To me, you look like:

1) You should practice jumping more, you're probably losing some power to get up and instead go forwards

and

2) You're actually a weird case as in I rarely see/say this, but you spend too little time on the ground. It looks like you don't give yourself enough time to load properly (to put more force into the ground). The mini-jump plant is also very short and all this gives me the impression of too less of a load in terms of voluntary power. Try to load a bit more when you jump and see what happens.

It's also probably a matter of catching the ball. You kind of hold back a bit to syncronize with the ball and not jump at absolute max intensity in my opinion.

whatsup man! from what i see, you're actually jumping pretty good.. your runup is a good acceleration, it's fast, powerful.. your plant may be a problem, as you land very squared to the basket.

would it be possible to get any vid of your half/deep squat? i'm curious to see why you're not utilizing that power fully.. well, i shouldn't say that yet, what's your bodyweight? you don't look too heavy..

edit: this first pic is a mis-post, wrong thread, meant for lol thread, but im leaving it because i find it funny i posted it in here.. lolol

the depth of your plant and your runup aren't really an issue in my opinion.. here's a few videos, you have the runup speed more closely to darlington or ea33.. the only issue, if any, would be that you seem to land both feet at the same time, instead of a right foot first then left foot first type of plant, as well as not 'rotating' into the jump.. notice darlington's jumps, every time he plants he's turning away from the basket.. you jump more like ea33, very squared, but he still has a more noticeable first step into the plant, then second step.. so that could be an issue.

other than that, the jumps actually look good.. to me it looks more like a power issue and possibly not 'turning into the jump more', but that's about it..

what's your routine like? how much reactive work ("plyos") do you do?

justin darlington:

ea33:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgk6QKtk9EU

with double leg jumping, it's usually a power issue, rarely a form issue.. there's just way too much variety in double leg jumping for their to be a "standard".

peace man

@ adarqui

great post man a lot of info in there!
never noticed the rotation good jumpers have in their plant.. great point im gonna work on that a little bit.
im going on a 10 day trip on monday so i dont think that ill be able to videotape my squats before i come back. but ill make sure to hook you up with some footage of my squats.
my weight is something between 170 and 176 lbs (depends on the day)

i dont do any reactive work at the moment. just squats, power cleans and lunges.
i used to do a lot of plyos 2-3 years ago and did some during this years month of june, but like i said. i dont do them anymore.

funny ass picture by the way headbang

@ raptor
i tried to load my jumps a little more, but so far it just feels weird because im not used to it, so i'm not really getting up that high yet. but ill keep workin on it and ill keep you posted

peace

Hey man, saw your first post in the welcome thread but I jumped straight to your journal instead of posting there, so welcome aboard.

You're gettin' up pretty good in those videos. I agree with Adarq that you don't seem to rotate much in your jump. But that's not exactly vital to dunking either but it could definitely help.

I don't know if it's just me or not, but it didn't seem to me like you use your arms much during your jump. You swing them; but you do it so fast that it didn't to me like it helped much. I'm not a pro jumper or anything, but I do know that when it comes to 2 footed jumping, your arms can definitely help your technique and height.

Either way, good job.

p.s. In regards to your signature's goal sets: 50 free throws in a row? C'mon, do it! Free throws are about concentration and repetition. Gotta get that one done! Smiley
