league.

total sign of immaturity: afraid to take jump shots is a sign he doesn't want himself to look bad, he wants the world to see how much game he has.....

From what I read yesterday he is completely reworking his jumpshot so I can imagine his reluctance to take them. Really though, he can basically get to the basket at will so what's a year of not taking jump shots.

This. He's afraid to take jump shots because he lacks confidence in his shooting.

this ^^

everyone needs to chill a bit on Simmons lol, he has plenty of time to improve his jumper & get more confidence in it.

even MJ wasn't confident in his jumper year 1.

only person I remember who was confident in literally every aspect of their game in year 1 and got enough minutes/games to be relevant to this discussion, was AI.. not Lebron, Kobe, Shaq, or MJ... just AI. :ninja:

In the words of Brett Brown himself"

"He's really just scratching the surface to what ultimately he is going to be when we start talking about high level of finishing efficiency, growth of a free throw, the rebuilding of his shot, a comfort level of making and shooting an 18-foot jump shot, those things are still on the horizon,” said Brown, a former Spurs assistant who witnessed that program's ability to markedly improve a player's jumpshot.

I think half the problem is he's so ambidextrous and doesn't really know which hand to favour.

My friends and I are all big sixers fans and I think they've hyped him up so much that I had to sort of take an opposing side but honestly I'm not a fan of his superstar potential. I do think he'll be a positive impact player and all star because of his can't miss size, athleticism, and passing ability. Personally I just think the pg should have an alpha like mentality and really be able to dictate a games' tempo and while he's competitive and still rookie, I don't know that'll he be elite in those areas. Maybe its just the recent memory of MCW creating a bias but I'm still not sold on that type of pg but obviously Simmons is bigger, more athletic and more talented.

Also, I'm not sure he'll be able to develop a shot at any point, maybe a running push shot like Brook Lopez perfected with the Nets would expand his game and seems more possible. It definitely makes it hard for him to be effective in the 4th quarter and recently they just go to embiid when defenses lock down.
