Totally agree too. The well known 'ziani stretching' and 'AUT abs and calve raises' stories!

Had a guy like this on my youtube channel recently:

LOL , i didn't even reply, i was like "let go man, let go..."

hah.. so frustrating sometimes :F

come on vag, get a clue, all you have to do is play 2 hours of basketball a day to get 40" RVJ.. someone tell that to all of those college/nba players too.. i'd imagine they are only playing for 1.5 hours a day, that's why they are below 40.

why not allowing weaker limb to dictate reps per set and total reps? my impression has always been that it's better to use the weaker limb as the equalizer, to prevent exacerbation of the imbalance.

right, i kind of look at it a little differently. studies show that strength training one limb only, can yield improvements in the opposite limb.. so, if i notoriously have issues with a weaker limb (left), i might as well go as hard as possible on the stronger limb because it may in fact transfer over.. it may be working, not sure though.. because I am going as hard as possible with each arm.

it's not that big of an issue though because, the only real huge disparity in strength, is with overhead pressing.. other than that, my left doesn't lag too far behind my right in single arm bench or row.. but ya i'd rather push each one to it's 'limit' so that I get those extra possible benefits for non-dominant from strength increases in my dominant limb.

don't know what's up with my left arm and overhead pressing... it really is much weaker than my right.

peace

^^^Awesome idea.
I think i have killed my lifting ego for good, have done so many deloads to fix dorm, stopped partial squatting , stopped squat-mornings , sent my working load down to 60kg/132lbs in squats 3 times lately in perfecting form iterations. Most recent achievement, dropped RDLs working load from 252 to 176.
Now the bad news: I can't let my quad heal! I stretch it , i foam roll it , i rest it and when it stops bugging a few days i stop SMR and i push again and re-injure it. I have noticed it responds bad to 'volume' squatting, eg 3x5 , not the day that i squat but the next one, but i still don't change my squat schedule. I also go out and jump on concrete. Supposedly they are sub-maximal jumps but actually they are ME to the point i feel that if i push more i will strain it! WTF , i am carrying a slightly injured quad for over 5 months now!!!  :uhhhfacepalm:
MINIMIZE SQUATS TIME UNDER TENSION!!!
TOTALLY PHASE OUT JUMPS!!!
KEEP STRETCHING/FOAM ROLLING EVEN WHEN IT FEELS HEALED!!!
:pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:

damn..

ya the 'keep stretching' thing is important.. got to keep that tissue pliable or it just gets wrecked when it re-tightens.. i've had quite a few quads pulls growing up, had to stretch them like crazy for months.

it's so hard to stay submax on jumps, might not even be worth going to a court.. i know it's very hard for me to hold back.. maybe instead for a while  do some jumps in a pool or something, or box jumps etc.. something where you can completely control the environment.. if all you have is an 18" box, you won't be enticed to go ME.

actual leg extensions on a machine can really help with pulled quads too.. really light, slow and controlled. sometimes it's nice to isolate a damaged muscle, because during squats, other knee extensors could be overcompensating for the damaged one, which would result in the damaged one not being rehabbed properly. so you might think you're strengthening it, but in reality, you're not, because everything is learning to kick in and take over for it.

good post.

yeah its good advice. my head though doesn't work as well when I'm too amped up. I did not think I was hunched over but I must have been a little. However I feel like the main reason this happened was b/c the bar was too fat out in front. That's why lumbar spine rounded but didn't feel my thoracic area rounding as it would with 95%+ loads. 375 is more like 90% i'd say.

i know, that's why i created this thread:

http://www.adarq.org/injury-prehab-rehab-talk-for-the-brittlebros/anti-ego-lifting-support-thread-(aels)-save-a-joint-save-a-life

"my head though doesn't work as well when i'm too amped up", tell me about it..

Updates:
Got much worse in the morning. Could barely stand up. took a hot/cold shower, mostly hot, and I am comfortably standingup. I'm generally stiffer in the morning.

Also found it tough to find a comfortable position to sleep in. Sneezing too hard and coughing does aggravate area a bit. no leg pain but cannot extend leg far.

edit: but hey I wasn't ego lifting, really. I just like lifting really heavy...esp on deads if I feel like it. but yes there is truly no point unless it's a competition.

sucks man.

sheeeit.

Yeah that's what I was thinking... if I'm ever going to use them I'll use them high reps, and I was thinking about them possibly creating some imbalances but...

as long as the most effective compound exercises are your meat and potatoes, it's no problem to throw a few carrots or parsley into the mix.

winninks.

someone needs to gif him putting his hands down against the cage, and literally letting Stephan unload right hands.  Dude is special, he made that fight worth watching.

ya that was crazy.. i like his ideology: 'if im not fighting someone on my level, im going to make it very entertaining'.. he did the same thing with griffin, he entered the matrix in both fights.

he got 'tagged' a few times while slipping but bonnar couldn't put everything behind it, kind of like trying to put everything behind a punch on a double end bag.. silva is just a freak.

who the hell is he going to fight next? lmao

So we train and we train and we train.
We train or limit strength , our RFD , our quads , our P-chain, our mobility, our jumping technique efficiency bla bla bla...
We do weights , we do plyos , we do conditioning...
We bulk, we cut , we change programs and priorities , we just try to get down everything right and balanced.

He is killerjunior23's little brother , just 15 years old!!!  :o
I love seeing those natural highflyers. Kinda like nature's art...

i know right.. kid 'looks weak' right now but still hoppin.. kind of like his bro did early on.. then his brother got crazy strong and just jumps like a freak.

the only annoying thing is when the natural's try to lecture people on training.. "listen, you dont need to lift, all you need is more faith and ab workouts".

happens alot on facebook.

my current ego issue:

combining my SLRVJ prep with jogging has massively fatigued my lower back => STOP SLRVJ'n WHILE JOGGING UNTIL IT'S 100%.

work around:
1) continue jogging (without the SLRVJ prep)
2) incorporate SL box jumps instead

other than that, i'm doing pretty good.. i've been avoiding pushing the intensity on squat due to my anti ego lift protocol.. its simply nowhere near the appropriate time for me to go intense on squat. down the road, sure, but right now after coming off a 1 year training vacation, it would be absolutely idiotic for me to ego-squat.

thanks AELS!!!

hi, if you find yourself or someone else ego-lifting, do a quick post to keep yourself/someone in check, to prevent injury.

ego lifting, ego training, ego XYZ

out of everyone on here, i'm probably the most guilty of it.. 100 total walking lunges with 30 lb db's? i mean come on wtf?

some of us need extra help in defeating this mental monster who seeks to derail us.

14367
Today I decided to deadlift. My frequency is about 1ce every 2 weeks, not going too heavy anymore. Today I went near maximal and hunched oover in the lower back most likely during a pull.

So here is what happened and my symptoms based on my observations in sequential order.

375lbs x2 reps. sumo-ish, feet are slightly wider than shoulder width.

First rep, i felt myself using my back a little bit. Intensity is 100%, teeth-clenched, very aggressive energy.
2nd rep, I felt a tearing sensation in my lower back. mid way through the pull, probably just after the barbell crossed my knees on the way up. I did complete the rep, lowered it. ANd stood up, noticing sharp pain in the lumbar spine. Not enough pain to cause me to have to sit down or make a lot of faces. but definitely enugh to end my workout. Couldn't even deadlift 135 after that.

:(

ask yourself: what was the point deadlifting near-maximal allowing the back to round? your training has been going very well lately, why risk it with a hunched dl? if there's absolutely one exercise you want to avoid using bad form on, it's deadlift.

for general health/strength/development/athletics, i have no problem with deadlifting, HOWEVER, i think it should be done very strict... sacrificing "Very strict" would invalidate the lift.. people need to start thinking like this, to somehow defeat that innervoice/ego which is often times way too destructive, for what reason it is destructive, i have no idea, but it is.. massive run-on sentence but you get the point.

seriously, promise yourself that you won't ego lift on such a dangerous exercise in the future...

sucks man. hope it's just a little tweak & it's nothing serious.

ice up, relax, heal up.

Here are some things I can do sort of comfortable:
1. lunges, step ups
2. child's pose yoga
3. running very slowly causes some pain but it's not completely out of picture.

things that cause pain:
1. leaning backwards. I treid to do the inverted post in yoga that you do after child's pose, where the hip is hyperextended, and that is not possible. so I cannot hyperextend at the hip.
2. taking long strides while walking. when I walk I kind of have to stay on my forefoot. If I extend at the leg too much it causes pain.
3. toe-touch: standing there is abslutely now ay I can bend down to touch my toes. Unless I'm in the middle of a very cold shower. I have to squat down.
4. bending sideways while standing up: that exercise people do to train their obliques, that hurts. unless in cold shower than it's fine, haven't iced it yet I am preparing ice right now.

i think sitting down for toolong also makes it worse.

There is no leg pain. All pain is localized in one small area between L2-L4 unless it's not even in the spine. I read that leg pain is common in a herniated disk. legs feel very strong

Any ideas? Yes I know I need to see a doctor. workingon that.

stop messing with it until you've had a chance to sleep it off.. you'll get a better idea of how bad it really is, after you wakeup.

not a good idea to go through all of those positions when your natural pain killers are kicking in.. could do more damage without realizing it.

unfortunately, i replied too late so there goes that..

it's good that there's no leg pain/shooting pain down the leg, but, it's still too early to tell at this point.

that was one of the best brawls ive ever seen.

unbelievable.. rios's mental 'strength' is just out of this world.. he takes KO level bombs and walks back to his corner laughing, smiles the entire time while he's sitting there waiting for the next round.
