i searched for bcaa in this forum and resulted in only 2 posts in 1 thread...  is anyone taking this?  searching for a bit i found a supplier of soy protein isolate in Taiwan that sells 1kg (2.2 lbs) for 480NT or ~$15.50.  seems like a pretty good deal.  :-)  they recommended taking bcaa with protein.  read about bcaa a little bit and seems to be very good for increasing aerobic and anaerobic capacities.  500g cost $40.  hmm!
current stats: age: 42 :: 5'11" (180cm) :: 180lbs (82kg) bf ~30% :: reach: 90" or 7'6" (230cm) :: wing span: 6" (183cm)
12 week goal(current): SQ 115kg(100), DL 130kg(110), BP 80kg(70), reduce weight to 75kg (165 lbs) and bf to ~25%
status: excellent cardio condition, new 5x5 program, 10' rim touch okay, RVJ ~30"
PR RVJ ~34" 10'5" touch @ age ~25 (worst was ~6" below rim when i was @ 190 lbs ~35% body fat ~23" RVJ in 2007-8

1. avoid soy protein
2. You get enough bcaa's in your diet from protein. I really don't feel you need free form bcaa's for recovery.

what are the cons of soy protein?  what do u recommend then?  based on this article i don't see any real cons of soy for my application...

whey isolate then?  hmm, i dunno about all that soy protein & breast cancer relation.  Asians eat a ton of soy products and breast cancer rate is FAR lower than people with typical Western diet.

right but thyroid cancer's are apparently much higher in china, which has been linked to soy..

i'm pretty sure it's good but i'm also pretty sure it's a waste of your money...you should be getting plenty of essential and none essential amino acids through a good high protein diet...basically BCAA aren't really necessary

correct me if i'm wrong....adarq? JC? you guys seem to know your stuff

yeah but the point is you don't need to waste your money on BCAA's when you could be trying to just get more protein in more often...but if the money isn't an issue and it's convenient then why not right? or you could take glutamine kind of the same idea

  Its fine but getting them via whey protein is probably a better idea than the capsules.  If you look at the amino content of most the pills you would have to take a massive amount to equal the content in a typical 2 scoops of whey protein shake.  Most people dont get anywhere close to the protein content they need for growth in their normal diet without supplementation, whey is going to be the most logical solution and is more of a staple than a supplement for athletes imo.

Well there are different content qualities at times and also taste differences, but in most cases I would say no.  there used to be a website up from a neutral party that tested the actual content of different supplements and companies and reported the testing results on the site, I may see if I can find it.  Last I remember Beverly was at the top of line in quality content on most of their products, but the 2nd and 3rd werent very far behind.

well, it was not a supplement manufacturing company, it was a company paid to test others products and report to them the findings.  The problem with that is many of the supplement companies who had their products tested but didnt get the legitimacy turnout they hoped own the test results so they dont have to allow them to report them.   

this is not the same site but one that is along the same lines, same issues though, if a supplement shows to not contain what it says, the product manufacturer owns the rights to the report and can have it taken down from the site.
