JAKE ROBERTSON

AUTOGRAPH

BOOM.

12/12/2018 was an awesome day.

Quote
Received some special signed photos from one of my favorite people on IG, and literally one of my favorite photographers: Foon Fu (📷 @ufnoof). Long story short: I come home after my mile race Wednesday night, elated from a race PB effort, open the mail, read the note and see the photos, then reach elation overflow. What a day 😎
.
This is a signed photo of one of my favorite athletes of all time, Jake Robertson (@jake_robertson_htbz), probably taken by @ufnoof around February 2018, when Jake was preparing for the Lake Biwa Marathon (#lakebiwa). That's when i was first introduced to Fu's photography, and have been hooked ever since. I get amp'd up every time a photo from @ufnoof pops up on my feed, which is usually obvious from my reactions lmao. Seriously, he's dropped so many gems. He knows how to just transport you into someone elses effort while simultaneously capturing nature and the environment, from such an interesting and unique perspective. it's on another level IMHO. Absolutely love it.
.
His photos of Jake, his bro Zane (also one of my fav athletes), and their crews training in Kenya, and Jake racing in Toronto are especially stunning. 👽👌
.
Seriously man, thanks so much, really means alot! I'll thank you in person one day, and we'll get a run in!! #gratitude. Will post Merber's photo shortly!

sick plan. traveling to other places rules.

thanks! hah. yea you know alot about that. :ninja: :highfive:

i'd like to slowly get better at it.

racing has def helped me get out of some "comfort zones". need to keep it going.

plus, traveling inside the US will prepare me a bit more for a Kenya trip eventually.

the two times you left florida, where did you go?

drove with my mom up to Washington DC when I was a kid (~10?). saw lots of monuments, smithsonian etc.

also as a kid (~12?), took a train with my mom up to Pennsylvania to visit her friend (only time I saw snow).

both trips were pretty fun :D

peace!

So i think I know what I want to do in 2019:

1) keep focusing on my mile, exclusively
2) stay consistent with "strength" -> add leg/hip mass, need the power & the mass to keep me leaner
3) race less
4) focus on bigger sessions rather than smaller more frequent ones etc: I need to improve my "repeat strength" (ie, several fast 1km to 1 mile repeats, in one session)
5) get better at executing race strategies, need more practice at executing "smarter" strategies so that when i'm in big races I can hit peak numbers
6) get better at sharpening up for the big races

And then if I do all of that, it's prep for 2020:

Race more throughout the US instead of locally: hit the big mile races throughout the US, also some big open / masters track races!

One thing i've never really done is "travel". i've been outside of Florida like uh.. twice. I've also never been on a plane (lmfao).

So, racing has already made it exciting for me to travel locally, ie 2-4 hours away for a race. I've enjoyed it. So, if i'm prepared (running strong & fast) would be nice to go do some of the big races throughout the US: go there, race, then hangout for a day or two, try to eat some good food lol.

I dno .. It's something completely different but, it's making sense to me. It'll also make me sharpen up for some higher level racing.

If you look at how I prepared just to run 1km with elites on November 18th, I started late (September-ish) but then really cranked it up/focused throughout October, into November. Basically, I need to focus on my speed as a #1 priority, and build it slowly throughout the entire year, not just late homework assignment style. I think it's easier for me to do that now though, since i've settled on the mile being my most important distance. I learned a ton this year.. I know what works & what doesn't, for the most part. I also have a better understanding of my strengths & weaknesses.

In addition to simply traveling to race, I think it'll also help me "dream bigger". Dreaming big is important to me. For the last few years i've been focused only on local races. That's cool, but I need to know that there's some much bigger races I need to prepare for, and really turn it up mentally, pro up, etc.

gn!!

rest day. legs = destroyed.

good news: hamstring/glute ache = gone!
bad news: it's gone because my legs are insanely sore.

nice.. this technique has worked for me quite a few times. right glute/hamstring/quad are much more sore than left, which might be related to the "weakness" causing the "ache".

one good sign .. hamstrings are not nearly as sore as quads/glutes. also, adductors aren't sore at all so far, that's rare for me (when doing high volume lunges). that small bout of ~3 days in a row of high volume hypers might have helped the hamstrings a bit, to prepare them for this.

12/14/2018

<= 4:59 mile vs <= 2:59 km:
- 12 (sub5) + 15 (sub3) = 27 of 50, 23 to go!

top3 finishes:
2018: 29/43 (stay healthy!)
2017: 6/12
2016: 4/10
2015: 0/2
2006: 0/1

diet:
- 10:30 AM: orange juice, 2 x banana, french bread + irish butter, water
- 02:00 PM: coconut cashew fat coffee drink, chocolate popcorn (was so good), water
- 05:00 PM: 2 x banana, water
- 08:30 PM: french bread + irish butter, 2 x southwest egg rolls w/ sour cream, water
- 12:00 AM: orange juice, 2 x banana

hope to get in some very light recovery runs tomorrow.

gn!

the dictionary argument doesn't work, that's the annoying thing. when we were in botswana she tried to convince me that adverbs only modify verbs, and not, say, adjectives. to her they should only modify verbs because adverb has the word "verb" in it. while that's a compelling explanation of how she reached her incorrect conclusion, it does not make her correct.

teh fuck.

the idea of having a personal definition for a word that is different -- narrower -- than the widely accepted definition of that word drives my pedantic self up the wall.

that'd piss me off too.. lol.

i had a similar thing with a librarian woman on FB, over the definition of meat, which she wasn't accepting.. but she's a librarian. she stopped talking to me over that. lmfao.

also, my dad doesn't like rap but he's definitely impressed with good rap/rappers. due to his music background, he notices skill that most people don't, that I can't even remember to mention here lol. i'm talking about rap itself though, not necessarily the beats. he doesn't care about the beats much, he's honing in on the actual rap & how they string words/verses together & rap to the beat with precision in ways that can get pretty complex. some rap beats are really solid too though, alot going on there, and even more legit from a "music purist" point of view when it's a live band.

also, he comes from a jazz background. his dad thought jazz wasn't music.. his dad was one of those "classical folks" (his generation).

i def get annoyed when people add their bias to it.. you don't have to like it, but you really have to acknowledge what it is, IMHO.

so i can see how you (LBSS) would get annoyed at that kind of "argument". lol.

my gf has a weird tendency, when she doesn't like things, to declare them not the thing that they are. for example, rap is "not music" to her because she doesn't like it. except some songs, which she does like. but nevertheless she defends her position that rap is "not music" to her, whatever anyone else's definition of music might be. this drives me crazy.

anyway she asked me to make her a playlist of rap songs to "open her mind" and i quickly ended up back in freshman year of college, listening to the pretty toney album with my roommate. what a great record.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8SrtszAeNU" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8SrtszAeNU</a>

smh @ "rap is not music" :(

have you linked her to dictionary definitions etc? that's usually what i do. i don't even debate i just link to definitions.

Vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.

rap seems to qualify.

"beauty" is obviously subjective. some people find death metal beautiful. I don't, but it's music. their brains actually interpret it differently than my brain, iv'e seen studies on it. lool.

if someone wanted examples of rap being "music", i'd probably refer them to mos def or common .. more of an "intellectual rap" with some incredible sounds.

respiration maybe

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeTnog5RRQo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeTnog5RRQo</a>

or how about just live bands with a rap DJ like DJ Premier?

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvn20PjBa3k" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvn20PjBa3k</a>

can't see how anyone can debate that rap isn't music.. LMFAO. :derp: :uhhhfacepalm:
