Sorry if I missed this before, but why are you switching to an RL plant? I'm curious because the thought had occurred to me that I should do that, too. Or at least try to get better at it.

Without the ball I jump exactly the same LR or RL while never practicing RL and being quite abit less efficient because of it. Since my right leg is stronger I can use a faster approach without collapsing.

And the final reason, I think RL dunks for a right hander look much smoother/better in general.

Its been on my mind for almost 2 years now, and since I wont be jumping for another 2 months I thought should make the switch this year and see what happens. Worst case scenario is that Ill be jumping exactly the same but with a plant I like better.


If I remember correctly you said that your rl is quite abit worse. If thats the case making the switch most likely wouldnt be worth the effort.

Its about what you want. I'm a right hander, yet i've always been jumping off a L-R plant. I'm as good a 1-leg jumper, off my left that is. And even though it might feel better to dunk with the right of a R-L plant, i fixed the problem, now i dunk with my left hand off two. Sick.

Makes sense. I have the same issue as you, in that my right leg is much stronger and everything else all seems to indicate that I should plant RL. But I plant LR.

I honestly have no idea whether I could jump higher RL, the movement is so awkward/unnatural-feeling that I just never do it. But it might be worth trying some drills like the ones you're doing, to see what happens when RL gets grooved a little bit. Who knows, maybe I'd end up jumping higher? At the very worst it might help to just counterbalance the regular LR planting.
