i forgot about this vid, this is just insane, i get like 2 inches on my pogo jumps. is that just crazy ankle stiffness and some long ass achilles tendons?
are you supposed to dorsiflex feet when doing the pogo jumps?
how high do you think he's getting on those?

well his long achilles definitely has alot to do with him getting as high as he's getting, but, the stiffness/eccentric RFD is mostly ocurring in the quads/calfs, with less but still significant contribution from the glutes/hams.
if it were a stiff leg ankle hop, then ya, calfs/achilles would contribute even more, because the legs would be locked at impact..
it's pretty much, in this order, for pogo's:
calfs/achilles + quads
glutes
hamstrings
for stiff leg ankle hops it would be:
calfs/achilles
quads
glutes
hamstrings
also contributing is his leanness & mastery of the movement. his arm timing/shoulder power/body position/everything is perfect.

ya, always.. with pretty much every reactive movement you should be dorsiflexing to pre-load the calfs. This also locks the ankle, which means less energy lost to instability/collapsing.
how high do you think he's getting on those? [/quote]
definitely 35 on those.. they are the most impressive pogo's i've seen online.
would love to see more stiff leg ankle hop / pogo vids :)
peace!

confused about the dorsi flexing when doing reactive movements, so basically you dorsiflex till the last moment and then plantar flex hard?

well you can dorsiflex alot sooner than 'last moment', but ya, prior to contact your are pointing your toes up, so once you hit, you get a more intense reflex contraction + more hip extension.
