How long does it take you guys to fall asleep?

Criteria:

No more chores/jobs/food/activities for the day
It's bedtime (as in the usual time you go to bed)
It's a weekday
You are sober
Lights out, TV off, phone off, under blanket.



Takes me usually 1hr 15min... i don't understand this. I literally just lay there, in the dark, awake for over an hour. It gets so boring. Why the hell can't I sleep?

I know so many people that fall asleep in under 15 minutes... I wish that could be me

About an hour. If I'm taking an afternoon nap it's like 5 minutes

I remember the average being 13-15 minutes based on sleep cycle clocks, but I can't do it. I think it's easier if you have a consistent sleep schedule, but being in college that's almost impossible.

About 5-10 minutes most days.  But my work days start at 4:30am with an alarm clock which I usually anticipate and wake up before.  I used to have trouble sleeping in college too, part of the reason I don't know is because I am old and I am actually busy.  I thought I was busy in college with practice and class.... but it really doesn't compare to how life hits you when you get older.

Melatonin works wonders.  Used it in college and if I need to get up early and got off schedule from a holiday I still use it to get back on track.  Take 3mg for a couple days and you can reset your bedtime.

If i wait for sleep to come, it takes some time but if i just rest let sleep come then about 10mins

10-15 minutes in that scenario, because i've already been in bed for a bit and read until my eyes felt heavy. used to be a lot longer.

lying in the dark trying to go to sleep is unproductive and stupid, as i think you've probably already figured out. get a reading light if you don't have one already and pick up a book. best case scenario you read for a while and then you're tired enough to fall asleep. worst case scenario you're reading for a long while but at least you're not bored and frustrated.

alternatively, use the time to meditate.
Muscles are nonsensical they have nothing to do with this bullshit.

Less than half an hour.
If I feel like I won't be able to fall asleep quickly, then I'll just stay up, no point being restless in bed, getting pissed off that you're not falling asleep.

lately 5-10 minutes.. though up until the last 2 years or so, it could take me hours to sleep.. going to bed really late (~5am) really helps me get to sleep fast, for some reason.. when my schedule is 'normal', takes me longer to sleep, no matter how long i've been at that schedule.

it was hell trying to fall asleep in college/high school.

I think if you go to sleep when you actually FEEL like sleeping, you're going to be fine and get to sleep really soon. If you push through and stay late, even though you're more tired, you won't go to sleep so well/so fast.

i'd second this. in my own experience, if i'm tired but push through for whatever dumb reason, i have a harder time getting to sleep. if i let myself go to bed before i've gotten my second wind, i'm good.
