Pics, Videos, & Links / Bobsled training and 60m times
« on: November 12, 2013, 11:34:15 am »
Bobsledders are the fastest athletes in the world. American football players are fast too but the average speed of a bobsled team is much higher than that of any other team for any other sport except teams in Track and Field.

In the Bobsled combine athletes must perform a one rep max in the clean and the squat as well as a 60m sprint. Their 30m time and their 30m fly times are recorded electronically. Athletes start with their heel on the starting line (their foot in front of the line effectively), standing. I'm not sure how deep of a squat these athletes perform because I have seen some youtube videos of half squats performed by bobsledding athletes.

Here is an example of a bobsled athlete testing his 60m:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqMHfxHAzrM

They are scored out of 800 points. An athlete may receive a maximum of 100 points in eight categories: 15m time, 30m time, 60m time, 30m flying time, squat, clean, shot toss, and broad jump.

Point awarded to athletes are based on how well they perform. These numbers are found here after clicking on "Combine Test Score Sheet": http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Bobsled-Skeleton-Federation/Results/Combine-Test

Here are the results of the 2013 USA Bobsled Combine:

The fastest man there is Chris Fogt, who was a former sprinter. Many sprinters do become bobsledders, like Lolo Jones, Craig Pickering, and Chris Fogt.

Here's a cool vid showing other training they do:

It's an Honors thesis but I think it deserves to go here esp since i'm posting other studies.

I wonder if it's stress that caused triglycerides to go up. Perhaps the paleo/crossfit regimen caused an unfavorable increase in cortisol, or oxidative stress.

Increased oxidative stress is associated with increased triglycerides here:

will look more later.

If i could directly upload a video file, like a .mov from my phone, i would post many more clips of my training. I dont post many clips because i would have to upload them to youtube but i dont want to upload just one short clip, if rather make a nice video.

Is this possible? Appreciate your comp skills adarq.

News, Announcements, & Suggestions / Game thread
« on: March 14, 2013, 11:18:26 pm »
Yo seriously this forum is about motivation.

We have a section for sexy pics and shit. But we need a thread about the GAME. About approaching women so beautiful, they intimidate, but inspire, at once. This will help Raptor get over his addiction to porn but also keep testosterone levels extremely high for all of us. We are MEN who are here to support each other, workout and lifting is good shit let's also motivate each other to grow some fucking balls, get out of our comfort zones, and keep pushing ourselves.

Les go. Upvote if you like it. I didn't create a poll because there aren't many options.

It should just be a thread about approaching women, stories of approaching them, good and bad, to serve as inspiration and experiences to grow from.

I am running a 5k in two days, signed up today. Make a bet as to how fast or slow I will do this.

I feel kinda slow this week due to frequent squatting. But I plan to do some plyos today to improve RFD by Sunday. From personal experience, just one plyometric workout makes me feel noticeably springier in a few days when I am recovered. I did some 150s today but they were slower than last time, around 20s for each one. 150m is the longest sprint I ever perform.

Make a bet!

Also feel free to discuss the effect of high intensity interval exercises on endurance performance.

Today I decided to deadlift. My frequency is about 1ce every 2 weeks, not going too heavy anymore. Today I went near maximal and hunched oover in the lower back most likely during a pull.

So here is what happened and my symptoms based on my observations in sequential order.

375lbs x2 reps. sumo-ish, feet are slightly wider than shoulder width.

First rep, i felt myself using my back a little bit. Intensity is 100%, teeth-clenched, very aggressive energy.
2nd rep, I felt a tearing sensation in my lower back. mid way through the pull, probably just after the barbell crossed my knees on the way up. I did complete the rep, lowered it. ANd stood up, noticing sharp pain in the lumbar spine. Not enough pain to cause me to have to sit down or make a lot of faces. but definitely enugh to end my workout. Couldn't even deadlift 135 after that.

Here are some things I can do sort of comfortable:
1. lunges, step ups
2. child's pose yoga
3. running very slowly causes some pain but it's not completely out of picture.

things that cause pain:
1. leaning backwards. I treid to do the inverted post in yoga that you do after child's pose, where the hip is hyperextended, and that is not possible. so I cannot hyperextend at the hip.
2. taking long strides while walking. when I walk I kind of have to stay on my forefoot. If I extend at the leg too much it causes pain.
3. toe-touch: standing there is abslutely now ay I can bend down to touch my toes. Unless I'm in the middle of a very cold shower. I have to squat down.
4. bending sideways while standing up: that exercise people do to train their obliques, that hurts. unless in cold shower than it's fine, haven't iced it yet I am preparing ice right now.

i think sitting down for toolong also makes it worse.

There is no leg pain. All pain is localized in one small area between L2-L4 unless it's not even in the spine. I read that leg pain is common in a herniated disk. legs feel very strong

Any ideas? Yes I know I need to see a doctor. workingon that.

What do you guys think? FOr those who don't know, super slow training, in the literature at least from my understanding, involves 4-5 s eccentrics, than 10 second concentrics. The load is definitely lower than what most ppl use for strength building. I'm giving it a shot actually, at the end of my workouts. So far the potentiation isn't bad..

http://www.unm.edu/~lkravitz/Article%20folder/superslow.html

Has anyone tried super slow and noted strength gains superior to conventional methods or seen improvements in athleticism, vert, speed?

Also the main reason I'm actually trying super slow (except instead of a 10s concentric, it's more like 5 for deep squats since that shit is so tough), is because I think it will be less stressful to the nervous system and calm me down more after workouts.
