hi guys it's been a while since i made any post... any recommendation for exercises (any type, db, bar exercise whatever) that will work many parts of the arms at once... i would like bigger arms in general - forearm, bi and triceps... i just saw this video few days ago and i tried this pull up variation and i really like it. it feels like it work a lot of different parts.

Basketball / Klay Thompson
« on: July 07, 2016, 07:06:44 am »
I really like Klay Thompson... his steady growth every year, ultra cool cat demeanor. GSW fans adore him and he has some nifty nick names. klaybot, klaystation, when he miss a easy bucket it's a klay up... etc. When he's stroking it and burning up the net swishing it looks and sounds so pure. Love it.

i found a place to source high quality protein locally for reasonable price. i have a dilemma and want some advice/opinions. 3 proteins i'm looking at:

1. pure whey isolate 90%
2. 80% protein, mix of whey isolate and water soluble protein (difference release rate?), + some kind of enzyme
3. 76% whey isolate protein, +zinc, +magnesium

maybe i'll get all 3 to try... variety/diversity is good right? or just get #1?

Nutrition & Supplementation / glycine
« on: March 19, 2016, 10:14:29 am »
i was looking around on Kelly Baggett's site and came across him saying he felt taking glycine was more effective than taking glucosamine - http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/bestsupplementforjointhealth.html

personally i used to take glucosamine but playing lots of basketball 4-5 years ago (2-3 hours daily, 3-3 and full court) i physically felt zero difference once i stop taking multivitamins and glucosamine all together. the only difference was i stop peeing yellow. now that i'm few years older and entering into 40's now i'm a bit more cautious. on the plus side glycine is cheap to buy here in Taiwan. it is sold as a food grade additive (sweetener). made by Japan's Showa Denko 1kg shipped is only 410nt or ~$13. i plan to try some and report back the results. a quick search on this site only turn up a handful of post about it and not much discussion.

i took a quick look at couple of google results and it seems like a good supplement:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycine
http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1072-glycine.aspx?activeingredientid=1072&activeingredientname=glycine
https://examine.com/supplements/glycine/

from these sources, they all seem to indicate glycine as positive and with no drawbacks. summary:

Quote
Glycine is an amino acid, a building block for protein. It is not considered an “essential amino acid” because the body can make it from other chemicals. A typical diet contains about 2 grams of glycine daily. The primary sources are protein-rich foods including meat, fish, dairy, and legumes.

Glycine is used for treating schizophrenia, stroke, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and some rare inherited metabolic disorders. It is also used to protect kidneys from the harmful side effects of certain drugs used after organ transplantation as well as the liver from harmful effects of alcohol. Other uses include cancer prevention and memory enhancement.

Some people apply glycine directly to the skin to treat leg ulcers and heal other wounds.

How does it work?
The body uses glycine to make proteins. Glycine is also involved in the transmission of chemical signals in the brain, so there is interest in trying it for schizophrenia and improving memory. Some researchers think glycine may have a role in cancer prevention because it seems to interfere with the blood supply needed by certain tumors.

Pics, Videos, & Links / how to do splits in 30 days video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVBZIFh8NDY

this is the stretch routine i've been doing for the last 2 weeks. kind of time consuming, but it is working well (mainly the extended time for the pigeon stretch) for my stiff piriformis. as a bonus being able to do the splits also happen to be a secret dream of mine, so i thought i give this a try. this is causing my hot spring sessions to take like 1.5-2 hours on the nights that i go.

i'm right handed and i do pretty much everything with my right. i already knew my left hand/arm is weaker. i was doing several forearm exercises today:

forearm db curl 25lbs 1x10, 25lbs 2x8 (hard)
forearm db hammer 10lbs 1x10 (warm up), curl 25lbs 3x8 (3rd set is hard)
reverse forearm db curl 15lbs 1x10 (warm up), 25lbs 3x8 (3rd set is hard)
pinwheel curl 15lbs 1x10 (warm up), 25lbs 3x8 (3rd set is hard)

and the db curl (i let the db roll down my fingers, almost falling off, then grip and curl) really showed how much weaker my left hand grip compare to my right.

my question is, do I just keep on doing the same work out for both sides? will the left side eventually catch up by it self, or is there a better way to help the left side improve faster? thanks.

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / how frequent should i train my back?
« on: May 06, 2011, 01:39:24 am »
hi guys, need a quick advice. i really want to gain some size (width mainly) as well as strength on my back. the chiropractor mentioned to me he thought my chest is quite a bit more developed than my back and i should bring up the back up some to balance it out. he suggested this might be a cause for my relatively tight upper back and neck.

my typical back day work out looks like:

Wed, May 3rd, 2011 (back work out)

hyperx 1x20 (warm up), 15kg 2x20
alt. db row 20lbs 1x10 (warm up), 45lbs 3x8, 50lbs 1x8 (PR was 55lbs)
straight/standing pull downs 50lbs 1x10 (warm up), 80lbs 1x8, 90lbs 1x8, 100lbs 2x8 (hard, matched PR)
wide grip lat. pull downs 60lbs 1x10 (warm up), 100lbs 1x8, 110lbs 2x8, 120lbs 1x8 (hard)
machine row 60lbs 1x10 (warm up), 130lbs 2x8, 140lbs 1x8 (hard, matched PR)

any other exercise you guys like for the back? my main question is how often (or rest days) should i rest minimum before i hit the back again? also should i go a little heavier with fewer reps (5?).

thanks!

i have been dealing with muscle stiffness for several months now. it is concentrated in the lower rear right part of my torso. basically lower right back, and deep with in the right butt cheek. when it gets really stiff it is pretty darn painful. on scale of 1-10 i'd give it a 7-7.5. quite bothersome...

i've been foam rolling, yoga stretching, hot tubbing (natural hot spring) a bit. the best relieve comes from getting visiting a well trained chiropractor who uses heat, vibration, ultrasonic, electronic stimulation, as well as several massage techniques to treat it. on a good day he can dramatically reduce the pain level to nearly zero. but, it tends to come back after 2-3 days. :-( this has been cycling back and forth for few months now and it's pretty bad in the last 2 month or so i haven't hit the gym because of it.

i'm just getting tired of it and some have suggested going to a Western doctor and getting some muscle relaxant. reading about the side effects and warning is scary though... i'm not sure i should even bother with it. any first hand experience?? there's a 40 something years old local pharmacist that swears by the stuff. says it takes all his muscle pains away with out any notable side effects.
