vid of me, shooting and some light jumps

here's a kind of long raw footage of me just shooting around and getting some light jumps/dunks in. These seem to help with recovery alot. I only did maybe 3 or 4 maximal effort jumps at the end the rest were kind of light easy jumps. It feels good to be dunking and just playing ball alot again. I like to do this every day and just call it basketball cardio. The video is kinda long because it's not really edited I only trimmed the beginning and end of the clip... Adarqui might appreciate the waffle racers

It seems my runup is very slow on camera, because I feel like i'm going pretty fast but the camera shows otherwise. Does any one know why or any good exercises or progressions to develop a faster run up and jump stop?

any comments or criticisms are welcome...

Haha I guess it's the camera angle, I used my iPhone which was set at like 3 ft high on a chair and bag and it was kinda tilted up to get most of the goal in the frame... I wish I was 7 feet  :-[

You really do? Imagine having a partner for a 69!

No but seriously... 7 feet is pretty big and "unusual" in your everday life. Plus you probably wouldn't jump for shit except if you're Javale McGee or Coward.

SICK!!!

i didn't even notice, but I DID NOTICE that you were on your toes alot.. which is a biproduct of waffles.

what is your opinion of them? how do they feel?

man i love my waffle racers but i think i'm going to try and get back to dunking in basketball shoes this time around... just need to find some really good light ones.

i'll continue to wear them for pretty much everything else though. my current waffles are wrecked but still usable, those things are tanks.

edit: COME TO THINK OF IT, it may be really hard for me to dunk in basketball shoes.. i really do love how waffles feel when i jump.. and since im focusing on single leg now, they feel even nicer with single leg jumps so.. dno.

ya runup definitely didnt look blazing but you were also going light and taking short runups..

just remember if you work on runup speed, it's always a focus on a smooth acceleration, not just an all out burst of speed.. has to be rhythmic imo.

not sure what to criticize considering it was a light shoot around/light jumps etc..

everything looked pretty good, movements, jumpers, jumps, plant, runups, etc..

personally i would never take slow jumpers ever.. even in a relaxed workout.. i always focused on quick release, it seemed to really pay off.. i had such a fast release that i could pull J's on people in really tough defensive situations and i credit it to always focusing on making sure to maintain speed on the pullup & J.. if i was doing relaxed movements like you, it would be that speed except for the moment i decide to J..

i think that stuff helps.. when you look at a guy like tim hardaway or jeff hornacek (guys i grew up watching), their release was unbelievable.. could J in any situation & with the tightest defense on them.

dno, 2cents. ;0

peace man, nice vid.

I mean imagine being 6'8 - 7'0 , in my opinion it would be an easy full paid college education plus maybe a minor stint in some pro leagues in Europe if you wanted. But I would not want to be the lanky goofy Anderson Varejao type either.

Thanks, That what every one says about my jumps even when I'm tryna jump as high as possible. I think it's because I have trouble with a fast run up and take off.

I really like the waffle racers!! You can't beat 30$, They are very snug and tight at first, and I though they were generally for those who have long and skinny feet. They quickly broke in though. I lift, dunk, and play pick up games in them and love it. I prefer light low cut shoes also. However, There really arent meant for the cuts and stops of lots of basketball, because they are  kind of loose on the sides of the forefoot as if they might start to rip. But overall these are some great shoes, especially for dunking.
I understand, it's hard to get used to basketball shoes after wearing light shoes like nike waffle racers and nike free 3.0 all the time.

Yeah I will try to focus on making it smoother but faster, I think I need to just try and get some dribble moves and steps down so if I get an open lane I can dribble up and dunk in a game. The only dunks I get in pick up games are usually fastbreaks, I would like to change that.

Thanks for this in depth thorough analysis, seriously. Your right my release did look pretty slow on camera. maybe thats why I kinda naturally fadeaway every time, I must've just innately developed that because of my slow release. I will try to work on a faster release, but because of my natural fadeaway my shot never gets blocked. But a quicker release will defintely help me with spot up 3s.
I'll be sure to work on that.
