Long time Lurker, first time caller

Hi All,

Been Lurking since the days of terminal vertical to TVS,  I have been impressed with Andrews insights so here I am to finally legitimize my internet existance.

Training for vertical and better sports performance. Started training in 2007 to dunk a basketball, went from 23" to around a 31" vertical in the first few years and have been hard pressed to make further gains after that.

Current stats:
31 years
5'10"
7'6" reach
184 pounds
275# back squat
340# deadlift
145# power clean

Still a long way from that first dunk, but finally ready to commit to getting to that next level of performance.

Thanks to everyone for the motivation over the years!

how much has your strength progressed SINCE those first few years of gains? how much did it progress in those first few years? interested to know how that progression has turned out. It seems like you could definitely benefit from some large gains in squat strength, given your bodyweight/power clean.

awesome though man, welcome to the forum and go get that shit.. hope to see some big new PR's from you in the near future.

peace man

You might have stalled at a quality or two... we need more info about your abilities to know if that happens... like your elasticity, what kind of jumper you are, if you're more of a power jumper or elastic (if you gain a lot of inches on your VJ from a running start vs. a standing vert jump), what kind of plyos did you do - if any etc.

My strength has progressed minimumly since about summer 2009. Due to job/family issues I was not able to lift like I needed to to make gains. I have been basically maintaining since that point.
I started June 2007 training a raw beginer. reping 95# atg squat, 115# deadlift. In two years my 1RM was up to 275# atg squat, 340# deadlift and 145# clean @ 170# BW. My vertical was up to a best of 28-29" SVJ and 31-32" RVJ.
I am sure I still have some big gains to be made in limit strength.

I am currently a 2 footed power jumper and have always seen about 3"s between my SVJ and RVJ.
I have done mostly all of the VJB, including plyos and have made most of my gains off stength.
When I was 16 years old I could jump quite well off one foot (low 30' RVJ), then I broke my ankle in multiple places playing b-ball. I was never able to jump off one foot again. At that time I was light and weak with a pure plyometric jump. Since then I seem to have little plyometic ability, but have felt with the proper training I may be able to once again tap that well?

Thanks for the responses, I am starting a training log and would appreciate everyones input as I feel I have made it as far as I am going to on my own.
