Progress Journals & Experimental Routines / Re: THE DREAM JOURNAL
« on: September 15, 2010, 10:23:53 am »
From earlier this week.

The details of the first half of the dream are vague, but I know that in general I was with a group where people kept dying or suffering weird puncture-type wounds (including me). Very much a horror-movie feel, like, "Who's the killer?" So we were trying to figure it out and we ended up in this creepy old house owned, apparently, by the receptionist in my office. She's a fat middle-aged lady, perfectly nice as far as I can tell although I don't interact with her much. We had some theory about why the source of the evil would be in this house so she let us in so we could look around. We were snooping and opening and doors and whatnot and then someone opened a door to the basement and thousands of bats started flying out and swarming around. "Aha!" we thought. "That makes sense...bats!" And then a little creature that looked like an ewok but which in the dream was clearly called a hobbit walked out and started coming toward us. It seemed about ewok-sized as it came out the door but as it moved toward us it got smaller and smaller until finally it was about 4 or 5 inches tall.

We were satisfied with the bat answer but then we turned around and the receptionist-lady (Sharon) was standing there, kind of looming, and started to make some speech about how foolish we were and her powers and her teeth got real long and sharp and she turned bright red and she was smiling very creepily.

Then I woke up.

Then later, as I was remembering the dream, I began to realize that there were all kinds of very cinematic touches here and there foreshadowing the fact that Sharon was the evil thing. For example, there was a "shot" while we were snooping around in which she could be seen in the kitchen in the background, kind of out of focus, putting live frogs into a pot and kind of smiling.

SUICIDE GRIP ON THE BENCH PRESS DETECTED!

LEVEL-7

Yeah, that would definitely interfere with developing perfect neuromuscular programming or whatever the hell that guy's talking about. http://everyjoe.com/health/stafon-johnson-in-bench-press-accident/

I don't get why that's funny. I mean, the guy's form was awful but getting 425 to your shoulders ain't no joke...

lol, thanks for the words of wisdom, vag. Feel free to offer coaching whenever you please; I do it all the time from my amateur seat over here   ;)

With respect to the length, I was more worried that it was too short, rather than too long. But I don't think that's going to be such a big deal, now that I think about it. I can give it a go, see where it takes me, and then reevaluate.

I feel like I've seen video of Troy Polamalu doing that kind of shit. Just goes to show you that, in order to be an elite athlete, it's much, much, much, much, much, much more important to be great at your sport than to train in any particular way.

So at some point today I developed a gigantic knot in the middle of my back, on the left side. Thought it would go away with rolling, a good warm up and stretching. I was wrong. Legs still sore, too, foam rolling at the gym on the harder roller was paaaaainful.

warm up
foam roll x30 minutes
jump rope, mobility, stationary bike, stretching

work
jump squat 3x3x65
fucked around with a bunch of other squatting, BSS, etc., but nothing heavy or worth noting thanks to my big fat knot. It's okay, it'll be gone tomorrow or Wednesday.

cool down
stretch

LOL, no wonder I couldn't find it in my PMs. Okay, so we're looking at:

Phase 1, neutral = 1:1:1:0 x4
Phase 2, power = 1:2:2:0 x2
Phase 3, reactivity = 0:1:3:1 x1

?

That gives a month of neutral, about a month of power and two weeks of reactivity before re-testing, based on three workouts per week. Seems like a reasonable set up, if not very long.

Ankle issues - my ankle still hasn't fully healed up after about 2 months, and I am asking for anyone's opinion if they know what is going on with it - when I rub ice over the area of the ATFL (Ligament) or just run my finger over the area I get a tingling down into my last 2 toes which makes me believe there's an issue with the nerve, anyone ever hear of this? Something that will go away on its own? Because when I'm doing anything explosive I still tend to get what feels like a "cramp" (even tho ligaments don't really cramp) occasionally, and I'm surprised it hasn't gotten completely better by now.

REST REST REST REST REST REST REST REST REST REST

You shouldn't do anything explosive until the ankle is stable again and if you're still having issues after two months, believe me, it's not stable. You'll start compensating with your knee, and your knee isn't meant to do what your ankle does. That will lead to pain.

So work on stability and strengthening now. It takes time, be patient and you won't be as likely to fuck it up again like I have (four times).

If you want help with exercises and such, let me know. I'm not as good as seeing an actual PT (obviously) but I have craploads of personal experience with ankle rehab.

Soreness shockingly low today, although not gone altogether.  :highfive:

No more ultimate until next year and I'm not hurt at the end of the season, for the first time in three years (!).  :highfive:

Now, no distractions and no reason not to make gains.  :highfive:

Yes, that's three high fives.

adarq, you got any thoughts in terms of approach/ratio of workouts? I can't find the PM I sent you, so I have the sessions I made up (strength-hypertrophy, strength-power, speed-reactivity) but not the setup, which was pulled completely out of my ass anyway.

EDIT: Also, it's a bit early but you got any ideas for me for stim? I realize I didn't include that before.

EDIT 2: Think I will take it relatively easy this week and then test on Friday and Saturday.

Today I foam rolled and went to town on my thighs and calves (left in particular felt tight as hell) with the theracane. Felt good and feels even better now. Woot.

Also, started reading Stretch to Win on the recommendation of many. So far, so good.
