Title: Weighted Vests
Post by: adarqui on August 24, 2010, 02:02:25 am
anyone have one? if so what kind? and is it good to jump with etc? i want a nice, snug vest, that doesn't flop around on jumps and even sprints, lunges, pullups, ghr's, walking..

anyone know if this one is good? ZFO weighted vest: http://www.amazon.com/ZFO-60LBS-Adjustable-Weighted-WEIGHTS-INCLUDED-One/dp/B002P5ZA8K

they have them for $80 on ebay for 60 lb vest... i mean it looks nice from the pictures but i can't find any youtube videos about it :/

i like the v-max vest because it's short.. but apparently it doesn't have the best 'stability'..

Hi Andrew, did you end up getting a vest? I have several at my gym. 2 X-vest's and an MIR vest. The MIR vest is 60 pounds the X-vests are lighter. The x-vests bounce around a bit but there is better ones available now that don't. The MIR vest is very good.

I only ever use it for straight up and down type jump work (seated jumps, frog jumps, etc) and occasionally throw it on with people for deadlifts, squats etc. It changes the feel of the exercise dramatically. Weight vest training seems to have a tremendous potentiation effect which i like but as for long term results it is hard to isolate something like that because there is so much more involved in what I am doing with people besides the weight vest work. As Lance said about the ropes, it only makes up a small portion of my programs

thanks for the info man, i had not seen the MIR vest, it definitely looks really good for jumps/reactive work/moving around:

that is it right?

I didn't get a vest because I just couldn't figure out which one to buy, too confusing without youtube video demonstrations etc.. But now i'm a bit interested in the MIR vest, it's not adjustable? I'd use it for low-level reactive work, walking, light sprints, and short lead in jumps/svj's, so this vest would be good for all of that? It looks great from the picture..

I see a 50 lb. one right now on amazing as well as a bunch of other weights.

peace man

That is the brand. The MIR vest is great quality and definitely adjustable. My 60 pounder can be adjusted in both weights inserted into it and the size of the thing across both the shoulders and the stomach straps.

Thanks for posting this thread, I'm looking for one. In the meantime though, I've been using a backpack, filling it with heavy textbooks. Got it to 23 pounds, could probably get it to 30 with a few more books. Tied very tightly it still bounces up and down a bit, but for sprinting, bounding, and single jumps it works great.
