yeah the haze was extra burly yesterday. i'm still sick today, slept very badly last night in part because i was so uncomfortable. hard time swallowing, congested.

3332
ACHES/INJURIES: throat raw af
SORENESS: none
MENTAL STATE: good

- run x 3.9km in 20:43 (5:19/km; 8:32/mile pace)
went with the snowflake (adarq and whoever has found me on fb: the blond from the puppy pics) and followed her pace. very easy. knees felt surprisingly awesome, no discomfort anywhere except my throat feels like someone sandpapered it.

- stretch

a thought: those are either super long workouts, or you're committing to multiple workouts per day. personally i've never been able to sustain multiple workouts per day, even a couple of days per week, for more than a few weeks. life just gets in the way, i get derailed, and then i say fuck it. skipping feels bad and is demotivating. much easier for me to commit to fewer workouts and then do them really consistently.

that's just my n=1, but you might have an easier time staying on your grind if you're a little less ambitious. forget about the running, for example, and just do something like:

day 1: push day, walk x 60 mins
day 2: bike x 30-60 mins
day 3: pull day, walk x 60 mins
day 4: bike x 30-60 mins
day 5: squat, walk x 60 mins
day 6: rest or bike/walk if you feel like it
day 7: rest or bike/walk if you feel like it

- some feldenkrais

- wrist mobility

now i am sick. bummer.

3336
ACHES/INJURIES: none
SORENESS: none
MENTAL STATE: great

- warm up

- DB jump squat +10s x 5,5

- ME SVJ x 3,3
felt really explosive, no idea how high i was getting

- squat 120 x 5,5
feels a bit rusty but this is not a challenging weight. slowly but surely.

- bench 80 x 5
the bench setup is so dumb, only two pins and they're both the wrong height for me, and the lower one gets blocked by the upper when unracking/racking the bar. right thumb felt weird so didn't do second set.

- kroc row 32 x 18L/18R

- hyper x 15,15

- some TTB and KTE

- stretch

this felt sooo good.

there were about 20 people in the marathon, i think. mostly pakistanis and a few germans.

gymnastic stuff hasn't seized me at all -- partly because my wrist is fuxored -- and my schedule is too erratic at night to make frequent gym-going a thing. but i could run in the mornings and go to the gym a couple of times a week just to keep strength up. on the road would have to do jump rope but that's cool.

following your basically linear improvement has been really fun. makes me want to run. in my one truncated (by the DC sniper) year of HS xc, i think my PR was around 20:30. but i was a (1) a wuss and (2) didn't take it seriously. wonder what i could run now if i gave myself some time to ease into it. one of our sister agencies sponsored a multi-distance event in the mountains this past summer, would be dope to run in the 5k race next year: http://yumtoyikes.com/2016/07/05/hunza-marathon-pakistan/. there were only two 5k participants, one man and one woman, and the guy ran 25:xx. in fairness, hunza is over 8,000 feet above sea level and mountainous as hell.

if they hold it at the same time next year i'll be in the states, but if i'm here then that could be awesome. going on a couple of these hikes has also made me want to run: trail running > road running.

go get 17:59.

glad you're okay. i actually met a dude from pigeon forge at a party last weekend. super random, he's an electrician working at the embassy because they fly americans over for sensitive work -- intelligence/security issue. wish i'd gotten his number so i could text him asking if his fam is safe.

cheaper than allen edmonds, quality is as good, shoes look better. meermin are probably the cheapest dress shoes you should buy.

pretty sure that is the longest i'd gone without squatting since 2009. kept it reeeeally conservative, but that's okay. felt so good.

EDIT: afternoon

- hike x 2 hours
no idea how far we went. pretty gentle pace. gorgeous day. culminated in finding two litters of tiny puppies (one of labs and one of german shepherds) in the park and blissing out for another hour.
