I'm just more excited about the camera lol. It's a Nikon s8100... my main motivation for buying it wasn't the video or picture qualty, but rather, the AUDIO quality. I wanted a camera that wouldn't distort from the loud bass when I go to trance events. I tested this one out on my friends Yamaha speakers, blasted the volume and subwoofer, and the thing picked up the bass clean as crystal on playback without distorting lol.

Can't wait to test it out at this Paul van Dyk gig in NYC in about 2 weeks.

haha nice.. my playsport zx3 audio seems to be weak, from my latest dunk vid i uploaded.. it has a weak sound, seems the bass is weak.


By weak bass, do you mean that the bass is too low in volume or that it can't handle the bass?

Oh, btw, i think the low bar squat translates a bit less to the VJ. However, since you can use more weight in the low-bar, it pretty much evens out. IMO you'd probably be at the same spot VJ-wise with either approach...

example:

A - After 3 years, Squat high-bar 405lbs at 200lbs bw and jump 30"
B - After 3 yeras, Squat low-bar 440lbs at 200lbs bw and jump 30"

Choose on preference.

well, i slightly disagree.. depends on how you actually perform the low bar/high bar squat.. if it's low bar PL, then i think it has less transfer regardless.. i feel squatting with more "forward knee shift" transfers better to svj/rvj.

Oh and I'm still confused about some stuff on RFD "vs" plyos. Like is there a need to do resisted RFD when you can just do plyos? I'm asking because plyos also increase explosive strength as well as elastic strength, and I feel like you'll get more bang for your buck doing an extra set of depth jumps versus a few sets of paused weighted jumps squats.

well I prefer reactive/plyos over traditional rfd work (jump squat, oly's), for sure, but traditional rfd work is more necessary for people who are interested in SVJ.

regardless, depth jumps can still improve SVJ.. other reactive work, for example, bounds & other rebounding drills, are less effective at increasing RFD without considerable preloading..

so, if you're more into RVJ (short run ups or full), then ya, you could definitely just focus completely on reactive work.. your more intense exercises would be:

- depth jumps & single leg bounds

Accessory reactive work would be:
- MR drills (half tucks, pogos, double leg bounds)
- jump rope/sprints

so, when it comes to generating forces without considerable preload, oly's/jump squats/rea squat etc will yield more gains.

In fact, Donny did this at one point. He was squatting about 250kg back squat, 230kg front squat, deadlifting about 250kg also, and had a 200kg clean. A bit after he got to California, he decided to really concentrate on strength, squatting and deadlifting, and cut back his practice on the Olympic lifts. He gained a bit of weight even... and got his back squat to 300kg, his front squat to 260kg, and his deadlift to 300kg. And he was still cleaning 200kg.

The point I think athletes should take from this is if over prioritizing the squat results in no progress or even regression for olympic weightlifters what's it going to result in for you as someone training for more general athletics?

"athletes (jumpers, sprinters, bball/football/soccer etc)" who take out reactive work/sport skill work in favor of getting "stronger in the basic barbell lifts" are doing themselves a big disservice..

this goes back to another thread we have on here, posted in it recently.. if you focus so much of your effort on squat, after you've put in a shitload of work (experienced intermediate/advanced lifter), the ability to maintain a "fast 1rm speed" is crucial.. adding 50kg to squat won't matter as much if the time to complete that lift increases considerably.
