Are you adding in the high rep sets for variety or is it a strategic move or some combination?

Never thought this would be better, but I have my reasoning for it. At least for me, if I don't perform an exercise for a while then I lose neural strength in it. So I feel like keeping the neural strength in an exercise would be better than changing it up because you could be doing more weight due to your efficiency in that exercise!

I agree with this. If i skip and exercise for a while. No matter how good my workouts have been and how similar other exercises ive been performing are i dont see progress in the skipped exercise or even lose ground.

If you're using BSS as a serious strength building exercise you have to move/control heavy weight WHILE balancing and focusing on using your working leg. I think hes confusing performing as a half assed rehab exercise vs trying to make serious gains when he calls bss easier to coach/perform... and by that logic teaching somebody to regular squat with 20 lb dumbells isnt difficult either...

how does your svj compare @ 365/405 vs 455+?

i noticed some explosiveness from walking regularly in the past.

walking 1-3 hours seems really..... excessive though.

Nutrition & Supplementation / Re: whey protein and milk causes acnes?
« on: March 09, 2014, 07:14:27 pm »
i've never noticed acne from whey protein but milk makes me break out especially if i'm drinking a couple glasses a day. not to a point where i'd change it, i just use a acne wash which will dry my skin and clear it up.

i'd suggest cutting the milk. especially since you can consume one glass of water and get 40-50 grams of protein from whey where as you're going to have to consume enough milk to give anybody acne even w/o a problem to get the same amount.

another thing to consider is does your whey protein have creatine in it? that can also cause breakouts.

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / Re: wide BSS questions?

adding long stance BSS really have done wonders fatiguing my glutes. I never get that from squat/lunge/45 hypers/etc. thanks for the suggestions I think i'll ditch the barbell variation and rep out with 35-50 db's.

ADARQ & LanceSTS - Q&A / wide BSS questions?
« on: November 09, 2013, 07:34:38 pm »
is there any tricks to get in a wide BSS stance? I was doing barbell BSS on a plyo box and hopping out with my front foot but 115-135 started hurting my back.

I switched to DB on a bench (bigger target for hind foot and softer) last workout and tried tightening up everything and blindly reaching onto the bench with my back foot. its easy to do but not get in a wide stance. Is this the best way to do it? i'd like to go back to doing with barbell. with doing dumbells where is the ideal place to hold them also? I've been holding them at the sides of my front leg but looking in a mirror it looks like I might be leaning forward to hold them there.

thanks

how the hell do you get by my 4 hours of sleep? i do it often but i can tell a difference lifting compared to being well rested. i end up sleeping 16 hours on the weekend. think i would be delirious if i did that indefinitely without catching up on sleep on the weekends.

trying to cut corners i guess which ended up biting me in the ass. i was thinking if i could keep my bw low thats less i have to squat before my strength to weight ratio is as good or better then before. didnt think it was radical enough that it would completely stall my strength gains. fuck it. i gave in have been adding more meat, yogurt, protein powder to my diet before. im still trying to be disciplined about sticking to diary, meat, veggies.

i was impatient lifting 225 x 5 a few weeks ago now im lifting 185 x 5 lol. its all good probably a valuable lesson about waiting.

that does put it in perspective some lol. theres a thin line between discipline and too much.

i think ill add a little more protein/meat/greens into my diet daily and try to get 8 hours of sleep a night and maybe go down with the volume some.

thanks for the insight.

the one thing that made me question if it was lack of sleep/CNS is my explosiveness. i think i have enough bounce to dunk and i would've thought my vert/explosiveness would go to shit before my squat.

i definitely do feel fatigued. i've slept as much as 18 hours on a friday so i think thats a sign i'm not getting enough sleep. i think sometimes i get hyped/aggressive and it covers up some of my fatigue. i've been on this schedule since feb so if thats enough sleep i wouldn't thought i would've adapted but i still feel like shit in the morning.

i'll make sure i'm more disciplined about getting sleep. i'm a night owl and its difficult for me to get enough sleep when i have to get up at 7. i'll try to get a power nap maybe.

i'm eating a lot less then i am used to. i have been eating probably half what i used to but i'm only a few pounds lighter. i also try to make sure i get my protein and vegetables... my diet seems cleaner then ever. i know i dont get 160 grams though. the thing is though i used to eat tons of fast food/carbs/soft drinks etc and thats mostly what i cut out. ive been eating like a breakfast burrito with cheese & vegetables for breakfast, a philly cheesesteak for lunch, a foot long chicken sub or 3 grilled chicken snack wraps from mcdonalds for dinner and maybe popcorn for a yogort for a snack. its lighter then im used to but it doesnt seem THAT light. and its not like i get hungry. that said im a person that used to go to little ceasars and eat a whole pizza twice a week for a meal and stayed 165ish so im used to much more food.

i usually spend 1.5-2 hours and do a few plyo exercises before i lift often. i exercise every other day and every once in a while throw in some walking or calf raises on my off day. i usually alternate between one day going to the park and sprinting and doing 20 lb dumbells like 5 or 6 sets of 50-60 and 2 days later go to the gym and do depth drops squats leg pressing etc.

i think maybe you are right about me overdoing it. im approaching my workouts with more intensity then ever and i think have responded to my squat struggles with going HARDER not easing up.

right now im just working on a crazy vert and general athleticism. my goal right now is a really really good vert. id like to go out for a dunk contest like you did eventually. in the back of my mind i sometimes think back to college ball or community college not sure how feasible. maybe if my girlfriend got a significantly higher paying job and i could quit mine. not sure what my eligibility situation is. a lot of stuff would have to fall into place for that happen and im not going to force it but not completely out of the question yet. i do miss competitive ball. pick up or rec league aint the same.

i also been thinking about getting into boxing. i don't really have a good body type for it so i'd just do it for fun and cardio for my dunking.

i probably should rephrase dead end because i know there are MUCH worse people out there. i work for a health insurance company and make about 14 an hour and it is stable. there may be some better jobs within the company but i dont know what they are or how to get there. i have a few bills/expenses though that perhaps make it feel like i'm worse off then i am.

life is always a balance of longshots vs safe options. passion vs reliable. fun vs smart etc etc. ive decided since i'm only young once im going to work on my athletic goals for maybe a couple years as my main thing other then work. i feel like i could regret not seeing what i'm capable of later. after a while of giving it that 100% i can move on and do it more casually. that said i wouldn't mind learning something like programming on my own. i'm a very driven person and would like to show off what i'm capable of.

i really dont know what my situation will be in a few years. i might try to get an RN license in a few if i dont come up with anything better. they work for the insurance company i work for and just review cases over the internet and make like 22/an hour something like that. theres also hospitals of course and there's always a demand for them.

what're you hoping to do? i remember you had been a s&c coach and had wound up doing some labor job and were trying to brush up on your coding. whats up with that?

welcome back buddy.

i know how you feel. i didnt lift, play ball, exercise at all between like may 2011 and a few months ago got back into it. seems like i built up a lot of aggression and it made me realize how much i need training to get it out. it seems like you're approaching it more casually though im more hellbent on going farther then ever. with a dead end job and simple life i need something to pour myself into and strive to be the best at. i been cutting out sweets and stuff like that and when i was hooping/vert training before i always said fuck that theres some things i just wont sacrifice lol.

i'll be interested in seeing how you progress and stealing some of your good ideas.
