Nah, I'm Asian too.

We got some similar physical stats. I have a 7'8" reach too, lol.

You have a lot going for you... esp. AGE.  I honestly wouldn't recommend flight right program.  I think it is garbage... such as "do pushups until exhaustion"

I'd recommend working on core strength as your priority.  I would limit weight training for upper body exercises such as bench.  Get your form down right by just practicing with the bar for squats.  Practice V squats and machine squats to strengthen core.  Do light weight deadlifts and focus on form.  For upper body strength focus on body weight exercises.  Flexibility is crucial to jump training.

My main goal is also to be a better bball player- so focus on court vision ie dribbling with blind fold, dribbling as hard as possible, 2 ball drills.  There lots of resources out there to develop bball skills.  Here is a good site for example: http://www.youtube.com/user/ImPossibleTraining

A lot of bball has to do with reaction time.  After your skills are developed it comes down to your brain's reactive abilities.  So practice with tennis balls, play with good competition but don't over do it by running only full court games, it can actually be detrimental.

Also getting base of palm at a 10' rim is about 10'7'' touch ( +-1 ) which means your vert is not 31'' as you think but about 35''

Why is this called "asian try to dunk"

People need to stop acting like being Asian is an athletic disadvantage and looking for sympathetic points...  I don't see other journals on here titled, "Black guy trying to dunk" or "white man looking for 40+ inch vert" or anything...

Are you Asian?

Also Vag there's no way he has a 35 inch vertical in that pic when he says he can only dunk a tennis ball with a 7'8 reach. Before i started vert training I was dunking a tennis ball with a 7'10 reach and my vert was only 28 back than.

"Best advice I can give, though it will sound like a broken record, is to squat, squat, squat and heavy if you want to improve your sprint times.
One of my favorite anecdotes related to this is from "Romo" (Bill Romanowski's autobiography). He talks about when he first started working with Remy Korchemny on speed work and Remy asked him if he was squatting.
Romo (to my surprise) said he wasn't and was only doing leg presses for lower body work.So Remy tells Romo to start squatting and after awhile, excited with his progress, Romo comes back to Remy and tells him he can squat 400. Remy answers, "Good. Now you can squat as much as my women sprinters."
Granted most of Korchemny's athletes were juiced to the gills - he was one of the guys taken down with the BALCO bust - but I think there's something to be learned there, nonetheless."

Yes, I am Asian.  I may have come off wrong, but I just hate it when Asians, buy into the stereotypes and lessen themselves like that.  I for one play basketball with plenty of athletic freaks who are Asians, so I may be biased.

Yeh best way to deal with stereotypes is to break them. If people impose mental limitations on themselves and have laid back attitudes towards their performance than it just makes reaching their goals harder. E.g if they're relatively content with their performance their not going to improve as quickly as if they'd have a burning desire to improve it. Same as if somebody is a big fish in a small pond than their not going to progress their game as much as they could because they're playing against people that aren't going to help them rise to the next level.
That's probably why there generally seems to be a lot of athletes who are younger siblings in their families. I remember watching Tyson Gay on youtube and he talked about his motivation stemming from his pursuit to be able to beat his older sister in sprinting because she was faster than him. Same as Marion Jones used to race against boys growing up and many top female basketball players spent a lot of time playing with, and against, boys while growing up.
Check this out about previous 100m World Record holders.
From the book The Talent Code, pages 115 and 116 :

Usain Bolt: 2nd of 3 children
 Asafa Powell: 6th of 6
 Justin Gatlin: 4th of 4
 Maurice Green: 4th of 4
 Donovan Bailey: 3rd of 3
 Leroy Burrell: 4th of 5
 Carl Lewis: 3rd of 4
 Leroy Burrell: 4th of 5
 Carl Lewis: 3rd of 4
 Calvin Smith: 6th of 8

the title is very asian too, and thread is very asian.  i agree though it is a self perpetuating cycle to buy into stereotypes.

D4: dunking a tennis ball requires at least 3-4" of rim clearance, that is, a 123" touch at the absolute lowest. if your reach is 94" and you could dunk a tennis ball when you started training, there is no way you were jumping under 29".

EDIT: or there's no way your reach is 7'10". it's science.

It's as simple as that , if that rim is 10'' and his reach is 7'8'', that jump is 35-ish.

As for the dunks , there are some good 3-4 inches ( for me its 5'' but oh well ) between dunking a tennisball and a basketball. He can't dunk a bball but that doesnt mean he barely dunks a tennisball , he may be jumping 4'' more than he needs to dunk a tennisball but still they are not enough for a bball dunk.
