Title: DOPE recipes!
Post by: Sean0013 on December 09, 2010, 12:03:51 pm
Alright...I thought i'd share some of my mad creations with you guys.
Heres what I made today:

Spinach and Onion curry bread.

Ingredients

Wheat Flour (200 gram)
Oat Flour (200 gram)
Malt Flour (100 gram)
Sesame seeds, Pumpkin seeds, Linseeds, Poppy Seeds (Up to 30-40 grams)
200 grams of Spinach.
One large Onion.
1 pack bakers yeast (should be like 10 grams or something I think)
Cinnamon powder, Garlic powder, Chilli Powder, Salt, Turmeric, Ginger powder (you can get these combined in curry powders - I had them lying around the apartment so I threw them in according to what I wanted - Cinnamon, Garlic, Chilli Powder, Turmeric all have definite benefits for athletes though).
300 ml of water
15 ml of Olive Oil (or another healthy vegetable oil)

BAKING TIME!

1. Throw the flours, seeds and yeast in a bowl.
2. Add the water and then oil and mix it up as much as you can.
3. Add the spices - I'd go with a tablespoon of cinnamon (decreases the insulin spike from the carbs and has anti-diabetic effects), a teaspoon of garlic powder (tastes good - has antioxidants), a teaspoon of Salt (taste), a tablespoon of Turmeric (aids in fat metabolism, speeds up healing), as much Chilli Powder as you like (increases fat oxidation).
4. Chop and fry the onions in a pan..use a little olive oil if you like.
5. Throw washed spinach on top of onions and fry.
6. Dump juices and spinach and onions into bread mix.
7. Stir and leave to sit somewhere warm/@ room temo for an hour.
8. Put in the oven at 220 celsius for an  30 mins

Nutritional Profile
Per 100g

Calories ~ 252kcal
Protein ~ 12g
Carbs ~28g (of which sugar ~ 1g, of which starch ~ 297g)
Fat ~ 10g (all good fats, about 2g of saturates which you don't need to worry about!)
Fibre ~7g
A bunch of healthy spices to boost your metabolism, help recovery and protect against diseases.

A 50g slice of this with 100g of meat, some vegetables and maybe a small slice of cheese (or some other fat source) is pretty much a perfect meal! It tastes damn good and if you are on a budget buying the ingredients and baking a batch of bread each week is gonna save you alot of money over a month...plus it tastes better.

Throw some spinach on that bitch in a toasted cheese and chicken melt.....roid sandwich to go!

a great topic, unfortunately I have no recipes.. I don't put any real effort into cooking.

i'll include some of my favorite meals:

main dish (any of these, not all):
- cheeseburger, medium, on two slices of multigrain bread or wheat bread, 1 slice of cheese (cheddar/provalone/american)
- egg sandwhich, 3 eggs, scrambled, on two slices of multigrain bread or wheat bread, 1 slice of cheese (chedder/provalone)
- turkey and cheese sandwhich on multigrain bread or wheat bread

side dish (any of these):
- about 30 green beans, boiled for 12-15 minutes, dip in ketchup while eating
- raw pack of ramen noodles
- about 30 green beans + broccoli/broccoli stalks, boil green beans for 7min, add broccoli at 7min and cook for 7 more min

late night snacks:
- PB burrito, one slice of multigrain or wheat bread, cover it in reeces PB, wrap it into a burrito shape
- PB sandwhich, ^^^ two slices, sandwhich style, cover one side in PB
- bananas

ok that's all i got.. lol

Two halved boneless chicken breasts (total 4 pieces of meat), about 2 lbs
half cup of fresh cilantro, chopped
5-6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
juice from 2 limes
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt
pepper

preheat oven to 350. combine all ingredients in a bowl. mix around. put in a ziploc bag or cover with saran wrap and put in fridge for at least 30 mins. put chicken on a baking sheet and bake for ~25 minutes or until center of thickest piece of chicken is white.

If you want to get fancy, this is the best appetizer recipe I know:

fresh baguette
however many slices of high-quality bacon (i.e. not the shit you buy in plastic at the supermarket...get it from the butcher)
boursin cheese
asparagus

slice baguette along the diagonal, pieces should be about 1/2" thick. lay on a cookie sheet in a single layer. toast in oven at 400 degrees for a couple of minutes. you know, like making toast.

trim and then steam asparagus until spears have turned bright green, then immediately plunge them into ice water. chop asparagus and bacon to same length as baguette slices.

spread boursin cheese on baguette slices. lay bacon and then asparagus on each slice. how much you put on will depend on the size of the baguette, but it shouldn't completely cover the bread.

eat.

NB: the plunging into ice water part is really important.

That sounds good man....Nando's is the shit. Went there today actually. 1/4 Chicken with extra-hot sauce, 1/2 corn on the cob, macho peas and salad....Even if you eat every last bit of the chicken that meal is still as healthy as it gets, it's tasty and it's not too expensive...I fucking love that place man!

In honour of our stickiness...

Irish Stew

Ingredients

500g (~1lb) of diced beef or lamb. (Stewing beef is usually pretty cheap about 4 dollars to the lb here. It's cheaper because it's tougher meat because the muscle has alot of connective tissue...it's packed full of protein (~34g per 100g and relatively low in fat)
2-3 carrots
1-2 Onions
2-3 Pieces of celery
1 can of chopped tomatoes.
Beef stock cubes.
Salt.
Pepper.
Olive oil.
Parsley, basil or bayleafs.
400g potatoes.

Instructions

1. Fill a pot with about 400ml of water.
2. Throw in the diced beef or lamb.
3. Throw in chopped carrots, onions and celery.
4. Add 1 beef cube (for flavour it adds a little bit of fat...I think about 2-3g per cube)
5. Add canned chopped tomatoes.
6. Boil potatoes seperately in water.
7. Bring the meat and vegetable mix to the boil and then bring down the temperature until the stew is simmering. Throw in salt, pepper, bayleaves, basil and parsley to your liking. Add a teaspoon or two of olive oil for flavor and to get some more good fats in.
8. Leave the stew simmering for an hours. This lets the flavor from the vegetables and meat to enter into the liquid part of the stew. It also breaks down the connective tissue in the meat and makes it soft.
9. Let the potatoes cook in boiling water for about 30 minutes ..if you chop them up in halves they'll cook faster.
10. After 30 minutes seperate potatos from the water and switch off the heat.
11. After an hour turn the heat off and let the stew sit for another hour at least.
12. Come back, heat that shit up and throw some potatoes into it.

Nutrition per serving (makes approx 4 servings)

+35g of protein.
~30g of carbs.
Loads of fibre.
<10g of fat.
Loads of nutrients from vegetables.
Should come out to about 300-400 kcal per serving.

Alternative for the Irish stew: use chicken stock instead of water, or replace some of the water with chicken stock.

Wow...a tbue of protein powder... :-\ really?!?

Anyway , just made these today...

Super Protein Burger

Ingredients

Makes 2

100g of lean mince.
1 egg
2 tablespoons oats
1 table spoon herbs (thyme, basil, oregano, marjoram..whatever)
pinch of salt and pepper
2 tablespoons unflavoured Milk Protein/Casein (I get mine from myprotein.co.uk it's got a real powdery consistency and it's great for adding to baked/cooked stuff)

1. Mash all that shit up.
2. Flatten it out to a burger shape...throw it on a grill or pan and cook it.
3. Serve however you like.

Guestimation of macros ~ 150kcal per burger ~20g protein, ~5g fat, ~5g carbs

Tastes just as good as a real burger and much healthier...I have these in a breakfast muffin with some eggs and ketchup, maybe a lil bacon with the fat trimmed off but ya can eat 'em however ya like.
Title: Re: DOPE recipes!

There is no way on earth the macros are that low with those ingredients, protein especially. 100g of lean beef alone has 26g protein and 6g fat. When you add the protein powder, oats, etc...

I use this recipe and have them on my breaks at work. not too bad, a piece of piss to make and taste alright.
I'd recommend these if you haven't got much time and can't be bothered to cook anything. Wrap them in foil and take them out with you.

Eggs with tuna

I eat this usually to get myself going and get enough protein for the morning.

You need 3 eggs and tuna ( low mercury if possible).
Get those three eggs in a bawl and remove 2 yokes (all the protein is in the white part and we keep one yoke cuz of the taste ) put tuna in and mix it up. And make it like you will make an omlet!

There you go it takes around 5-6 min too make, cheap and it is a good nutritional value!
Title: Re: DOPE recipes!
Post by: LBSS on October 16, 2012, 10:18:30 am
what do you have against egg yolks?
Title: Re: DOPE recipes!
Post by: MrBig on October 16, 2012, 11:34:35 am
Egg yokes have their good and bad sides. But don't want to get boring here with science stuff all in all they have more bad stuff then good....They are good for getting your blood picture etc. but contain tons of shit that are bad... This does NOT mean you should not eat it,just eat it but not too much. On the other side whites are full of protein and stuff that will help you so much... :)

Confirmed , too much bad cholesterol would be the worse. Fuckers taste awesome though. When i do egg recipes i put 6 whites / 1.5 yolks.
You seem to have done your homework in nutrition, what is your opinion about canned tuna in regards to the fukoshima accident?

Thank you my man..and yes. I researched pretty good on nutrition and workouts in the past few years and learned from the best. Now its time to learn even more and of course share that with others!

To be honest that excident had an effect on an entire echo system including us. General opinion on tuna ( and this is on most products ) is that the price will tell you (in 80 % of the cases) that the food is good. When you take tuna for example, low mercury tuna is expensive as hell but very good. They will also have a sign probably that it is a low mercury one... Also that does NOT mean you should not eat regular tuna, you could eat it 1-3 times a week, but eating it 7 times a week and it is not a low mercury one, well you are gonna have a bad time :d Hope that this helps! As I said that excident had an effect on all of us but big part went on fishes and animals...

^Good post.
I'm aware of the mercury issue  it is an issue for all fish , the higher they are in the food chain the worse, i was buying mercury-free ones already.
Radioactivity is something much more important and dangerous. Most tunas are supposedly fished and packed in Thailand but how can you be sure , and it's very close there too.
Canned tuna was my #1 source of food protein, easy to store, long expiry date , no cooking, no fat , no carbs, high percentage of good quality ( BCAA chain ) protein, it is actually a solid state protein supplement.
I recently stopped consuming them, but i am still not sure if all this tuna/fukoshima correlation is a fact or an urban legend / conspiracy theory...

marinate 2.5 lbs (a bit more than a kilo) of chicken thighs in a quarter cup (you figure out the damn metric measurement) of teriyaki sauce and a few chopped cloves of garlic and roast at 450 for like half an hour. baste once about halfway through with more teriyaki. if you want to do the veggie at the same time, quarter some bok choy and add it over the top of the chicken with about ten minutes to go.

delicious, couldn't be easier, you can make a whole bunch at once, and incredibly cheap.

a recipe that includes physical exertion as the most important component:

1. exert yourself (particularly in the heat) for a considerable amount of time
2. lose a significant amount of water weight
3. pull a bunch of grapefruits out of the fridge (better if cold)
4. cut them in half
5. squeeze the juice onto a spoon, slurp it down, then dig into the grape fruit & grab the pulp & some more juice
6. repeat while in utopia.

recipe will probably also work well with coconuts, watermelon, oranges, etc.

grapefruits are the shit. they're in season here right now and daaaaaamn.

here's a delicious salad my gf made the other day:

- ~2 cups lentils (cooked and cooled at least to room temp)
- 2 small or 1 med cucumber chopped pretty fine
- 1 cup pomegranate seeds
- bunch of mint chopped
- drizzle of balsamic vinegar (start with a little and add a little more if not enough, to taste)
- salt to taste

Nice, glad you enjoyed his format. I wouldn't take that chicken flavour part tooo seriously, i think it's a rasta thing where they avoid processed foods and things like salt and SUGAR -- preferring whole, natural foods/ingredients, but yea obviously he's just now adding salt back in the guise of something else, paradoxically quite processed! It's ok, we know better as educated folk that salt is not an enemy per se .. so you can prob just just substitute salt instaed of that MSG laden stuff and still make it work.
