WEIGHT: 170.8 (one of my blessings: can go on a week vacation and, without trying, not gain any weight)
SORENESS: right bicep (DOMS from bowling!)
ACHES/INJURIES: right knee, right ankle
MENTAL STATE: okay

- warm up

- SVJ x 3
30.5,<30,<30

- DLRVJ x 10
very bad (~33) until i started sprinkling in some SLRVJ from each side. then still bad but not as bad (34.5). messed with SLRVJ approach and adding a little curve seemed to help. was thinking about that dude ross whatever who overpronates on his SL plant.

- multi-touch x 8,8,8

- MB OH toss x 5,3
turrible, could only graze ceiling at best and missed on a few throws.

- squat 255 x 1,1
ankle and knee not pleased

- RDL 135 x 10,10
at this point had just decided to go through the motions and get out

- pull up x 8

- DB OHP 40s x 8

- decline sit up x 20

wack. but okay, don't feel bad about it.

Shoes / Re: A shoe specifically for dunking
« on: August 29, 2016, 05:49:26 pm »
i know i've said it before but IMHO lotto quaranta is currently the best substitute. they're 7.7 ounces -- not quite 5 but still a lot lighter than any other tennis or bball shoe i've ever seen -- have flat and wide soles and are reasonably stiff.

not saying a dunk-specific shoe wouldn't be better but quarantas aren't bad. and they're cheap, ~$40.

yeah we'll see about the nagging injuries. sitting for so long hurts my right knee and i also banged my ankle in the surf at one point. oh well.

in other news, i got my visa no-objection from the ministry of interior! now i've just got to submit the visa application and set a moving date. holy shit.

the high temp in DC today was 96, the high humidity was 88%. currently it's 4:30, 94 degrees and 39% humidity.

i do seriously think about moving to LA or somewhere else when i come back from pakistan.

Progress Journals & Experimental Routines / Re: FP's log
« on: August 29, 2016, 04:22:17 pm »
yeah FP is right, ultimate isn't exactly like football in that way. play is continuous, and conservative man d (i.e. keeping the disc in front of you by not always committing all-out to underneath cuts) can be a good strategy especially against a non-elite team, which is likelier to make a throwing or cutting error on a relatively short throw. everything is different in a zone, but it sounds like FP's team was playing mostly man. the punishment for getting beat deep is severe because it means the receiver has an open throw and that the rest of the D is momentarily out of position. the punishment for getting beat under is generally just that you have to mark and that you didn't get a turnover.

not to say that selling out on d is never called for on an in-cut -- it is, and a block coming back toward the disc often leads to a quick point -- just that the relationship between defender and cutter is different than between WR and CB.

also, fwiw, i'll second FP's analysis of his own mark: it's good. he's long and gets low and wide and moves laterally pretty well. i was never an elite handler and already had years of rust accumulated when we threw around last year, but i'm not a schlub and he was able to get some good blocks.

Try 35'C + 70% humidity, it's a nightmare, all you want to/can do is hide indoors with A/C at full blast!

otherwise known as a typical summer day in washington, dc.

Progress Journals & Experimental Routines / Re: ADARQ's journal
« on: August 28, 2016, 09:34:53 pm »
fwiw part of why it took me so long to get to my goal is because i did go off on so many tangents. i did starting strength, i did smolov jr, i did lots of bootcamps/crossfit early on, i spent a summer focusing on sprints and even entered a couple of races where i came face to face with my own slowness. it's not the only reason: traveling even with the moderate frequency that i do interrupts training and i'm also injury-prone. but the few burts of progress i have made were when first adarq and then t0ddday wrote me programs and i did them without thinking, except to (as t0ddday said) allow myself not to push myself to the point of getting hurt.

shout out to kellyb/VJB, too, i made some progress on that too when i first started on this journey.

nick ross's foot overpronates so much on the plant it's ridic. looks like he should be spraining his ankle every time but he gets so much power out of it. amazing.

also, on the NFL players vid, i think cole beasley is 5'8.

just got home from week at beach. came back via charlotte for my grandpa's 90th birthday, which was awesome, and visiting my brother, which was great to do but less awesome. something like 17 hours in the car over two days.

beach=heaven.

i played tennis at least once every day but one and did variants of the daily routine four of the days. parents and brother and brother's gf joined, which was really fun.

gotta stretch and roll before bed so i don't wake up feeling all janky.

also, football is here.
