This forum is dying down, BUT...

... i feel it's only because we're all knowledgable already and stuff.

We don't get much people coming in here asking about air alert and jumpsoles lol.

seems to be that there hasnt been much new research regarding improving ones VJ. so we kinda already all see thru the BS and know the tried and proven methods for the most part thus far.

i like this place. though i have to admit, i do miss the terminal vertical days.

I mean look at the damn topics on that site. It used to be HUGELY popular.
http://web.archive.org/web/20040122235534/http://vert.proboards10.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&num=1071960816

that's before it blew up, but look at the level of knowledge.
Seems to be that the more you know, the less chatter there is on the boards.

There is an obvious decrease indeed , just take a look at the monthly history at the statistics page.
http://www.adarq.org/forum/stats/

There was a sudden burst at March 2010 ( new topics 55--->115 , new posts 442--->1348 ) and it kept linearly increasing after that. Peak was February 2011 ( 239 new topics , 5348 new posts ). After that a slow decline started , but numbers stayed high.
I think that 2 facts were a big turning point for the final big decrease , adarq's ( temporary? ) retirement and alink's shit.
October, November and December stats are not reliable because forum was offline most of the time , but look at February , 920 new posts , first time it's under 1000 again after that March 2010.
I don't think the forum is dying though , just became 'unpopular'. Stop of advertizing (adarq's youtube channels ), adarq not able to provide the free coaching thing and adarq not commenting on journals would be the main causes imo. But who cares? The dedicated consistent trainees are still here. Check the journal's sorted by posts:
flander , me , bedouin , lbss , raptor , rip , cowed : 1000 to 1500 posts and still at it.
If you ask me i prefer the forum like it is now , not too empty like in the beginning , but not too many newbs and air alert kids either. It's easier to follow most of the peoples progress now and there is a good filtering , as you said people in here now are knowledgeable therefore more interesting/useful to follow them.

Yeah a handful of people stopped posting, like Steven Miller.

But the truth is - it's not that complicated to train. Just do the basic lifts and be consistent.

That's why you've made so many gains in the last 5 years

good post vag.. ya unfortunately a big reason for the drop in traffic/posts is my "retirement".. i always wondered what would happen if i stopped training, guess we found out... BUT, there are still people journaling and posting, more of a tight knit group of people, less "quick answers/quick glory" people like dreyth pointed out..

i don't really think the alink situation did much, i'd imagine the 1 month of data we lost did more damage, which is tied to alink so.. ;d

i appreciate so much that people are still communicating/posting/having fun on the forum, you guys especially, for continuing to journal etc..

i'm hardcore into coding now, and im becoming a professional relaxer who listens to beast classical daily.. a major shift from my dunking days, tell me about it.. but anyway there's always been lots of stuff i've "wanted to do in life" besides athletics, so, now that i've somehow lost the love to train, that's what im focusing on.

am still here, posting, just more so in the NERD section hah... probably in the not so distant future, i'll start going apeshit again, but with my new hobbies.. posting alot regarding that stuff.. politics/programming/relaxing(lmfao) ;)

pC

ps: that 1 month of data loss really pissed me off, still does, i hate losing data.

Yeah i think Adarq not making youtube vids anymore is probably the main reason for the sight having heaps less traffic. For example I never would've found this website if it wasn't for seeing Adarq's dunking videos on youtube and the link connecting it to this site. Pretty close to 800k views on youtube! I love this site and even though Adarq isn't into athletic training atm I've read soo many inspirational posts from him, which has given me the motivation to set goals and bust my ass to achieve them.
"IMO, It didn't happen if it's not on vid/official"- adarqui

that makes me happy :F glad the work i put in, and some of the posts/articles can still have such an effect.

appreciate it man.. glad you're busting your ass too :)

the 800k thing is cool, still getting subs/views hah.. ill reach a mil without having posted a video for a year probably.. i do plan on making a legit video, maybe 6 months from now or so, but it'll be like some twisted tricked out video that involves no training.. got a few ideas, kind of want to do it.. oh it'll involve an animal too probably hah.

pc man

He is in that phase right now , it's as simple as that. He may come back at it tomorrow , in 5 years or never. It's all fine!
If you ask me , that training/dunking virus never dies , it re-flares. Dunking/vert training is a virus with a random incubation time. It stays there , inactive , you are carrying it but it is not active, you're the host , and the boom , you are the patient! :D
Last time Andrew retired it took him 6 months to come back. It took me 10 years though:
I was into dunking and training for it at my early to mid 20's. Then i just stopped , i don't even remember why , jumping and dunking passion just disappeared. I would occasionally play a pickup game and not even care or think how high i am getting up. I started playing organized bball again at ~32 years old , went to the gym too, still no remembrance of vert and dunks. One of our rims started to get lower though , the 'chord' holding it gradually loosened. It came down to ~9'8''. One day i said let's see , can i get it? I jumped up and with my shit-tastic ~24'' RVJ i got 2-3 knuckles above the rim and grabbed it hard. That was it , it all came back in an instant , 1 or 2 weeks later i started air alert , you know the rest of the story...

I once talked to a guy who thought Air Alert is too low of a volume so he did it all compressed to 3 times the volume. He had tendinitis in the knees for 3 months or so.
