nice stuff

"Your body is in the same spot all the time," McGregor said. "What happens is people jump out of bed, brush their teeth, stuff their faces with food, make their way to the gym, barely warm up, do 10 rounds, go home, rest, eat, go back to the gym. You can just feel that body locking. I'm waking up and the first thing I'm doing now is spinal waves. I can actually hear it. ... It's like you're loosening the cobwebs. And it's been paying off for me."

conor is in a great rhythm right now.

I'm digging this thread man. I've been doing some yoga movements to open up my body and really get my hips mobile for soccer but this seems a lot more effective in doing that.

Any links to simple progressions? I would def work this stuff on recovery days/ use as a warmup. You  can just see the relationship he has with his body by the way he moves and even stands. Awesome athlete

nice!

I love how McGregor is obsessed with MOVEMENT. It's not something you see much of in fight sports.

ya. looks more effective but i'm no yoga expert. just so much more you can do with "movement training". also makes use of alot more "dynamic" movements instead of static holds.

McGregor's prediction for the Aldo fight:

"I felt when we stared down, I felt his right hand was twitching, which was a subtle tell for me. He is ready to unload that right hand and I feel that will be a downfall for him. if he lets that right hand go, I will not be there. I simply enter the way I enter, and that is enough, they either overextend or they shrink away, but either way it is not good for them. I will create traps and dead-space inside that octagon and i will walk him into that dead space, but all of a sudden he will be in danger. We will collide in the middle of the octagon and José will fall on the first exchange" - Conor McGregor

spot on..

Ido Portal was asked by Ariel Helwani after Aldo fight what room for improvement remained for Conor regarding movement and he replied that Conor recognizes he's just a white belt but everyone else has yet to take their first class.

I read a comment on r/mma that said what makes Ido special and different from gymnastics coaches is that he focuses on teaching adults as opposed to gymnastics where they start kids from very early and don't have to overcome a lot of challenges with adults getting into the game. It's a whole order of magnitude in difficulty.

He was a capoeira instructor, then just wanted to branch out into other things and realized capoeira couldn't contain all these general movement ideas.

his confidence & skill. he's an elite striker for mma, excellent timing/counters/aggression. he's basically predicted exactly how his past ~5-6 fights would end (to the round and how they will be defeated). He's just an animal. He's also attempting something you see in boxing, dominate a division and then move up in weight, attempt to dominate a new division. He's talking about owning 155 then moving up to 170. it's crazy.. you don't see that in mma.

well the RDS (rafael dos santos) fight is intriguing. I am pretty excited about that fight. Conor is coming up from his 145 title, to 155.. no preparation fights. He's just going straight for the title at 155. That's ridiculous; and another reason why people love him. I'd just like to see him continue what he's doing; dominating a division then moving up in weight. If he's able to win 155, then maybe 170, and perhaps 185.. that'd be one of the craziest accomplishments in MMA history. That's what he wants to try and do soo.. real excited about Conor, he's a beast.

well, this thread may come to an end earlier than expected..

conor is retiring?

if you retire after watching a fighter die in the ring, I don't expect you come back from that.. that basically means you've just had all of the fight shaken out of you.

conor posted on FB:

Quote
I am just trying to do my job and fight here.
I am paid to fight. I am not yet paid to promote.
I have become lost in the game of promotion and forgot about the art of fighting.
There comes a time when you need to stop handing out flyers and get back to the damn shop.
50 world tours, 200 press conferences, 1 million interviews, 2 million photo shoots, and at the end of it all I'm left looking down the barrel of a lens, staring defeat in the face, thinking of nothing but my incorrect fight preparation. And the many distractions that led to this.
Nothing else was going through my mind.
It is time to go back and live the life that got me this life.
Sitting in a car on the way to some dump in Conneticut or somewhere, to speak to Tim and Suzie on the nobody gives a fuck morning show did not get me this life.
Talking to some lady that deep down doesn't give a fuck about what I'm doing, but just wants some sound bites so she can maybe get her little tight ass a nice raise, and I'm cool with that too, I've been giving you all raises. But I need to focus on me now.
I'm coming for my revenge here.
I flew an entire team to Portugal and to Iceland to make my adjustments in preparation and fix my errors I made with the weight and the cardio prep.
With the right adjustments and the right focus, I will finish what I started in that last fight.
I will not do this if I am back on the road handing out flyers again.
I will always play the game and play it better than anybody, but just for this one, where I am coming off a loss, I asked for some leeway where I can just train and focus. I did not shut down all media requests. I simply wanted a slight adjustment.
But it was denied.
There had been 10 million dollars allocated for the promotion of this event is what they told me.
So as a gesture of good will, I went and not only saved that 10 million dollars in promotion money, I then went and tripled it for them.
And all with one tweet.
Keep that 10 mill to promote the other bums that need it. My shows are good.
I must isolate myself now.
I am facing a taller, longer and heavier man. I need to prepare correctly this time.
I can not dance for you this time.
It is time for the other monkeys to dance. I've danced us all the way here.
Nate's little mush head looks good up on that stage these days. Stuff him in front of the camera for it.
He came in with no shit to do that last one. I'd already done press conferences, interviews and shot the ads before RDA pulled out.
Maybe I'll hit Cabo this time and skull some shots pre-fight with no obligation.
I'm doing what I need for me now.
It is time to be selfish with my training again. It is the only way.
I feel the $400million I have generated for the company in my last three events, all inside 8 months, is enough to get me this slight leeway.
I am still ready to go for UFC 200.
I will offer, like I already did, to fly to New York for the big press conference that was scheduled, and then I will go back into training. With no distractions.
If this is not enough or they feel I have not deserved to sit this promotion run out this one time, well then I don't know what to say.
For the record also -
For USADA and for the UFC and my contract stipulations -
I AM NOT RETIRED.

daamn.

not sure.. mma is a different animal so, one loss doesn't ruin your "GOAT STATUS" .. not saying he's goat status, but he was trying to get there by moving up several divisions etc.

for him to go up from competing at 145 to 170 is just insane.. so i think that his rematch win should make people forget about his first loss @ 170.

dno though.. i imagine he's going back down to 145 HEH!! unless they make a big money third match.

i heard he gassed out of nowhere? didn't see the entire fight.

Same, I didnt see the entire fight too. But it looks like it from the highlight I watched. he also mentioned in the post presser that during the fight he had kicked diaz's knees alot of times, it took an effect on his shin, he came to the post presser limping lol.

he should be careful else he could 'anderson silva' his shin, meaning like anderson broke his shin kicking the knee of his opponents.  :P
