Title: When feeling sleepy and tired before a work-out.
Post by: KokoyPinoy on January 22, 2011, 11:57:58 pm
I frequently feel sleepy and tired even after doing the specified warm-up  because I need to study ( :-X ) that's why I didn't have enough sleep. What is better, drink a coffee (or other drinks that pump up an athlete) and risk having longer recovery period or push through with the training until you feel awake and risk having less results on that training? Or are there other ways to be more awake?

what are you eating before working out? if it is carb heavy, it can be making you even more tired..

i'd utilize the caffeine prior to the most important workouts, wouldn't for the less important workouts, and i'd try to figure out how to feel better naturally (somehow getting more sleep, quick 30min nap, etc).

I always eat an omelet sandwich an hour before my work-out. What is the best meal before a work-out? I'll try your advice, thank you! Oh, okay i'll try to drink coffee and state what it did for me tomorrow. thanks!

omelet should be good actually.. i usually don't eat too much before training, if i do it's hours before, such a a turkey and cheese sandwich, cheeseburger etc, egg sandwich etc.. if training is important, i usually eat big the day BEFORE.. so if i'm planning some big training on monday, i'll eat real big on sunday, and eat lighter on monday to keep me nice and alert.. if training is very important i'll take coffee + protein + milk (protein shake) an hour or so before training.

so, smaller meals, higher protein content is better before workouts.. doesn't matter as much 4+ hours out, could be higher carb etc.. but eating alot of fat/carb right before training can cause you to get drowsy.

peace man

Thanks for the information! I'm currently saving up for protein shakes (its expensive here.... and I want to cry cause I can't afford it...) Could I take coffee 10 minutes before training?

hey man! Are you from the Philippines?! Hahaha?! Really? I thought because balut came earlier from an egg , with yolks and egg whites,(duh...) which has 6 grams of protein, the balut also just have 6 grams of protein?... Conservation of mass and shit. Hahahaha I don't know. That's only my theory ahahhaha.

Nah man, I got some phillipino friends..they eat that stuff all the time...I don't know the exact make up of balut in terms of protein/fat but i'd guess it has a decent amount of fat in it like any other eggs but they're a decent protein source for sure. You probably need to eat a few of them to get a meals worth of protein though. Are they cheap in the Phillipines?

hahaha! They are very cheap! But easily makes you feel full! It is around $ 0.25 for a piece. It is very delicious!

They are pre-matured duck eggs where you could actually see the duck (with no feathers) when you eat it. It is partnered with vinegar or salt. It is very yummy! Let me browse a pick... Here! Enjoy!: (Don't judge the taste by the looks):

My exact reaction to the picture as well...

A lot of my friends swear by SuperPump 250. I've tried it, and it is a great supplement for getting pumped before workouts. It's just too much $ to spend regularly so I don't buy it. I stick with just trying to get pumped the natural way by warming up, etc. Much cheaper! Haha.  :strong:

Another thing I've heard that works...kinda, is find a Youtube mix of basketball plays, or sports plays that you really like with some strong music and watch it before or while you workout. Guess that's more of a psyche type thing, but I've heard that can work too.

Hahaha. How much is it in your place? I did try to listen to music but it didn't make any difference. I was just to sleepy and tired. I haven't tried to eat balut before a work-out. I always eat it after. I'll try it next time. :)

They even had it as a challenge in an episode of fear factor. But they did mention its a normal food there.
Its all subjective , i think all cultures eat some foods they consider normal and delicious that would make others puke!
For the record , i also find balut eggs disgusting , just by looks , i have never tried one and i don't plan to! :D
