Introduce Yourself / Re: sup everyone
« on: October 13, 2010, 04:27:53 am »
Sup everyone, my name is Martin (some friends call me guga). Ive been surfing the forum for over a month reading the journals and the funny theards (sexy pics, off topic and some of the hilarious crap that adarqui posts) but I was too lazy and too weak to register ( I wanted to increase my numbers a little bit first lol). Why I train, because my dream has always been being able to dunk hahaha.

welcome man!!!

So I guess that Im gonna add my stats and training background here and also on a journal.

Current stats.

Age: 26 (fuk)
Height: 5'11
BW: 150-152lbs
Squat (oct-2-2010): did 85kg x 6 reps (190lbs) (left 2, maybe 3 on the tank) so I guess my max is around 105kg (230lbs.. yeah it sucks badly).
Current VJ/CMJ: 24"
Current 2 leg running VJ: 26"

PRs
Squat around the same number maybe 5kg+
VJ: 26"
2 leg running VJ: 28" (crappy explosiveness even when at that time I was feeling smooth on my jumps)

well, you're not too far off your pr's, so make a good push & stay consistent, improving your strength / getting in max jumps, you'll get past those in no time.

Training background.

Ive been training (if you can call that training) for 5 years. Yes, only 1.5xbw crappy. Used to do only ATG Squats (I mean going downnnnn, not breaking parallel). At the beginning I was making quick gains, but at a certain poin, the lack of quality food (im skinny) didnt let me improve anymore, in short resume I was getting strong, then loosing weight (muscle mass ofc). so I got stuck.

At the beginning of 2010 I stopped lifting since I lost my motivation and I didnt lift for 4-5 months, then I bitch slapped me to stop being a pussy and started to lift again now taking more notice about my diet and adding supplements since a was lacking on proteins (using whey now). Still not as motivated as before but lifting. Now Im squatting parallel since I think it helps more with the force absorption, that is something that I always lacked when I was jumping (I just can jump at my max tacking 2-3 relaxed steps, not from a run).

have you ever done anything like MR tuck jumps/pogos/depth drops for improving your force absorption?

Since there isnt a single decent gym at my city I bought my own stuff to train at home (I havent found a gym with a squat rack) and I only have pins so I cant squat till failure.

I rarely train my upper body, well I do pull ups and push ups two times a week, sometimes some tricep/bicep.

I guess is too much shit for an intro.

it's alright man just look forward, forget the past.. btw, still improve strength on upper, even if it's just weighted pushups/dips/chins/pullups, it helps.

peace man

workout: dunk session, caff'd up hardcore!
- drove 45 minutes to a court that should be open until 11pm based on the website (FAU outside courts), got there at 9:50, lights were already off.. fml

Yo I HATE it when that shit happens! You heard of Kevin Billerman? He coached FAU men's bball from 1995-1999. He now coaches a hs team in NC

nope never heard of him.. ya i ended up going to bed at 8:30am cause of those stupid shits not keeping the lights on.

And caffeine??

Anyways, nice vid man. You build an atmosphere.

Is there any video surveillance in that parking building? Just wondered what the manager might think seeing you crazying it at night,

haha nah i checked, nothing out in the open anyway, no cams.. which is odd because there is a bank right next to it, although it's 2 stories high, i'm 4 stories up... no cams though from what i've seen, eventually there will be once an incident happens, reactive vs proactive.

it's safe up there though, i like it on parking garages, cool scenery too for a vid like that.. it's almost doom-like.

pc!

Great atmosphere in that video. The clouds and music and your stance go really well together, good shit.

My only problem is the implications of there being 6 Andrew Darquis. The world can only support so much bumness.

haha

i wish i wouldnt have messed up the close up footage, that shit woulda looked evil.

Unfortunately, I only have an audio and still pics...but in order to provide "proof" that I'm actually the one in the vid, I've included a "review" http://www.cvnc.org/reviews/2004/may/RSOFuture.html from the classical voice of nc...I'm mentioned briefly in the 3rd to last paragraph; they misspell my name as Sreeniker Ram instead of Sreeniket Ram, lol...

It was back in 2004, when I was 16 and I still played bball, could dunk a tennis ball, and wasn't on anti-depressants lol...

dayum :)

Thanks everybody!

I tried hangtiming those and shit was weird. I got 25 frames for first jump and 27 for second jump (outdoor dunks). I know there are a lot of variables there but 27 frames = .891 seconds = 38.25" LOL. Idk but I think I'm above 34 on those two so I'll call those pr's.

i'll try to hangtime them later. ;)

bw = 154 (bananas, literally !!)
soreness = hamstrings a little (still), chest a little still
aches/injuries = felt pretty good
fatigue = low

workout: dunk session, caff'd up hardcore!
- drove 45 minutes to a court that should be open until 11pm based on the website (FAU outside courts), got there at 9:50, lights were already off.. fml

video-shoot:
- went to parking garage & shot some footage for my vid.. vid seems to be coming out alright but man filming by yourself sucks, too far zoomed out in the cam, so, had to zoom in with vid editor and that loses quality.. also messed up a closeup with me and my rambo knife.
- cool shit.. i was holding my rambo knife grilling camera, taking really deep breathes, and after like 20 or so i started shaking, shit got crazy, cant see it on cam, but glutes/legs/body was shaking, like i was ready to kill something.. i had to hold this position + breathing for 3 minutes so it got kinda nutty.. hardly blinked either, thought i'd get good closeup on cam but too far out.

workout #2:
- 3:10am - 4:00am : 10, 15, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 10, 10, 10, 10 = 265 tot
- hamstring iso: 1, 1, 1, 1,
- calf raise: 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20,

might upload video tonight, dno, i'm still amped up from taking so much caffeine today & not really working out good.. sucks (6:51am)

after rendering the vid, see a few things i need to fix.. vid came out pretty cool though.. will fix those things tomorrow and upload.

700 lb deadlift =  :o

props, that is one of the best deadlifts based on age/weight on youtube ever, pretty sure of it.

you're reaching for the rim on dj's right?

Wrong! :D
I do DJs in my house , and the ceiling is low ( about 8'6'' ) so all i can do is head-height jumps.

oooh, i may have asked that before, forgive me if i forgot :)  cool, ya video analysis would be best.. i remember seeing some really weird vert measuring device, which hooked some kind of tape measurer to your waist, but i don't see how that could work due to horizontal displacement.. was odd, need to find the link for it again one day, i've never seen anyone use it anywhere.

Went to the gym today just to move around some, roll a lot and stretch a lot.

Shoot hoops x 20-25 mins -- money in the bank, shorty whatcha drank. Could not miss.
EDIT: Interspersed were ~15 DLRVJs -- best was about 30.5", most 29.5-30, pretty weak, was thinking about the runup too much
jump rope incl double unders practice -- totaled about 50 double unders and a bunch more stuff
row x 2000m, easy if inconsistent pace, ~8:30

SMR x25-30 mins
stretch x15 mins

Felt nice.

hahaha lol'd.

Thought I would post this here because this is a huge achievement for me, 2+ years in the making.

The rim outside is ~9'8. When I first started training for vert in late summer of 2008 I could not even touch the 9'8 rim, I was probably about 3-4 inches away. So now, over 2 years later, I have thrown down my first dunks on that rim so it is a huge deal to me. It seems surreal to me that I am less than 4 inches away from dunking on a 10' rim. Before I started training for vert I could only get about the top knot on the net.

Vert for indoor session is probably about 33", outdoor session was at least 34" I would say, but not positive.

Special thanks to adarq for all the help with training, wouldn't be getting up this high without him. Also thanks to everyone on here who has encouraged me.

GO GET IT

topic stickied.. very happy for you arowe, that is some serious improvement over 2 years, you should be proud you hung in there and achieved this goal... i have no doubt you will throw one down just as hard on 10' if you keep going.

glad i could be of help along the way too!

peace man!
