next year willie cauly-stein is gonna be making millions of dollars in the NBA and this dude from buffalo is gonna be, i don't know, managing a call center. but every once in a while, when he's feeling a little down, he'll flash back to that one time he took the best shot-blocker in college basketball to school, and he'll smile.

hook grip on DLs sucks at first. my recommendation is to practice on chins and other rows to get reps in and gradually work your way into doing the heavy stuff. your thumbs will hurt.

and on that note, doesn't look like you are really adhering to the internet-standard of balancing pushing and pulling for your torso and arms. i remember years ago reading eric cressey saying that reps should be balanced always between pushing and pulling exercises, and the planes of movement should also be balanced. if you're going to be unbalanced, better for it to be on the pulling side. in one form or other pretty much everyone i've ever read backs that up, and it makes intuitive sense.

last night:

WEIGHT: ???
SORENESS: abs
ACHES/INJURIES: none
MENTAL STATE: okay

- warm up

- superset x 2
-- DB jump squat 25s x3
-- SVJ x 3

- squat 185 x 6,6

- DB RDL 80s x 10,10

pressed for time because i had to work late. squats felt okay, no pain but definitely need to re-groove them a bit.

for front squats you can also do bodybuilder grip. easier on the wrists.

What does 440 +15 mean exactly

means he could have done 455 but no more.

welcome back, haha.

last night:

WEIGHT: ???
SORENESS: none
ACHES/INJURIES: left shoulder but went away during jumps
MENTAL STATE: good

- warm up

- DLRVJ x ~15
surprisingly good considering the long layoff. didn't get any clean dunks with the #3 ball or with the dodgeball but they were going in. just bouncing up off the back iron or rattling in. ~34 and maybe 35 at the top end.

- paused squat 135 x 6,6
alternating below parallel and ATG. no back discomfort whatsoever.

- superset x 2
-- paused (i.e. powerlifting-style) bench 135 x 6
-- BB row 115 x 6

- RDL 135 x 6,6

- decline sit-up +18 x 6,6

- stretch

went easy for first day back in the gym. felt very good.

or try adjusting your grip? if you're doing really wide grip, then maybe narrow a bit to a more conventional grip? or do a bit of fiddling around with technique? maybe you're not pressing through the floor enough with your feet?

well, having a nagging injury tends to hamper progress. no surprise there. how is your heel now?

switching rep scheme is a good idea. also, have you considered emphasizing more accessory work? what do you think is holding you back? maybe it's time to try some dedicated tricep work, for example.

because yeah, you're significantly bigger than i am but i got my bench to 225 x 5,5,4 earlier this year without trying that hard. something's amiss there for you.
