Title: New hosting
Post by: adarqui on June 26, 2014, 01:16:26 am
Ok so again, more down time... Basically, the server adarq.org was previously hosted on was wrecked. Not only that server, but the hosting itself. They had some serious OpenVZ issues which were wreaking havoc.. That's also why we had a ~day of data loss; last night's backups were corrupted.

So that's the bad news.. The good news is I purchased some legit hosting. This box is 10x faster than the previous one. It's also on SSD.

The SMF forum software we were using was incredibly old. I couldn't get it to install on these new 14.04 LTS ubuntu containers etc. So I did a pseudo upgrade - that's what you're seeing. This is the basic SMF theme.

As for programming, if any of you want to do some coding on here, i'm going to be setting up a little lab environment. We're going to have a dedicated lab environment. I'll be working on the new forum prototypes on here too etc. I'll create sub domain urls so we can test them out live with our current data, ie: yesod.adarq.org will be the first one.

If the forum is wrekt please let me know.. need to bring a few things back, such as pretty urls.

peace folks.

Sounds cool.
It'll be good to have a fast and reliable server.

Thanks for keeping this site up and running and maintaining it!

ya.. its actually quite decent. The default smf theme is solid.

Did our first full 'nightly' sql backup tonight.. Backing up the SQL db (105M) used to take like 15+ minutes (i think it was more like 30) on the other server. It takes 2 seconds on this one.

 :ibsquatting:

Need to add slave replication too, through an ssh tunnel from my personal laptop... lul.

;f

So ya, the backup thing is great.. I think raptor was the one who said the site would get extremely slow at certain times. That was the mysql backup running. It would render the site useless for ~15minutes or more.

peace!

Just copied over the current forum to a test directory, in hopes of working on goodpost/badpost tonight.. So ya, just letting you all know I definitely plan to get it back on the forum. I miss it.

I added a new vhost etc, .. If you guy's notice any weird problems let me know. Working in that other directory shouldn't interfere with the forum.

R.I.P good post bad post.

We've actually done this before........... I never learn when it comes to bear/bare. I guess i'm afraid of typing 'bear' due to the terrible history of 'bear' on irc. Btw..... I'm going to downvote you :D

edit: Shit it didn't work.

Anyone experiencing a 'session timeout while posting' error? Or is it just me?

If so, that's probably from me adding GPBP back in (which doesn't work yet).

 :almostascoolasnyancat:

Cleaned out 10k+ users with no posts (lots of bots).. That stats thing at the bottom of the page is misleading, need to know where it's getting that incorrect result. It's almost as if it's using the next available id to get the total members on the forum. We have ~380 now instead of ~11k.

For example here, it says "Re: New hosting" in each post's title, with the 0 and downarrow uparrow overlapping the "Re:".

Sounds annoying but, have you retried clearing cache etc and refreshing? Maybe you hit the page when I had it actually doing that.. It had some css class on some div, which I had to comment.. Perhaps your browser is still using that incorrect css class.

Weird, I have the youtube button. Maybe it's a cache issue like raptor had. I have the youtube button right under .

pc man

it's right under the bold button for me.

Nop, won't appear. Cleared cache twice, tried from private window, nothing. Firefox 30.0 @ Win 8.1

yt button is right there on android default browser though, lol.

EDIT 1 : at the same PC, it appears as expected using IE. So now it looks like a firefox cache thing. Gonna check firefox on different PC and update.

EDIT 2 : Firefox 30.0 @ Win Vista HP SP2 fine too, so definitely a local thing.

Issue reminder :
The old data is still missing.

New bug:
The ''Users online" report at the end of main screen has changed, it now shows users active in the last 15 mins, and it doesn't work either, it looks like it shows only logged in users. It used to show active users the past 24hrs in chronological order too, i liked that feature.

New feature:
This is generic, not even sure if its doable but it would be awesome, for all forums:
When using the 'unread posts', i would like the available link not to be to the latest post of the unread topic, but at the first unread post of the topic. Now if there have been more than one posts I gotta scroll up and possibly go some pages back to catch up.
