There's really no other way to get into basketball shape other than to play basketball.  I get in and out of shape quite a bit, but play ball consistently and I never get tired when I play.  I'm just efficient in my movement, because playing ball is second nature to me.  Running or doing some other kind of exercise is a different story though when I get out of shape.  Just shooting around on your own will get your body used to basketball movements and make you more efficient and waste less energy when you play, so you don't get tired.
