I'm trying to improve running vertical most (off two legs) but still trying to do both. Am I supposed to train this differently in the weightroom? I know I'm supposed to practice the technique of running and jumping off two feet often.

nah, as long as you're practicing jumping a lot the gym part isn't as important. i'm not sure i'd set up a microcycle the way you did but i'm not gonna tell you what you're doing is wrong, either.

- SVJ and double jumps x a bunch
- pull ups and clapping pull ups in between jumps

- circuit x 2
-- BSS 26s x 5
-- DB RDL 26s x 10

standing vertical or running vertical? like, are you trying to dunk or do you just want to be able to jump higher from a standstill?

the verdict is that pretty much any cue is context-dependent, and trying to universalize something as vague and ill-explained as "knees out" is a recipe for disaster.

EDIT: also that just because someone uses words like "torque" and "eversion" doesn't mean they actually know what the fuck they're talking about.

yesterday spent 12 hours in the car driving back through the mountains to dushanbe. stretched and went to bed immediately after. cough was back this morning.

just now (wednesday evening):

- warm up

- 1-2 jumps x 6
ME jump followed immediately by another ME jump. coordination spotty on these, will continue to practice as i think they're probably good.

- SL pogo x 5/e,5/e

- DSVJ x a few
got up pretty good on one or two of them

- circuit x 3
-- DB bench 20s x 10 (had to pause in the middle of the last set to cough a lot)
-- DB row 20s x 10
-- DB BSS 8s x 10
-- DB RDL 16s x 10

- circuit x 2
-- DB curl 8s x 10
-- tricep press down 12.5(?) x 10
-- paused decline sit up x 10

- stretch

feels so good.

i've found all that to be very true in my own experience. the knees-out cue is fine as far as it goes but past a certain point i feel much less stable and also much more stressed in the knee.

this morning i did 20 or 30 minutes of calisthenics and stretching. kept it light so as not to kick off the coughing. air squats, some isometric stuff, band-resisted RDLs, pull-aparts, etc.

this evening i did the 7DVJC.

tomorrow i'm hoping to skip across the border into afghanistan for the afternoon.  :almostascoolasnyancat:

Start with the weights on the ground, then you can adjust your stance so you're in the best position before picking up the weights. It just takes a bit of adjustment but you should find a good position after a few attempts.
