Title: Dextrose - Mixed with whey for post workout
Post by: seifullaah73 on September 13, 2012, 06:03:07 pm
Hi

I was given the instructions on taking post workout supplements, which included 0.8 x BW(Kg) of whey protein + 0.2 X BW (KG) dextrose. Then mix 5g in loading phase and 2g in maintenance phase with the whey mixtures.

First question: Is dextrose good or a waste of money and i should use any sugar or forget about adding it.

Second: Is the above formula a good guideline to use?

Would it be better to take it before workout or after workout.

Thanks

yes, it is a waste of money. use any sugar. i prefer chocolate syrup. cheap and delicious.

way too goddamn complicated. if you can follow that scheme, knock yourself out. it barely matters until you've reached a certain level of performance and control. i generally like to drink a protein shake post workout, or sometimes start it during the workout but after i'm finished with anything explosive or (mostly) aerobic. too much jostling. but that's just personal preference.

So just follow the instruction written on the back of the whey protein and 5g of creatine.

Thanks for the help.

You don't really need carbs in the postworkout, although it will make it taste better. The logic behind using carbs is to either spike insulin or refill glycogen stores. For one, protein spikes insulin on its own, and you don't even need to do that anyway. For the glycogen stores, unless you're on some kind of low carb diet, you'll refill them throughout the day so there's no reason to do it post workout.

honestly even drinking whey post workout barely has benefits as opposed to just getting in enough protein throughout the day anyway. whey digests fast... on an empty stomach. If you're trying to build muscle and you're on an empty stomach, you're doing it wrong! So don't worry so much about post workout shakes, worry more about overall consumption of protein  ;)

I don't understand what's wrong now.

Is the problem me taking sugar; this you are referring to carbs with whey

or taking whey as a post workout, that is should be taken before workout.

thanks

What i was saying was is the problem me taking the sugar or taking the whey as post workout.

But you have clarified it better to take whey and creatine shake post workout and forget the dextrose just add sugar.

Bit confused what situation was referring.

Because i am a hard gainer and can't get near enough to more than 3 meals a day and have never taken a protein shake have started as my protein in take a day is not high enough.

as i am doing hypertrophy, i will be eating 3 meals a day and eating hand full of nuts in between and i will drink milk or milkshake before i start a workout, maybe.

I won't be taking whey on an empty stomach.

In that case don't worry about when you take your whey. Doesn't matter if it's pre or post workout tbh. Just focus on getting enough protein for the day and you will be fine  :strong:

Just a set of last few questions, as the time is getting close, i want to be prepared and am quite nervous.

1. On the back of the whey protein is said to mix crushed ice, is this necessary, or can you leave out ice.

2. Is it ok to add whey and creatine in the blender if so is it ok to add egg.

3. Is 1 scoop of whey protein powder enough, what does it depend on?

4 I also heard people putting alot of crazy stuff into the shake. what is allowed and what isn't

5. Is this a good protein shake to use, just thought of it from the top of my head.

    1. Place 1 scoop protein powder to milk 250ml
    2. add 5g creatine
    3. add peanut butter, chocolate spread, ice cream,  cocoa powder anything with alot of calories and sugar
    4. add some fruits maybe i.e. banana's i don't usually like banana smoothie but will hold it in.

can someone post their protein shake recipe they use when doing workout such as hypertrophy.

Thanks

what? that doesn't even make sense. you don't need ice.

sure, if you're cool eating raw eggs. why would that not be okay?

what? enough for what? it depends on what you're using the shake for. if it's to get all your protein for a given day, then no, one scoop is not enough. if it's to get some extra calories and extra protein and you're already getting enough or almost enough protein over the course of the day, then it's plenty.

4 I also heard people putting alot of crazy stuff into the shake. what is allowed and what isn't

everything is allowed. why wouldn't something be allowed? you could put arsenic in there if you really wanted to.

I don't know maybe it might be too much proteins  :P, ok so its ok to put raw egg. Im ok with raw eggs
before, i was thinking, long time ago that i didn't want to break the protein structure of the egg, which i read somewhere so i made a hole in the egg and sucked out the raw egg nasty but edible.

Its protein just for the workout i did, i don't think i will be getting enough protein for the day so 2 scoops. i just want enough protein to make my muscles big after a workout  :P j/k i was thinking the protein was for the exercise to ... forget it 2 scoops it is i can't explain it. 2 scoops as i will be living in a uni accom and i won't be getting enough protein for the day.
how much protein is enough, is 3 meals a day enough?

that is less for a protein shake and do you use the smoothie after workout with the protein shake or the smoothie is for some more extra protein later in the day.

Thanks for the help.

what i have learned: i can add anything into my protein, use 2 scoops because my diet sucks and no crushed ice.
