Quad has been really good lately. Today after a long time i was able to do box pistol squats without any bugging.
I like a lot how it feels and i don't intend to roll back to that endless half-injured cycle so i will keep rehabbing.
Today : long lower body stretch routine, legs afterwards = jello.

^^^ Interesting. Where is T0ddday to explain this to us? Intuitively you'd think that losing BW wouldn't have a deleterious effect on muscle fiber composition as long as you're consistently training for strength and/or explosiveness. No idea whether that's actually true in the real world, though.

i agree that imitating form on a max jump is a bad idea, for the reasons avishek and raptor stated. thinking about things too hard is a recipe for uncoordinated messes. but thinking about approach and plant on submax jumps might not be a bad idea. look at high jumpers: that form is not purely natural, it's learned and practiced over time. i loved the video that raptor posted the other day of soviet high jump training. lots of hops and bounds and low depth jumps and the like.

KF is right, too, obviously. and at any rate, that's what i'm going to try to do this winter: improve power, improve strength, and practice jumping in game situations.

so?

Posted this in the Gerald Greene thread, which became the why LBSS sucks at jumping thread (sorry Joel): Just signed up for indoor ultimate this winter. Starts in January, games twice a week. Indoor ultimate is fun, it's like a cross between basketball, regular ultimate, and hockey. Played on a court so the chances of an ankle roll are much reduced. I'm out of shape and some extracurricular, fun GPP for a couple of months can only help, along with the opportunity to sprint and jump in a relaxed, competitive setting. Relaxed because there's no internal pressure to hit a particular height target. Competitive because, hey, it's competition. Who knows, I might come out the other side with improved movement efficiency and speed.

^^^ not bad advice but i don't really play basketball and i no longer even have regular access to a court. i've noticed that i jump higher when the rim looks lower, so the psychological/CNS factor is definitely there. and then there's the inhibiting factor of beating myself up for not jumping better when i'm jumping poorly.

i might sign signed up to play indoor ultimate this winter and will get my jumping and sprinting in that way. plus would help with GPP; i'm a bit out of shape. more relaxed jumping in the flow of the game = good practice. okay.

yeah, your run-up is waaayy too slow, stiff, and upright. If you're jumping 34 with that technique, you could definitely be at 40+ with a proper run-up. Watch porter mayberry and zack jones

first sentence is true. second sentence might be true but is fucking useless to me because i can't do a proper run up. simply have not figured out how to do one. if you've got any advice other than "watch these supremely talented people" i'm all ears.

I'm fully aware that not everyone sleeps in their own vomit lol, there's definintely normal people at parties that drink too (aka all my friends).

but the kind of people that LBSS mentioned... i mean wtf? you're in your 20's and want to make a liquor graveyard? i wanna slap that bitch and tell her to grow up. and then all the people on monday mornings telling you how drunk they got over the weekend. nobody gives a shit about how drunk you were. tell me what happened while you were drunk. Anything funny? interesting? important? ive heard the "omg i was so hammered" story so many times before.

hm, interesting look at his foot as he plants. never noticed the heel coming up off the floor immediately like that, as he's planting the forward foot. not sure what burnouts are but going back and look at some of my better jumps -- still vastly shittier than greene's, obviously -- my plant is too much of a jump stop for something like that to make a difference. flat footedness prevails.

to wit:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fS9bSrCGhg" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fS9bSrCGhg</a>

what are burnouts? i never got air alert.
