Me, I have to use both my hands to pull ups, if my one of my hands is loose I lose balance, so when I do one handed pull ups I place one hand on the bar and the other hand grabbing the wrist of the holding hand and that is easier but can do 1-2.

You should be somewhat capable of the list below to attempt OAC
1. 20 strict pull ups..
2. 5x5 pull ups with 50% of your BW
3. 1 rep max with 80% of BW

I wonder what it says about someone who is just too scared/cautious to even try a one arm chinup .. Probably that they listen to their body pretty well. Just thinking about it, makes me "inhibited", I can feel the shutdown by just contemplating the effort, mostly in my biceps. I think that's interesting.

Late to the party but I'm in for this challenge. There are pretty clear cut progressions out there for this. Committing the time is the only issue.
Do I get points for not having done a chin up for 3 months? :trolldance:

LOL, let's all get in, it doesn't seem feasible at all anyway. I was extremely happy to get a 4th rep @15kg the other day, according to the recommendation above I gotta get to 5x5@40kg and be able to do 1 rep @65kg before attempting it. Just typing those numbers discourages me. But im still in hahaha :highfive:

i was serious at one point to get a clean OAC. got as heavy as 3x45lb on weighted chins.
the problem with my bw OAC is the pendulum effect that my lowerbody adds. i can pull myself up with one arm but eventually i will rotate and not have enough strength to counter that.
i gave up. legs too heavy. :P

what's wrong with rotating? everyone rotates on OAC.

Is anyone doing any hanging in preparation for the OAC? From what I've heard recently building up to some serious time per arm can make a huge difference.

I feel too far away from it now to even think of actually preparing for it. The threshold I've put of actually thinking it is possible ( so starting to think what i can do to get it ) is achieving 5 reps @ 30kg / 15 reps @ BW. For now it is just progressively overloading the weighted chins/pulls.
Hanging makes sense though. I remember Kellyb once put an article up about ISOs being his favorite RFD tool ( dafuq??? ) Edit : here it is http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/isosforrelativestrength.html

I would suggest putting some time into the preparatory work for it. If you get to +30 or more for 5 and don't have adequate scap stability or strength then it could take you a lot longer. Also I remember when I was hanging regularly and built up to a few sets of 1min plus my shoulders never felt better.

Ill keep that in mind. Also, just thought of that, how about assisted OACs on that 'assisted pull ups machine'? Not sure it will be totally useful because of the very different mechanics/contributors ( mainly because of the rotation ) of the actual OAC. But it seems like a good way to progressively overload one hand vertical pulling?

i might actually try it when i get my leanest.. feels more possible mentally, the lighter i get. My potential cheat code.. :D
i'll probably beat everyone to it, just because of the crazy light/lean cheat code.. lmfao.
seems scary to try it, but less scary today (as opposed to months prior, or last year etc).. relative strength confidence.

From what I've seen it's archers and pulley assisted and negatives are the way to go but the assisted machine might be a good option. At least it's easily measurable.

the only person i know personally who could do it argued against the assisted chin up machine because in the real OAC your body twists. training with fixed knees doesn't help your body learn the movement at all.
