Check out how much you bend over forward when you're doing KB swings... that's what I do when I jump (that's what I FEEL like doing, but I have to actively think to look at the rim to prevent that).

Core strength and stability imo. Collapsing at the waist is wasted energy.

I always thought it's a matter of weak quads, so the body wants to recruit the posterior chain more by bending foward and putting tension on the hamstrings/glutes more and relieve the tension off the quads. But it could be so many things.

I don't get how people maintain such a vertical back when jumping off two... I always have to bend forward at the hips to jump, and almost look to the ground. That's why I'm thinking maybe it would be a good idea for me to do front squats/high bar squats with a more vertical back.

Is it just a matter of lack of quad strength?

Right. Very high RFD. And to think his vert wasn't that great when he started.(6'1" ish/couldn't dunk) Insane improvement and should be huge motivation for all on this forum!!!

I went in the park today with a guy that trained with me, played with me etc for so many years... and he was like "you don't bend AT ALL when you jump off two feet" and he said "I look like I have a ton of potential in my one leg jump still, because I look so "stiff" when jumping off one, but stiff in a bad way".

And he's right. It's good to see Jordan here and think about where I'm at now. But I'm 28 though.

I fully subscribe to what vag said.

Usually when you're going DOWN in terms of performance (not usually, ALWAYS) it's because of overtraining. There's not enough time to actually lose muscle mass that fast, so it's the CNS fatigue.

So if you're there, then you need to recover better.

If your squat is going up but your jumps are going down, then you're just not recovered well enough after the squat when you do the jumps, but you're not overtrained (since your squats are going up). If both are going down, then you're overtrained.
