Yeah that's what I was looking at - the elbows.

It's weird though that you have to relax the arms/elbows and then suddenly stiffen them for the catch... takes time...

I might very well be wrong here, but with those squats, isn't he breaking at the knees before the hips? I have (well, had) an almost identical looking squat and it put a ton of pressure on the knees. My understanding of the squat is you should sit back, dropping your ass first and keeping your knees in a more or less fixed position.
