Good workout videos. I hate doing bss!
-
BSS, especially with dumbbells, tire the heck out of me.
-
be careful with the DJ's, box height is getting a bit extreme.
squat & VJ looked great..
man i hate pistols.
i'd personally widen the BSS a bit.
nice vids mayne.

Haha, that's a 37 cm "box"... so 15 inches...
And I hate how "weird" I do my SVJ...

SVJ LOOKED GOOD.
-
But the landing and downward trajectory sucked hard.
-
By the way - I kind of like to do my BSSs "close" so I get more quad into it. I view it as a quad assistance exercise and not posterior chain, so I do them with a close stance, and with the knee bending quite a bit. I did enough of them really spread out.
-
If you spread more and maintain the same posture with the front leg/upper body you'll stretch your back legs hip flexor more - so it's 2 in 1 ;)
-
Yeah that's a good point. If I bend forward while doing the BSSs I load the quad anyway, so...
By the way - does anybody have any comments on my 1-2 jump squats in terms of loading/rebound speed etc?
-
the reversal looks a bit slow. Could be that you are always that "slow" or that the weight might be a bit too high. Velocity might be the most important so try to go lighter next time and compare with these!
-
Yeah I probably should've gone with 20 kg. The problem I see is that I kind of go towards the toes/quads when I load and land, although I try to do my best to keep it hip loaded on both the take off and landing. My heels just come up and that's annoying.
-
you could try to do some unweighted reps before the weighted ones and focus on pushing back/loading the hips more. perhaps you'll reinforce the movement pattern for the weighted jumps like that.
you could also try to jump a tiny bit backwards on the 1, so that you have to stop the (very small) backwards motion by sitting back... dno if this would work but you could give it a try!
:strong:

i thought they looked good, i mean the speed wasn't "Bad" but it is kind of "bad for 30kg" considering you squat 130kg plus.. so that's where the speed is bad.. it's really not that bad though, you're moving what % of your actual 1RM? like 20%? should be a little faster and a bit more jump height at that % no doubt.. so just keep working on it & really focus on the transition + maximal acceleration.

Yeah my explosiveness just exponentially lowers with weight added. For example, with an empty bar I get so high... yet with 30 kg I don't get high at all. Same with snatches. With an empty bar I do them explosive enough. Give me 30 kg and it's all shoulders, non explosive etc. It's annoying and I can't find a logical reason for that.
-
Dumbell BSS FTW!
Man I loved those...These videos remind me of the old good times...you know, when I actually had two knees LOL!
I commented about how "close" your stance looked to me the first time I saw you doing barbell bss, but if you're more comfortable that way I guess it's fine ;)

^^ esav had a diesel BSS.

Haha, yeah I remember those BSS and deadlift videos. If you talk stuff too much, you might force me to use the heaviest dumbbells available in my gym, which are 50 kg.

Try wave loading every now and then and see what happens, on the upper end of the wave loaded sets you dont even need to give a maximal effort and 1 rep is enough alot of time. Sometimes its just inhibitions that can be overcome, then when you get to the lighter sets you notice a big difference. Def didnt look bad though.
One thing that you will find as you become more explosive is you will naturally want a higher 1, dont force this but the better jumpers always naturally want a bigger preload when aiming for the highest possible 2. One thing ive found helpful is to imagine youre jumping on a trampoline, aiming for max height on the 2. Almost always get better output when I cue that.
-
Yeah I think maybe I should "depth drop" a bit forward. When I jump straight up I usually end up bending a lot at the knee and loading the quads a lot and very little hip. If I'd have just a SMALL displacement forward at the first jump then maybe I'd load more hip and jump higher, while also straining my knees less.
