Well got bad news today about my hip/lowerback. Had a different osteopathic doctor this time and after doing manipulations on my hip and still feeling pain in the area when doing the delivery motion, he thinks there is a chance of an avulsion fracture in the hip bone. Its worst case scenario, but we're gonna treat it as such and that means nothing physical other than biking for the next 4 weeks. Hopefully towards the end I'll be able to start adding in core work and bodyweight squats. Super disheartening after all the work I put in this fall, but I'll at least be ready for the end of indoor and outdoor season if that is all this is. Gonna try and get x-rays and/or an MRI to show that is what it is or discover there is a bigger issue.

shit man, that blows. obviously makes sense to get some imaging done after a diagnosis like that.  Lips Sealed

Yeah thanks guys. Its definitely tough and I wish we could have diagnosed it earlier and saved me a shit load of time and wasted energy this fall with the lifting as this is going to put me back another 2 months worth of lifting and throwing. I'm hoping that it hasn't been healing on and off and causing large bone growths that are gonna have to get surgically removed, but I won't know until we get imaging done.

Its kind of ironic because I said during monday's practice that I kinda hoped that everything would just snap down there so that I knew I had to rest, not knowing what was really causing the pain, and come to find out, something most likely has.

Well its only been a few days and I'm already going insane from not being able to do anything. It has been nice to live the life of a normal college student for once...hehe...but I can't wait for this to be healed up. The pain hasn't really improved with the rest which seems to give more credence to the idea that it is an avulsion fracture. Oh well gonna keep up with the hip mobility work and hopefully I'll be given the green light to start cardio on the bike as well as some upperbody lifts on tuesday.

Saw the trainer today. We did ice and stim followed by heat and some ultrasound work on the area. Didn't seem to do too much for the immediate area, but it did help loosen up surrounding muscle tissue. Doing the same thing the rest of the week and see how it helps/hurts. Forgot to ask if I could do upperbody workout stuff today, so I'll ask tomorrow.

i know the feeling. i'd been having toe pain for a couple of years before i finally went to see a podiatrist and an orthopedist for x-rays. it was a bit of a relief to get confirmation that no, i'm not just being a pansy: there's actually something really wrong down there.

Not too much to report. Had another appointment with an osteopathic doctor who did some SI joint manipulation which got rid of some of the other discomfort that I've had in the area but the main hip pain still remained whenever I did the 3 movements where its always hurt. That was thursday, it feels a little bit better today although I still get a sharp pain doing those movements. Not quite the getting stabbed by a big knife like it used to be.

Did some pushups and stretching of the upperbody tonight just because I'm getting soo bored not doing anything and they didn't seem to put much pressure on the hip or cause any discomfort during or after. Gonna talk to the trainer about getting an MRI this week since none of the treatment work has really helped to alleviate the issue. Hoping it will show that its either a ruptured tendon down there, or that I have a bad case of Piriformis syndrome and that is causing the pain I feel when it gets stretched over the Sciatic nerve.

Got more stim and ultrasound treatment today. Felt much better after although there is still slight pain in the region. Talked to my trainer and he said that I should be fine to start doing upperbody work where I'm not loading up the spine/hip region in extension or flexion. So no rows or pressing quite yet. However I'm going to start doing pull-ups, push-ups and direct shoulder work as well as arm work to keep me busy and moving forward in some direction.

Today's Workout:

Y,T,W's: 3 sets of 10 reps per exercise-5lber's, 5lber's, 5lber's
Pull-Ups: 6,4,3,3,3,4,4
Lat Pull-Downs: 50lbsx20
Barbell Curls: barx12, 65lbsx8, 75lbsx6

The upperbody workout today went pretty well. Y,T,W's were pretty tough on an incline bench today. Probably because I couldn't use any momentum whatsoever. With pull-ups, I'm not exactly sure how the reps went after the 3rd set but I think it was something like I posted above. I did a burner set of lat pull-downs to really get a pump in the lats. I ended with barbell curls, but my arms were pretty fried at that point so the volume isn't where I'd have liked it to be. Overall I felt kinda weak today, but I'm just happy to be doing some form of training again. I'm hoping I'll be able to get at least a few good throws in come the end of the indoor season.

Early Week Training:

Push-Ups: 12,12,12,10,10 (done sunday)
Hip Thrusts: 8,8 (5 sec hold at top done sunday)
Lateral Raises: 10'sx15, 12'sx15,15, 20'sx8
Rear Delt Flyes on incline Bench: 8'sx15,15,15,15
Seated DB Curls: 20'sx15,15,15 per arm
Tricep Pushdowns: 50lbsx8, 70lbsx8
Cable Bar Curls: 20lbsx10, 40lbsx10

Pretty good workout on monday. Did the push-ups sunday night along with some hip thrusts. Shoulder and arm work went well and got a super pump in the arms and shoulders. Rear Delt flyes are sooo much harder on the incline bench then just being bent over.

Hip pain has been non-existent some days, other days i wake up and it hurts like a mofo. This morning was one of those days and I feel like crap too. Dizzy and running a slight fever (I think this happened to me around the same time last year). More upperbody work tomorrow and probably doing some turns at full speed with just a chair or broom stick tomorrow.

After getting some treatment, I finally took some full speed turns in throwing shoes for the first time in 3 weeks. I did a lot with a chair and for the most part they didn't seem to bother the injured area of my hip. However the area around my IT band hurt when I did turns, but not enough to make me worry about it getting really hurt, yet. I think its just because my QL is tight from having to stabilize my spine while sitting to compensate for the weakening of my spinal erectors. I also did some of my lifting today:

Y,T,W's: 5'sx10per,10per,10per
Pull-Ups: 6,4,3,2,2,4,3,3 (I think)

My arms still didn't seem fully recovered so I'm leaving that part of my lifting until tomorrow. Pull-up strength sucked today for whatever reason. I think it was probably due to rest times that were too short. Depending on how my hip feels in the morning, I may do more turns with the chair tomorrow along with the arm work. Maybe some medball throws too.

Well I let the hip rest the whole weekend except for when I went to shovel off the circle yesterday in preparation for the awesome weather today. Instead of shoveling, what i really ended up doing was chipping an inch and a half of solid ice with a cruddy shovel for over and hour and a half. I got most of the circle cleared and left knowing the warm weather today would make the rest much easier.

Weather today was phenomenal. Sunny, no clouds and about 40 degrees although it felt like 60 degrees with the reflection from the ice/snow on the field. I finished clearing the circle off and went to open the cage gates and it turned out that they had sunk in the muck in the fall and had been frozen in. So I spent another half an hour chipping away the ice so I could get them open. Once I finally got them open I did some bodyweight squats to warm the legs up and then grabbed an old 6k hammer that it wouldn't matter if the swivel got thrashed from landing on the ice in the field.

Well it was just my luck that on the first full throw with it, I got it stuck up at the very top of the right cage gate. So I tried to get it down for awhile and then decided to grab another hammer rather than waste the weather. So I grabbed an old 5k (turned out to be 10lbs, I think we lost the 5k and it suddenly was replaced with the 10lb) and immediately I was throwing well. My focus was on sitting back on my start and on driving the right hip and foot around in the turns and the finish to help minimize stress on my left hip. It definitely worked as the only severe hip pain I felt was when I'd slip a little on the ice retrieving the hammer. The session lasted around 2 hours and I got in over 25 throws. I was consistently around 60-63m with one that was closer to 64m the entire session. I couldn't stop throwing because it felt soo good. Iced the hip after and then did 5 sets of 10 pushups and 3 sets of glute bridges to help my hip alignment. So happy to finally be throwing again without severe pain and I'm excited to get back to full on training everyday in a few weeks after indoor season is done.

Threw the 35lb weight on wednesday and it didn't go great, mostly because my body was sooo sore from throwing monday. I haven't had DOMS like that from throwing ever. My hip seemed to hold up fine then while throwing too. However when I threw a tire instead of the weight yesterday, my hip bothered me quite I bit. I can feel that my left QL is really tight and I think it is the culprit for the pain in my hip and the misalignment. So doing lots of soft tissue work today and tomorrow morning on the area to try and loosen it up because I am competing for the first time since the beginning of December tomorrow  headbang. I'd like to improve upon my mark from the first meet to get me into the 2nd flight so I don't have to re-warm up if I make finals at conferences. However, I'm not expecting too much although I know its there. Possibly throwing some hammer today as well. Depends on how the heating and soft tissue work goes.
