400m Sprinting or Shorter / Re: Casey Combest

Only vid I could find. He does some hops in it that are crazy springy and you can tell he's not even trying that hard. He looks like he shot out of a cannon at the start and his reaction time is insane.

sick, ill have a vid up on my youtube in a little bit which has his record run etc.. that vid had disappeared for a while, found the link through your link.

word thanks!

Actually on the standing broad jump test I have had several long/triple jumpers do really well, mainly due to the fact that they are so much better at landing mechanics and stay in the air longer than the football/basketball athletes.  (eg hitch kick mechanics etc.) But yea, the actual power production is not as high, they are just better at the test, just like the football guys I have who have mastered the 40yd dash techniques and beat some of the sprinters at the 40, when in reality the sprinters are usually faster (even at the 40) they just arent as good at the skills of the test yet.  After mastering the start and other 40yd specific techniques, they usually dominate the football guys.

really good point about the landing mechanics of the broad jump for long jumpers/triple jumpers.

i for example, have really bad landings on broad jump, way too high & feet too close to my COG..

my broad jump is < 100" if i don't train it.. it can get to around 104" when I start training it.

pretty bad yup.

maybe you should train it

but are there any correlation between broad jump and long jump?

broad jump is too hard on my knees, for me to train it all the time.. if i do say 3-4 x 5 and land deep, I don't like the aches I get.. i just have to get more powerful in the glutes/hams and just let that strength transfer over without training it..

I prefer double leg bounds for distance, it adds that reactive component which I love so much :)

well, long jump is so reactive that I see the correlation being low... I could definitely see a bunch of those top long jumpers having pretty shitty broad jumps when compared to say, and NFL db.

so just like standing jump and running vertical jump....i think people like in TFB have insane running but could have crappy standing right??

yup, pretty similar.. i would imagine most long jumpers have crappy standing broad jumps, just like most high jumpers have crappy standing vertical jumps.

only guy on TFB with a good standing vert would be troy mccray, everyone else relies on fast runups.. yup.

if Adarqui was that cool every1 in the world would be on his forum

i will be that cool one day, check my journal, i'm workin' :D

42-45" RVJ & 4.40 40 yard dash will make this forum unmanageable :D

I WILL BE THAT COOL.

yea but you also have to have 2 honey badgers as pets...remember the animals thread

i cuddle with them shits.

It's really great that you're doing something like this. Props

thanks man. just trying to do my part in fixing this 'journals go nowhere' issue we see for the most part on forums.

other coaches need to open up their training more, show detailed journals of their athletes, so that we can all progress this damn s&c like it should be.

peace man!

peace!

question adarq, will i be doin any drills that might improve my actual jumping abit?

not really.. we're just going to be doing lots of jumping and jump-assistance exercises like the low-level reactive work.. your jump isn't as bad as you think it is, form wise, you just need to jump maximally more and your form will come together better.

i'll see if i can post a vid up, but i feel that im lacking somethin... just think that i should have been able to go up at least a few inches more.. :/

where's your vid you posted, of your jumps? i want to check it out again, it's buried somewhere in your journal.. :)

Heavier lunges next time?

ya im pretty sure i should just keep progressing until i cant hit 400 each leg with whatever weight.. or until that soreness becomes very extreme..

surprisingly my quads are not sore at all after those lunges sessions.. hamstrings are usuall less sore than glutes.. so that's a good sign you know? i should really push the intensity and maintain the volume until im taxing my strength/recovery capacity fully, imo.

peace man

Sounds like a cool plan. My quads are never spre from lunges. Always only hams and glutes.

they (quads) were extremely sore the first few times i did 400.. but they adapted pretty well.. i'd expect some soreness honestly, i'm surprised there is none after 10lb db's, which is 20 lb total BW.. who knows maybe 40 lb total BW will hit them, dno though, doubt it.

ps: im glad i dont have any quad soreness, don't want any either.. I want only one day soreness from these sessions, mostly glute & ham.. so it should be interesting as I progress the weights, to see how much soreness I get.

Whats the idea of these though? Indestructible hamstrings?

to somehow build legs that thor would be jealous of.

i figure i've spent 25 years of my life not stimulating my glutes/hamstrings, so i have alot of work to do.. walking lunges allow me to recover between reps as i alternate legs, yet still really hit the musculature very hard each session.. my legs have been growing pretty good since i've been doing them with just bodyweight, so using weight will help me really put some significant mass on my glutes/hams, and even quads even though they aren't experiencing DOMS etc.. beyond that, it also is a great conditioning workout, i mean my fitness/work capacity has increased a ton in the last few months.. my unilateral strength feels ridiculously high.

so ya just overall conditioning/strength/mass.. the number seems high, i agree, but the results are exactly what i'm after, a combo of conditioning + strength + mass all in one..

peace man

Sounds great.Could this be used to loose weight? Like instead of jogging or riding a bike?

well a session definitely could be used to burn a ton of kcal ya, but you just couldn't really do it every day.. i wouldn't advice that, could be too much for the hips/knees, even tho mine feel fine, every day could become problematic.

yo im out!

gn folks!
