I'm still in Taiwan so proteins are pretty expensive here once imported... anywhere from 30-50% over the cost in USA. I've looked around in Taiwan a bit and the best deal appears to be Muscle Juice 2600 by Ultimate Nutrition. It costs NT1800 or $58 for the 11.1 lbs package. Any opinions of this protein? In a recent thread in this forum the 2544 is discussed and I guess this is the slightly better version with less fat. ~250g serving gives ~55g of protein. I guess this is more like a high calorie mass gainer and not a lean gainer? All lean gainers proteins are $$$ here. But if I use it as a meal substitute maybe it'll work okay? I'm probably going to get it since it is the best option as far as price is concerned... on Amazon a good seller seems to be the BSN True Mass and I like how that has extra vitamins but the BSN are expensive here. Or... my brother is coming to visit shortly but I dunno if it's wise to ask him to carry 25 lbs of protein in the luggage... heheh. They customs will probably open it and taste it to make sure it isn't cocaine. :-)

So after downing 15 pounds of protein powder in last 2-3 months I have swithced to true protein based on recommendations from this forum. I have tried, Cel whey, ON Gold whey before. True protein came in a plain carton and plain bag with no lables, I ordered 25 pounds! to get the recession wpi/wpc blend, I also ordered two natural flavors, chocolate and vanilla. Total bill was 155 some dollars so the eventual cost is $6.2/lb. Cheapest i could ever find. As for tasted, I don't mind it at all. These days my morning shakes consist of a Egg whites from 2 eggs, 60 g (2 scoops) of whey pp, 2 bananas, a spoon of dried coconut powder, a cup of skim milk. No sugar. I don't even need the flavor. It tastes yummy just like that! I use a mason's jar and a hand mixer that I bought from amazon, it cleans so easy. ( http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CSB-76BC-SmartStick-200-Watt-Immersion/dp/B000EGA6QI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1287254516&sr=8-3) No complaints so far. Thanks for the recommendation LBBS.True protein rocks! Just saw this. Glad to pass on the recommendation. Also, just found out, anyone who wants can use the product code BAN966 at True Protein and get 5% off the cost of the order.

In my country, protein cost twice .. take that... UN whey is around 80-85usd and ON whey is around 90-100 (5 lbs)

they don't have any pure protein supplements? the thing with the mass gainer's is, they are way overpriced, because you get more fillter than actual protein.. you could easily make high calorie shakes for much cheaper overall, if you just had a nice pure whey protein supplement. I'm probably going to get it since it is the best option as far as price is concerned... on Amazon a good seller seems to be the BSN True Mass and I like how that has extra vitamins but the BSN are expensive here. so, i'm done with my first kg of whey isolate. going to order another kg. but this time i'm thinking about also getting a kilo of casein as well to compliment the whey isolate. what do you guys think? the casein protein in taiwan is selling for 780nt (~$25.60) per kg or about $11.6. price seems decent and i only need to buy a kg at a time. the label says per 100g serving it has whopping 97g of protein as well as 1400mg of calcium. with the slower releasing property i guess i'll be taking these at night and the none gym days.

That's interesting. Those "recommended max" estimates tend to be super conservative. If you're worried stay away from EAS and MuscleMilk, but you should be doing that anyway because both of those are a huge ripoff.
FWIW, I get my WPC from TrueProtein, which you mentioned. No sweetener, just vanilla flavoring (you can customize it). Cheap as I've seen (although I haven't checked out CEL) and mixes very well. Might be chock-full of cadmium, for all I know, but it has been highly recommended by people I trust on this kind of thing (see signature). I wouldn't freak out too much.
whats wrong with muscle milk??? :\ not that i use it but was thinking of buying it

I read that it was shown to contain too many heavy metals. I also remember something about some people being allergic, but I might be getting confused about something else.

^^^ What he said. Why would you spend so much money when there's a much, much cheaper option? EDIT: I had forgotten the heavy metals discussion from last summer but went back and looked... I don't remember why I singled those two out but I assume it's because when I looked around they had the highest heavy metal content. Or something like that. But again, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If that's what's standing between you and Muscle Milk, go ahead and flush that money right down the toilet.

my casein came yesterday and i mixed it for the first time tonight. after opening the package i notice how fluffy the casein powder is compare to whey i had a hunch it might mix differently. at first i thought i had some bad product so i googled before drinking it because it looked kinda gross... but apparently that is normal and i will need a blender/mixer for this stuff. well it came out super clunky and i'm freaking chewing tar/cheese right now! at least it is flavorless so it does not taste too nasty. i'm thinking maybe some kinda cheese omelet or with potato might be good... don't think i wanna chew next time. i remember those anti dairy documents calling casein poison because of the fact that it is used as a glue... but stickiness (i guess that's why it digest slow) is just a natural property of it so i'm not really worried. if you think of it in the wrong perspective (like chemical glue) then it does sound nasty as hell. anybody else taking casein currently or before and did you achieve good results from it?

yah i think i'm gonna pick up a lot of chicken breasts and grill or steam them... also organic eggs relatively cheap in taiwan. 100nt or $3 gets me 24-26 of them. and i don't mind eating lot of egg whites. hmm, just did the math and i'm paying 700nt ($27.33) for a kg of whey and that's 800g of protein. the same 700nt would buy me at least 700g of egg white protein (based on 4g per egg white). seems like natural is the way to go for me. non organic eggs are even cheaper 100nt gets over 30 of them. since i'm only gonna go for egg whites they're probably good. the color and texture of the yolk is vastly different. organic yolks are rich, orange and reddish in color, less fluffy when boiled. non organic yolk are light shade of yellow and more dry when boiled.
