it would make total sense if there were NO bands...
if he was trying to eliminate the concentric, unfortunately, he'd have to have spotters help each rep up, or just do a negative and hit pins, re-rack it, repeat..
the reverse band setup is practically pulling that bar off his back on the way down.. it's canceling out the effect of those weight releasers..

Yeah the bands do look like they're too strong in the video cause it looks like he's pulling the thing down with him, but if he had 110% of his max on the bar or something then he could have had the weight releasers to cancel out the effect of the bands on the way down and on the way up the band would help him lift it back up. you subbed to him? ya he's cool but here's his problem.. he tries to put out videos EVERY DAY, so i mean, you have to put out alot of "new shit", so that dumb trainer basically makes up new drills every day.. i guarantee you dreupt has not gained much in vert/speed or any of that.. he probably gained on conditioning, his "plyometric sessions" look like puke circuits.

that actually looks like it might help in FB..just bare with me here...alot of times when your blocking, the guys is not just standing still, he is moving back and forth to get away from you...so maybe this will help with stability and get a better block

Its purpose is to increase stability of the shoulder joint. Most people have terrible shoulder stability when performing pressing exercises and this exercise trains the lifter to stay extremely tight and stable through the shoulder joint and upper back while pressing.

Yes, it can actually be useful but shouldnt make up alot of the bulk of ones program. You also have to be very careful with loading correctly and make sure the spotter is paying attention. The kid in the video is out of control, he is using way too heavy of a load for his ability, and the spotter is not paying attention so this demo sucks but the exercise has use.

Yea, the video you posted was funny. Kid had no business doing that and was lucky he didnt get hurt or hurt someone around him by losing control of the bar. Thats the thing with more advanced techniques is beginners are the ones who jump up and implement them, leaving the basics behind.

Yea, he's comical, like all the weird shit they do in their videos is sport specific anyway. He puts out those stupid videos and people that have no understanding of training buy into it. Then he has some clients who were already great athletes waaayyy before they came to his facility, and people think he has everything figured out. I would love to see him train a high school freshman that way who had no base strength to begin with and was slow as fuck. After a few months or so he would still be at square one strength and speed wise, but he would dominate any drills they did on a balance board.

LOL yea, I have never seen this one time in over 14 years of training myself and other athletes, but maybe he sees it all the time since he doesnt use squats, everytime one of his guys sneaks a set in they blow out a patellar tendon.

yup, they usually develop huge reciprocal inhibition in agonist/antagonist muscle groups, involved in whatever it is they are training for.. that can easily cause all kinds of MAJOR injuries, even though it results in greater performance.. proper resistance training is a great way to help prevent joint stabilization to that extent, through strengthening of antagonist muscle groups.. sure you can achieve that many ways, but wobble boarding while fapping to a cheetah poster won't do it.

hey man, working hard, but i have some criticism.. i wouldn't squat in the smith, squat in a rack, free, if form is an issue, do it off pins/box.. deadlift looks like you are rounding your back bigtime.. strict form will have better transfer to vert even though weight would need to be lighter.. jump squats should be done initially, when legs are fresh, and lighter, it's taking you very long to perform each rep.. depth drops are a little too high, need to land deeper too and stick that landing.

@adarqui : lunge jumps wen legs are dead is a bad idea, imagine how bad your knee stability is with all that fatigue, not good.. you workout, honestly, should be: lunge jump, jump squat, depth drop, squat.. i would put squat/deadlift on different days.
also, you really need to get your body composition in check, that will yield some great gains in athleticism just by losing body fat alone.. seriously, you'd gain alot athletically if you dropped some fat.

i have 1 on a 17" box which is a inch above parallel during a cutting phase at 220lbs when i did bodybuilding
no normal ones tho since ill barely video tape lifts since it gets annoying after awhile, its in with my video of me going over 200lbs on a upright row
and i honestly dont really feel the need to have to prove myself when ive benched more than most people on here can squat

Your upright rows, would be better named hang clean high pulls as well.

I just realized that, mathematically, I can get a full squat by doing a sissy squat with my knees going forward and down, and letting my butt a bit lower. The angle between my femur and my tibia would get really low, under 90, so it would be a full squat. Gotta start practicing that. BRB

I wonder if this is caused by him racking the weight on his throat (i.e. the wrong way). When I first starting learning the clean, there were occasions where I would do that and get dizzy within seconds.
As for the kneeling squats videos, they are useful for a lot of people who are lacking in the glute activation department, but I've only known of them being used with very low weights. Though I think Louie Simmons from westside barbell used them as strictly posterior chain work.
I wish I had a video, but there used to be a guy at my gym would do 1-pullup then try to hold there while doing all kinds of kicks in the air... kinda like in the old action movies where there's the occasional scene where the guy jumps on a bar then kicks a bad guy running at him.

Well most of the time boxers can't hold their arms up due to lack in strength in the shoulders in that exact position so that's the premise of that exercise. The other thing is overloading that movement with additional weight. I won't get into trying to say if that's good or not since I don't really care, but doesn't seem so pointless.

He could benefit from whatever will improve his VJ, and not just SVJ (which matter quite a bit in ability to get rebounds), but vertical in general, clearly you missed the fact taht his one footed vertical is also below average. I was not condemming the athlete at all, he probbly is a great basketball player.

Actualy where im from (argentina) the crossfit fever would be great, so comercial gyms would bring some adecuate material for lifting. squat racks and oly shoes are as hard to see as ufo's. last year i went to a gim in spain, i saw some bumper plates and i almost cryed.... it felt like disneyland

I just wasted 5 min watching the whole video now and then I went to his website and I finally understood what you were saying and what the HAS stands for. He could get away with that if he knew where power comes from, but since he does not, it makes him look like a tool to those who actually know a bit more about proper strength training. I have no further comments on how poor the exercise selection is in this video. But to novices, interesting looking exercises, or one footed things on stability balls that are eye catching sell their point really well, more than the basic squat and deadlift routine will. This guy probably runs a 5 second 40.

Whats ironic about that video is that mo was very vocal on how paused full squats (sitting on his calves) helped his 100m time so much.
He was basically using it as a direct spp movement to his start, pause 5 seconds, call to UP! then explode. Its pretty clear that hes there for pr though and not giving his own training tips.

that's actually a pretty common way to clean a thick axle. you see it alot in strongman. it's hard to grip the big bars to pull them off the ground with a normal double overhand and they are too fat to use the hook grip. also they are too fat to just roll your wrists over at the top of the clean. it works alot better for big strongmen types that have a large belly to rest the axle on. also you are supposed to lean back at the knees more and almost incline press the axle up, like the old olympic lifters did on their press. or the other way is to double underhand it from the belly to the shoulders by basically rolling it up to the shoulders, sometimes even using the foreamrs or elbows to get it to the shoulders. it's hard for a skinny woman to do it right as they have no belly to rest it on and they have no bodyweight to use for momentum. if you ever use a really heavy sandbag it's the same. you have to get it to your belly and then sort of roll it up to shoulders before you press it. stones work similar to get then to your shoulders. you have to break the clean into two motions. people also do the same basic thing often times when flipping tires, bringing it up to waist or belly and then turning hands over and pushing the rest of the way up.

That's actually pretty cool... makes me remember a chezkenny video where he had a machine that was a leg extension to leg curl machine that teached agonist to antagonist tension-relaxation... and it looked kinda gimmicky but he swore it helped him, especially with his one-leg jumps.

I've thought of that too but since I wanted to train more specifically I decided to let the function of the depth drop be achieved through a one step run in, similar to a running vertical jump, except with slightly less horizontal velocity to enable me to grab on to the bar and plant my feet properly to lift up the weight using muscles in a manner very specific to a running vertical jump - in order to do this with a LR plant for instance, I may start my penultimate step facing 0 degrees relative to the end of the barbell, but face 45 degrees to the left, so negative 45 degrees upon planting my feet. As I lift the weight, I will rotate the barbell with a negative angular velocity, i.e. the bar will rotate counter clockwise until it has been displaced approximately -30 degrees. I may also be facing more to the left, as I naturally would during an LR plant vertical jump, where I rotate counter clockwise a bit.
The rotation stuff isn't necessary, as some do not RV with a rotation. So using a simple drop step is fine but coming in horizontally helps to train the conversion of momentum from the horizontal to the vertical. I'm actually planning on starting my runinng vertical jump deadlifts again soon, but i do lunges so often that I'm not sure if it's necessary.

You're crazy... there's no need to replicate and overload jumping mechanics in the gym. The gym is for building muscle. You can overload the jumping by doing depth jumps (if anything, do side depth jumps like I'm doing, where you drop off to the side and there's a 1-2 (LR or RL) plant sequence. Or you could use a powerjumper. Or you could use a weight vest. Or you could use more speed in an actual jump etc.
You're dangerously playing with recruitment as well (maybe training for a bad recruitment pattern) if you try to replicate the jumping moevment (or any dynamic movement) in the gym too much.

i figured out what it looks like.. if you watch that vid, it basically looks like this guy is about to shit himself. as he gets closer to his destination in the city, looks like he's ready to explode.
the shoes are probably definitely promoting that weirdness I see. maybe excessive heel striking makes it look like you're going to crap yourself? i'll have to go check youtube.
