Cartwheels looking pretty sweet.

Have you tried bailing from a wall based handstand? Much easier and might give you the feedback that you need. Also, I dare say that if you can't hold a freestanding handstand then any bailing is going to look kind of ugly.

good point about not being able to hold a freestanding one. i can, a little bit, but can't really kick into it consistently. think i need to just treat handstand bailing as kicking into a freestanding handstand and then coming out of it under control rather than the weird quasi-cartwheel thing i've been treating it as.

- some cartwheel and handstand bailing practice
latter remains ugly. have video now of what my default looks like.

199 and 32" waist is impressive. how lean are you?

great workout. strong crow. widened grip on second set and it was straight-up easy, i could read the newspaper out loud in that position. progress on handstand bailing because i sacked up and just started kicking harder, closer to what i'll need for a freestanding handstand. still not good but better. got first freestanding handstand as well, during wall-facing out on the fourth rep i didn't make contact with the wall on the kick. held for a few seconds. got a little sloppy after that because i was chasing the dragon, lol. figured out a workable set-up for kip-ups-to-sit, as well. still a little tough on the tailbone at times but not so much so that i can't do them. they are still very much a work in progress.

just wanted to add something to what everyone else is saying: it's incredible what a community you've created on here, andrew. like, when i step back and think about the fact that i have friends that i've never met face-to-face but that i've known for years just through this forum -- in some cases longer than i've known close "real" life friends! -- it boggles my mind a little bit. not just training buddies, either, but people who go through shit on here: chris with his wife and kids, me going through a break up and moving thousands of miles, taylorhorton trying to decide whether to go to college or not, eric and his job shit, avishek going from batshit crazy to only a little bit crazy. that connection is the biggest reason i still keep my journal on here, long after it stopped being a forum with a lot of active coaching. and i can't help but believe that your mom, who helped raise you to be the man you are, gets a lot of credit for this community's existence. we all owe her some thanks.

i never met her, but i'm your friend, and so i'm grieving with you this week, from the other side of the world.

why not try again with same weight next equivalent workout? if you fail again, then reset. but if you were close, you might just get it next time.

i don't know, i kind of question postural purism and feel like bodies can within reason have all sorts of default postures and still function fine. when we met i didn't notice anything glaringly off in the way you stand or move.

plus, posture is complicated. to me it seems like it's better to pic a few areas where you're restricted and just work away at them patiently, rather than trying to fix posture as a means, if that makes sense. let your posture be what it is but keep working on this and that and it will improve on its own.

personally, i'm a bit swaybacked, in mild APT, have forward head posture especially when sitting, asymmetrically tight hips, hilariously bad right shoulder internal rotation, etc. etc. etc. etc. but i'm working mainly on my wrists and shoulders right now because hand balancing is a big part of my training.  if i were you i'd keep plugging away on your shoulders, pick two shoulder opening exercises and just do them super consistently, and patiently. GMB has a couple of good videos for that on their youtube channel, iirc.
