Basketball / Re: A WHOLE BUNCH OF DUNKS AND SHIT.

@vag: as is often the case with in-game dunk videos, the bench reaction is the best part.

edit: this is funny: http://deadspin.com/5966239/this-lady-behind-the-clippers-bench-was-the-only-one-unimpressed-by-last-nights-performance

12/5/12 Wednesday BW=160.6

bench 8x135, 8x175, 8x185, 6x205, 6x205
calf raise 180# 3x12
pull up BW 12,8

feeling lean today, sore in a good way, and confident I can achieve my goals.

so i guess the workout before was a mental focus issue.  :D

living in america rules. everyone ships here and you don't have to pay VAT so shipping usually ends up being "free" after you take off the VAT costs.

P-CHAIN AND POWER BLOCK DAY 3

WEIGHT: 179.5
SORENESS: hamstrings, glutes pretty bad
ACHES/INJURIES: none
MENTAL STATE: good mood, happy, CNS not too amped up, though.

- warm up

- SVJ x 6

- depth jump @18" x 4,4,4
pretty bad, i think, although i wasn't near a mirror so no frame of reference other than feeling

- KB swing 28kg x 10,10,10
focus on explosive transition and glutes firing all the way through full hip extension

- calf raise 135 x 20,20,20
did these with a barbell before noticing that there is a leg press machine. problem solved. adequate calf strength, here i come.

- dip x 10,10

- low cable row 130 x 10,10/e

- decline sit ups, touch knee with opposite elbow x 20,20,20

- beach work

- stretch

soreness dissipated by the end of the workout. it's still there but not as bad. hindered SVJ and depth jumps. i'm a bit apprehensive to see what happens with the old bball court (see above post). if i could even get on there an hour a week, that'd be awesome. we'll see.

Yup, I was actually thinking about what you said... I definitely need to get these shoes... hopefully I won't get the sucky powerlifting shoes.

I'm thinking of getting the Adidas ones from eastbay, even though they're expensive.

just get rogue do-wins. they're like $80 cheaper than the adidas ones.

what's wrong with your knee that it hurts even on HBBS? try leg curls, maybe? BSS with front foot close to the bench, so knee flexion emphasis?

Quad has been really good lately. Today after a long time i was able to do box pistol squats without any bugging.
I like a lot how it feels and i don't intend to roll back to that endless half-injured cycle so i will keep rehabbing.
Today : long lower body stretch routine, legs afterwards = jello.

^^^ Interesting. Where is T0ddday to explain this to us? Intuitively you'd think that losing BW wouldn't have a deleterious effect on muscle fiber composition as long as you're consistently training for strength and/or explosiveness. No idea whether that's actually true in the real world, though.

i agree that imitating form on a max jump is a bad idea, for the reasons avishek and raptor stated. thinking about things too hard is a recipe for uncoordinated messes. but thinking about approach and plant on submax jumps might not be a bad idea. look at high jumpers: that form is not purely natural, it's learned and practiced over time. i loved the video that raptor posted the other day of soviet high jump training. lots of hops and bounds and low depth jumps and the like.

KF is right, too, obviously. and at any rate, that's what i'm going to try to do this winter: improve power, improve strength, and practice jumping in game situations.
