Favourite Character From The Wire?

I just finished binge watching The Wire for about the 3rd time and I always pick up new details each time I re-watch the series. It's definitely my favourite show due to the high details and the fact that it shows the world is far beyond black and white, which is what most shows portray.
Personally my favourite season is season 3 where Barksdale comes out of prison to find that Stringer has completely fucked up the game and compromised his empire by letting guys like Marlo take over prime corners.

My favourite character from the show was Bodie. In the first season you see he's a thug and doesn't question the game. However, over time you see him mature and he realises that the game is fucked up but he's stuck in his circumstances. Even though he was never a boss it was cool how he went out fighting for his corner instead of surrendering and getting killed in some vacant. I liked heaps of other characters 2 and wish I had Slim Charles voice haha.

I tried to watch The Wire and gave up after the first 6 or 7 episodes because it bored the fuck out of me.

I desperately need to watch The Wire. Been meaning to for literally years. I've watched all Sopranos twice and I haven't seen The Wire yet! Lol.

Stringer Bell. He has that very memorable line 'Nigga is you talking notes on a criminal fuckin conspiracy??'. But there are so many good ones, hard to choose.

acole, watch the first episode, you'll know if it's your thing within the first 5 minutes. Either you love it, or you don't. Easy enough to check.

I can't bring myself to re-watch it though. I've rewatched sopranos, and got partly thru shield, but there is no way i could watch Wire again, too much.

everyone should watch it, it's one of the greatest works of art of the last 20 years. but keep in mind borges's dictum that (paraphrasing) if a work doesn't grab your imagination, if it bores you, no matter how famous or "great," then it's just not for you and that's okay.

don't let the first episode determine it for you, acole. i false-started with it once and was turned off by a snatch of a random episode i caught before that. stick with it a bit and it will hook you completely. also, protip: my mom, a native english speaker, watched with subtitles for a while so she could understand some of the characters. the baltimore accents are thick and nonnative marylanders sometimes have difficulty understanding.

to answer mutomb0000000's question, bodie is a great choice. so as not to be boring and pick the same one (or stringer, who is of course awesome), i'll go with bunny colvin. principled, ballsy, totally self-deluded but reflective rather than rigid when his delusions backfire.

DIGRESSION:
fwiw, i love baltimore and have spent a lot of time there. dad took us to baseball games there growing up (go o's!), they've got some cool museums and a great aquarium and so on. now it's where my gf lives and goes to school (hopkins) and i have a bunch of other friends up there, as well. periodically i fantasize about buying a house there because i could get a really nice place right now at my present salary, it's so inexpensive. the commute down to DC would just be a little too much (1.5-2 hours each way and $220/month in transit costs vs. the $0 i pay now to walk to work in less than 20 minutes).

also, fun fact: the store where mcnulty buys a key item in season five, eddie's, was my gf's neighborhood grocery throughout undegrad. it's a crappy grocery store but they make good sandwiches.
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.

Omar Little's my favorite. The court scene he was in was awesome:

If I was rating the Seasons from best to worst it would be 3,4,1,2,5
Being a non-native English speaker it would probably be harder to follow and you'd need to concentrate a lot more to understand since The Wire is heavy on dialogue.

Yeah Stringer's a boss.
Stringer Bell: That's good. That's like a 40-degree day. Ain't nobody got nothing to say about a 40-degree day. Fifty. Bring a smile to your face. Sixty, shit, niggas is damn near barbecuing on that motherfucker. Go down to 20, niggas get their bitch on. Get their blood complaining. But forty? Nobody give a fuck about 40. Nobody remember 40, and y'all niggas is giving me way too many 40-degree days! What the fuck?
Sapper: [a few minutes later when Stringer is done talking] We on that shit like a Forty Degree Day!

It was also funny when he asked Slim Charles to murder Clay Davis and then Slim Charles is like you mean Clay Davis as in downtown Clay Davis that's some assasination type shit and then Avon comes in and schools Stringer for getting played by the politicians.

That's cool I'd love to go and visit Baltimore and check out all the streets and see if I recognize the scenery from The Wire. If I went for a visit I'd come during NFL season and then go watch a Ravens game. Might even try a burger from Lake Trout haha.

lake trout is actually just a kind of sandwich with fried fish (i don't think it's trout) with the bones still in.

lol, i love stringer bell. He's so ambitious and innovative, it just goes to show you have to know your market. Doesn't matter how great and bold your visions are if you don't understand the people you're dealing with. I totally forgot the rest of that scene (re 40 degree days),  thanks for reminding me. Slim Charles has some great lines.

How do you people find this series so interesting? I don't get it. For me it was the most boring thing ever... I just don't understand how can someone find that interesting. It gets better in the 2nd season or something? Because the first one SUUUUUUUUCKS

agree to disagree man, like borges said: if it bores you then it's not for you. that's cool. for me (and for many, many other people) it's one of the great works of art of the last couple decades.

True that.
In the end he became to devious for his own good and got himself killed. Prop Joe was smart as well but he failed to learn from Stringer's mistakes and realize that somebody like Marlo can't be controlled by money or goodwill.
