Pics, Videos, & Links / 40+ inch running vertical
« on: August 20, 2011, 09:44:26 am »
<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

video from yesterday. im 5'9 in shoes so 69 inches. the orange plate under the rim is 9'6. on my second jump I had the top of my head was at the glass which is 2-3 inches or so below that. So lets just call it 9'2 to be conservative.

9'2 equals 110 inches. 110-69 = 41 inches. Those jumps were taken after playing pick up and dunking for a while. Plus, I am in the middle of a training phase and my legs havent fully recovered yet. So i'd say at the moment my running vertical is anywhere from 41-43 inches. 45 inches comming soon.  :headbang: :headbang:

Article & Video Discussion / What makes an "elite" athlete"
« on: August 18, 2011, 05:42:02 pm »
at what point can somebody consider them-self to be an elite athlete?

for example, I am 5'8 and my vertical is right around 40+ right now. I can cockback with 1 arm, catch dunks off the backboard, and just got my first 2 handed dunk off the dribble yesterday. I expect in the next 3-4 months to start throwing down some crazy dunks, for example 360 which I am very close to at the moment, just cant get it down.

Anyways, being 5'8 with my vertical and being able to do all that, does that make me an elite athlete? Now i am not crazy strong or fast, so does that put me out of contention for what somebody would consider to be an "elite athlete".

I'd just like to hear you guys thoughts on what you would consider a person with elite athletic abilities to be. Is somebody like a Lebron James who is incredibly strong, built like a tank, and extremely explosive with a 40+ inch vertical a good example of what somebody of the highest athleticism ranks would be? I think so. Other examples I can think of are Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Nate Robinson, etc.

Another question I have is can somebody excel in 1 area of athleticism and be considered "elite". For example T-Dub. he jumps ridiculously high, but what if he was weak and slow? I dont think that would make him an average athlete just because he only excels in 1 area. Another example is NFL running back Chris Johnson. CRAZY fast, but what if he couldnt lift a lot and had a low vertical?

just curious to hear your thoughts everyone. My goals are to have a running vertical of at least 45 inches, be able to throw down 360s and tomahawks, and bench 200+ pounds all at 5'8 and 155lbs w/single digit body fat. Would that make me an "elite athlete"?

Old Journals / 236 Days To Reach My Goals
« on: July 31, 2011, 11:39:50 pm »

im going to be doing somewhat of an experiment. What happens when, for a set period of time, a person dedicates themselves to something as much as a human possibly can? That's what I'm going to find you.

Come next April, i'll need to have a scholarship to play on the division 1 level.  That's my goal. For the next 236 days, I am going to completely commit myself to reaching that goal by doing the following:

- intense/strict practice everyday, working on all skills of the game
- eating extremely clean diet
- becoming a better athlete
- studying the game along with the best players the game has to offer

I am also going to dedicate myself 100% do studying the stock market by reading different books and studying. I plan to work with my dad someday so that is another goal of mine.

I will also dedicate an hour before bed every night to mental visualization. I'll lay down in bed, close my eyes, and envision everything I want for myself by the time April 1st, 2012 comes. When I wake up on that day, heres what I want to have happened

- i've earned myself a division 1 scholarship
- i've become an elite athlete
- i've earned myself the muscle car of my dreams
- i've read more books and studied more on the stock market than anybody and have put myself in a position to have my dream career

Those are the things I'm going to visualize every night. So for the next 236 days, I will wake up at 4:30 a.m every morning and completely dedicate myself to my goals, along with mentally visualizing all of these goals comming true. I hope that this will prove that when a person completely puts their effort and heart into something they can achieve anything they want. I'll be logging hours spent practicing and what I practiced, what I did to continue reaching my athleticism goals, how many hours I studied the game and what I studied, and how many hours I spent studying the market.

This is the journal where I will log all of this. I'll be logging everything else in my other journal

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Single Leg Jumping Improvement
« on: July 23, 2011, 08:56:40 pm »
Lance (or anyone else)

Im really looking to increase my single leg jumping . Off 2 feet my vertical is right around 40 inches but off 1 it is a much different story. Its very inconsistent. 2 week ago I got my first dunk off 1 and havent been able to come close since. At times I can even grab rim with two hands off 1 and other times, not even close.

Lately ive been doing BSS with a dumbbell, goblet style, for 3 sets of 5. Ive been using heavy weights, and 2 weeks ago I hit 20 reps with each leg with an 85 lb db. I weight about 160 so i feel my legs are pretty strong.

Do you have any suggestions on what kinds of lifts/plyo exercises I should be focusing on to improve my single leg jumping. Should I switch to donig the bss with a barbell now that the dumbbells are getting a little to heavy to hold, or should I pick a different exercise. What do you think is holding me back? Im really looking for some guidance as too what my training should be like to improve my single leg jumping while still improving my 2 footed jump at the same time.

If you've written a program for single leg jumping improvement i'd love to see it, or if you even had the time to write one up I would highly appreciate it. Not trying to ask for too much though. Any advice is very much appreciated.

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Hang clean question for Lance
« on: July 23, 2011, 03:23:08 pm »

I was wondering what direct effect hang cleans have on a persons vertical. In other words, how can they make you jump higher? I have a high vertical right now and can dunk easily. But I'm looking to become more explosive when going up with the ball. I lose about 2-3 inches when I dribble up to the rim with the ball. Being able to become more explosive with the ball in my hands will help my game tremendously and with a couple more inches I'll be able to dunk with two hands with ease off the dribble.

Do you think adding hang cleans to my training would help with jumping higher with the ball in my hands?

Off Topic / Tattoo Idea Help
« on: January 13, 2011, 12:00:35 am »
Idk if anybody is a good artist, but i was looking for some help with my newest tattoo i plan to get. This is my basic idea

I have the basketball on my shoulder with the flames.

As you can see the flames carry on a little bit onto my back. What I want to do is bring the flames in even more, all the way across my back to my other shoulder. In the middle of my back i want a cross, so it will look somewhat like this

only i want the cross like this

now this is where the tattoo becomes more personal to me and my life. Instead of just a plan tattoo, i want the cross to be filled with things that have meaning in my life, and i want to put them in the cross in the same kind of way that Jordan put the print on their Air Jordan 20 shoe. like this

Jordan put a bunch of different things into the pattern design of the shoe that had significance to his life. This is what i want to put into the cross. So picture the cross filled with things like that, only with meaning to my life

Things i'd like to put in:

- something to represent my love for basketball
- the lines of a stock market chart, which is what i want to do as a career with my father
- the italian and Portuguese in color ( a lot of color in this tattoo)
- musical notes (my mom loves to sing and sings around the house non stop)
- a small paw print (for my chocolate lab mocha, my best friend=])
- the chinese symbols for determination, desire, and strength
- a lion head (my dad used to always tell me a story about a lion when i was little, about how the lion saved the town from some rapist guy or something haha)
- a lightning bolt (we call my younger brother dash, from the movie the incredibles cus hes a fast little fuck)
- a playing card (me and my grandpa always play cards, and i lmfao every time over some of the shit he says, when he passes it will be a great memory)
- a flower (my grandma loves her garden and is always in it)
- a small clover (GO CELTICS :headbang:)
- a $ sign ( i want to make enough $ in live to help as many poor people as possible, id like to put giant buildings where homeless people could come freely to at least be warm and eat

thats pretty much it right now. i know its a shit load of stuff to put into a tattoo. but it would deffinetly be special to me. I also would like the words to my favorite bible verse inside the flames, in really light color so its hard to see at first. its hard to describe but imagine printing out a paragraph or words, drawing flames on it, and then cutting the flame out.

if anybody has any ideas or is artistic, or has experience in large back tattoos, id love to know your thoughts
