Stuff is looking good! Either PR'ing or PR level for mostly everything (including strength and dynamic stuff wow) but trying not to cause y'know.. hypertrophy phase lol. It's a tough balance between maintaining athletic qualities and focusing on improving one particular thing (hypertrophy in this case).

"hypertrophy" is underrated. bb gets a bad rep in athlete s&c. i did tons of hypertrophy work (for legs) prior to peaking vert, loved the way i felt from it.

Quote
Stuff that needs more focus: glutes, dec situps. Horizontal and vertical pulls seem to be responding the best to this style of training, although I might have been a little preferential towards it cause I keep having benching problems. Pretty beat up, can't wait to deload in the middle of next week and that will be the end of hypertrophy, moving into strength.

Quote
Trying to quit my shitty janitorial job and get into personal training. Kind of tough to do both so I'm gonna go part-time with my job and study for a certification while trying to gather some clients.

that makes sense. i'm sure you'd love training people, especially in the advanced s&c realm. it'd always be great to have some certs etc in that field, so you can even do it on the side eventually if you want to -> selectively work with some elite athletes and such, who knows. good to have in the back pocket that's for sure.

Quote
edit: so apparently my 2-yr old PCL tear might be affecting me more than previously thought. Was doing Hammer strength SL leg press partials and noticed my left knee was extremely shaky when I pushed the ROM (it was a little more than a quarter squat). This ROM occurs every time I plant in front of my body to change direction hard, so it is plausible that some of my change of direction difficulties come from this injury. Need to definitely address this

damn that sucks.

hard speed and long.

+

mod speed and long!

MASSIVE PR! :personal-record: :personal-record: :personal-record:

10/28/2018

<= 4:59 mile vs <= 2:59 km:
- 9 (sub5) + 8 (sub3) = 17 of 50, 33 to go!

top3 finishes:
2018: 26/35 (stay healthy!)
2017: 6/12
2016: 4/10
2015: 0/2
2006: 0/1

diet:
- orange juice/rxbar before AM session
- almonds, orange juice, rxbar after session
- broccoli/cauliflower/yam stir fry + orange chicken
- second workout
- more orange juice, rxbars, bananas etc

08:00 AM: workout: hard speed (1050m @ 3:05 / 4:47 min/mi, 1km @ 2:58) + light long (1 hr @ 10:XX to 7:0X) ::: (grass, spikes, quads dead, temperature = incredible, headwind = brutal)

omfg at this weather. yesterday was absolutely awful. today was amazing (first real cool day since spring). hopefully there will be more of this to come.

quads pretty sore.. kinda nuts considering i didn't really do anything yesterday. maybe i'm just not used to roads anymore, and they beat me up.

that wind was really brutal.. potentially a deceptively good 1km, especially with dead quads.

well that's crazy - ENORMOUS PB: 2 mile @ 10:36 (5:18 = 5:15 + 5:21) -> first time going under 11:03... (grass, spikes, pitch dark, legs kinda dead) :: Abraham Kiptum inspired.

- 2 mile: 10:36 / 5:18 min/mi (-27s) :personal-record:
- 3000m: 9:54 (-26s) :personal-record:

i've been in search of sub11 for nearly 2 years - and just crushed it.

also massive 3000m PR: 9:54 (-26s), sub10

i basically turned a dead-leg mile into a 2 miler. halfway through the first mile I was like ok, this is stale, let me just hold it for 2 miles. and it worked. was rough but mostly mentally. felt pretty good.

will write more later maybe.

oh ya, weather was amazing today/tonight. finally cooled off.. was like ~70F tonight, 68F this morning, low humidity. That's amazing running weather for SFL.. lmao.

cool about the indian race. india's a hot country with a billion-plus people in it, stands to reason there would be a lot of naturally talented runners there. will be interesting to see what happens as they start investing in athletics.

ya man, lots of big races in india. they have some great production too. those races were very enjoyable to watch - the ticker on the bottom provided some great info.

Kamworor loves racing in India, he's won lots of big races there. I know some athletes boycotted races there too tho, because of smog/bad conditions etc.

i hope he can live up to his gifts. would be fun to watch.

tbh don't see how he can't. he's just too strong & athletic, combined beautiful finishing ability at the rim. so even if his jumper is suspect, i don't see how he can't dominate the glass.

Quote
dumb point of conversation: how do you define "generational" talent? generations are usually taken to be 20 years. so the most talented/greatest player in a 20 year stretch. right now that'd obviously be lebron, but would you call giannis a "generational" talent? he's unreal, every bit as much a physical freak as lebron just blossoming later. anyone else in the NBA in that tier? people talked about anthony davis and KAT that way but i don't think so.

well for basketball, i think you can have generational players among different positions. ie, generational center, guard etc.

unlike say, boxing, where it's pretty much just one position (a fighter). but i guess u could have several at the same time, via different weight classes.

as for Giannis, not sure if i'd put him there yet. he's incredible for sure, but I guess i've always considered "generational talents", those who not only are on another level skill-wise, but also lead their teams to victory.

so ya, when it comes to AD/KAT/Greek Freak, they need to figure out how to win. That's what makes someone like LEBRON, Curry, AI, Shaq, Kobe, MJ etc on another level. They are just so dominant that it's hard for a game not to tip in their favor - resulting in them having more regular & post season success. The league is absolutely stacked now, so it's definitely not easy. But when someone like Lebron or SHAQ comes along, they basically "unstack it", and they become the epicenter, that's how it feels to me anyway.

as for Zion, he just gives off the vibe that he will change whatever game he's in, completely. Defensively, offensively, etc. We'll see soon, that's for sure!

Quote
curry isn't generational, he's sui generis.

if he was on an awful team, i feel like he'd be more of an AI. He'd still figure out how to win. He'd probably also take more shots.

AI is a great example for me. He was just a force, as small as he was, that could lead a subpar team to victory, year after year. He really was incredible. I still remember him going up against the dynasty Lakers.. 76'rs completely outmatched, AI goes off for like 48 or something to steal game 1. On paper, PHI has no chance against that LA team. AI was just incredible. AI proved how lethal a scoring point guard could be in a "big man league".

pc!

- fastest first mile of a 5k: 5:13.97 :personal-record:
- weak PR but.. still a PR

wanted to hit the first mile under 5 but felt pretty crappy. boop. didnt check data yet, but think i went out faster than i should have (like 4.4x). humid af too eh.

got my best ever first mile in a 5k tho, so that's cool. by < 1s.

going to keep trying to get that first mile down in a 5k. just bugs me that my body holds me back (when the distance is longer). it's something i'm trying to override. 8|

that highlighted 'tick' is where i stopped running sub5 for that effort.

Kamworor drops the hammer. he likes to do that. wonder what his last 5k (of the 10k) was, had to be ~13:30.

great finish for the indian athletes.

Great job!

That <4:40 mile is well within reach!

thanks alot man!! ya for sure. i'm getting there. feels good :ninja: :ninja: :ninja: def not easy but, if I stay focused and keep up this kind of training, I should be able to get it before 2018 is finished. I'd be very happy about that.

these mile races in December are crazy fast. It'll be easy to get sucked in to 4:2X/4:3X pace early. I have to be ready for it. need to practice some 1k-ish efforts with survival 600's. lots of tough efforts on the schedule, lol!

def need to get my 1k sub 4:30 pace !@$@$

more horsepower. need it.

peace man!
