ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: Gain stamina for basketball

Sounds like solid advice. What if there's no one at the Y though? Would suicides and the like be beneficial? I just hate getting tired so quickly...

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Gain stamina for basketball
« on: October 19, 2011, 04:59:33 pm »
For the past few weeks I've been doing adarqi's intro block and its been going fine. But basketball tryouts are in a month and my main focus will be to improve my bball skills since I'm weak at several of the fundamentals (shooting, dribbling etc...). Another weakness is that I lack stamina, and I feel that my weightlifting strength (the little that I have) doesn't help translate on the court.

Currently I'm around 6"2 and only 165 lbs so I'm skinny but my main concern isn't bulking up at this point but to get into the best basketball shape possible. Suggestions for the cardio/weights that I should be doing? I can grab rim from a standstill, but my running vertical isn't much higher and my legs feel dead when playing bball... I have a squat 5 rep max of around 190.

I guess that's not a good sign. :s

There's just so much stuff to shift thru on this forum that I don't know where to start.

Figured I'ld ask the head honcho to get some answers & some questions off my chest.

1) Over the past few months, I did SS and got my bw up to round 173ish but I felt bloated as hell and nasty. I'm pretty hardcore ectomorph - I'm 6"2 and only 163 lbs right now (very low bf). Currently doing All Pro's and just finished a cycle (160 x 12 for squats was done comfortably... I'm weak).  :(

Any tips for what vertical jump program I should follow - or just general stuff I should know? My squat numbers aren't high relative to my bw so should I be concentrating in upping my strength first? I want to dunk lol.

2) The CALL EM out threads are hella entertaining. But which programs are do u approve of? I'll be a junior this year and I want to transition to a guard... I suck bad at parts of my bball game though. Dribbling, shooting, just having confidence in my game... all things I need to massively improve on.

I have 2 months to put work in... was gonna buy Taylor Allan's program but after seeing all these scammer threads, I'm having doubts and I'm getting confused on how to do.

Thanks for the help.  ;D

Anyone else know how to get better at balling?

Any tips for how to improve my shooting/dribbling? As much as people here hate on programs and people like Taylor Allan, some of what he said kinda made sense to me (the whole being a good pratice game player that can only knock down oepn shots versus a player who actually can score at will.)

Currently lifting atm using All Pro's Beginner Routine, I was on SS for a while but I felt fat as hell and bloated on it, was eating my way to a double chin. Have upper body issues lol, I burn calories fast/am a harcore ectomorph.

I played basketball this year on my high school's sophomore (10th grade) team, after basically two years of not taking basketball seriously. I was out of shape stamina wise, hadn't improved my dribbling or shooting, and I struggled during the daily 2 hour practices. But I got more consistent and better overall as the season progressed. But I know that I still have so much more to work on if I hope to move up on the totem pole (there's a Soph. team, JV team and Varsity team at my school... there were 2 sophomores on JV last year and none on Varsity).

I'm 6"2, currently 166 lbs and I played forward last year but I want to transition into a guard position. I need to get stronger and add bulk onto my lanky frame... also want to dunk by next year (I like to think big lol) - I can grab rim no problem. But my vertical is secondary to my basketball skillz right now.

My shooting is pretty ugly right now... I didn't attempt any jump shots lol during the season - just did post moves (hook shots) and drove in - so I need lots of help with that if I want to be a guard.

Was looking at some programs like Moroko's Better Ball Handling and Allan's Prolific Shooting, thought twice after seeing adarqi's Call Em  Out threads lol.

Just wondering what resources you guys can recommend for me to improve for next season - my neighbor has a hoop that I can practice on. I need help with the fundamentals and I just want to get better.
