Training and running slowed somewhat but my Sunday league soccer matches have still been the focus. Today is the semifinal after a hard fought quarterfinal win last week. I did get one agility session it at the gym on thurs and have been playing with a mini ball at home after that. Def going to try and meditate for a good 20min to keep my mind positive.

I know I was disappointed by the call and it partly has to do with the Griezmann play before and also the fact that it was the world cup final... Rule of thumb is if it's 50/50 and you're not sure, don't call it. Especially if it's a decisive call in the final. Thing I don't understand about VAR, the ref is already going over to make the decision, why doesn't someone in the booth mention, "hey you fd up on the free kick it was a dive, just know if you give this call as well, you're massively influencing the game in one teams favor. Two calls of that caliber are almost impossible to overcome.

It could've been an epic game, Croatia was dominant on the ball for 60 minutes but chasing two goals, especially ones off bad calls is nearly impossible to do at that level. I stopped watching after the third France goal. Croatia had spent all their energy through previous games then trying to play catch up was too much. I thought they deserved more of a chance and I wanted to see France tested but everything went their way. I think they would've had the better chance to win either way but Croatia was really bringing it, it was sad to watch them go down that way after all that effort.

On another note, Luka Modric is amazing, like beyond belief. He needs to win best player for the World Cup and Ballon d or since he won the Champions League with Real Madrid. He's controlled 3 games that went 120 minutes, how nuts is that. I've never seen a player like that, running all over the place then connected on nearly every pass perfectly with either foot and all parts of his foot. Usually teams have a midfielder who runs all over and makes tackles and another who keeps his legs fresher to make accurate decisive passes. He does both consistently and itsss absolutely nuts.

Agreed, he is relentless, so much heart. Even when he ends up looking a bit tired at the end of some match, he finds another gear & still has his technique/precision.

Can't wait to see the match tmw, and can't wait to see what Modric can do. I also feel like Giroud will have a big performance.

France is my team tho, other than the US soo.. FRANCE!!!!

Hahaha I saw you got all that France gear! I really like them as a team, but I'll be mostly neutral while leaning for the underdog. The only thing I want is for it to be a good game. Realistically I think Croatia has played their best soccer and then some, I'm not sure how much they have left. With France, they've been so solid and in control of their matches and I don't even think they've quite peaked as a team yet. I'm really hoping its not a 2-0 or worse result with France in control. You never know though, lets just hope for a good game.

Yea LBSS said it perfect, they were just outclassed. It's a young team and a young manager. It seemed like they just didn't want to make mistakes (hence passing back to Pickford) when they were pressed. If they could've connected on a few passes through the midfield they could've used their advantage in speed and athleticism to catch Croatia on a quick counter. I mean one shot on goal says it all. Also, Harry Kane looked beat down, he just wasn't his normal confident, technical, and strong self. I've never seen him go down on slight contact like that, I think it was just a sign he was worn out. Had he scored on the one opportunity to put England up 2-0, VAR would've overturned the offside and it would've been a different game.

Indoor fill in soccer match - 2.03mi in 30min of play

Asked to fill in so a good opportunity to get some fitness and touches in... Indoor is much more like training because the intensity level is higher and it's quicker than a full sided games. Really good in that it allowed me to get more touches and awareness in.

Going for a nice easy run tonight. I'm pretty beat up and didn't sleep much on top of it.

^^^^ still can't get over how good those games were. so epic.

so amp'd for France/Belgium tomorrow.. getting off work early to watch it at home, probably with a nice cheeseburger :D

I'm jealous man, it should be a great game. I'll be sure to pull it up on my phone though.

Right now I'm cheering for any of the teams that's not England. I don't even mind the players but the fans are an absolute nightmare. Plus they've had the easiest road known to man. Two potentially first time winners in Belgium or Croatia would be cool. I also really like France and their chances, probably the most talented team left in the tourney.

Sunday League Game - 4.17 mi

Meditated just for 5min before the game because it was an early morning one and I wanted to get a good warmup in. We ended up winning 2-0. I had a pretty strong performance with one goal and an assist. The goal was a header off a free kick into the upper 90 :o . Really just got up in the air and met it at its highest point, the rest was luck.

The team we played was hard working but relatively weak. Nevertheless it was an encouraging performance. My touch was better, felt fresh throughout the game, was nimble on my feet, and mentally was for the most part positive with a few negative lapses. Both the physical and meditation training factored in. I want to be a bit stronger with shots on goal and there's still some cleaning up to do with regard to skill and game awareness along with being even more positive.

The one thing I'm honestly considering is dropping the one lifting day considering how good I felt. I'm going to try a Wed circuit with weights instead and see how that works out. This upcoming Sunday we face the strongest team in the league and playoffs are looming.

Light run ~ 35min

Waited until 9pm and the heat died down but took it very easy. Feel a lot lighter/ more recovered after getting it done. Didn't have fitbit to get a measure on distance unfortunately. I might have to adjust my schedule to lift tomorrow with July the 4th hrs in place today.

Happy Independence day to all Americans on board!

Really sad about Japan yesterday blowing that 2-0 lead. They were just playing wonderful and continued to attack and take risks. My Europhile self was angry that they didn't sit back, defend the lead and slow the pace of play. After watching Sweden win with their boring and pragmatic style of play I took much greater appreciation for the show they put on. They stuck with their own style and really gave the world a memorable game. Also, there's no telling that they won't inspire the next generation to continue to further that style and be successful down the road.

Soccer match

Ended up playing a 1-1 tie but honestly one of the worst matches I've ever played. It was close to 100 degrees out and I had been out coaching for a couple of hours before my match. Honestly felt like I was moving in slow motion, mentally and physically. I've never felt that beat down before. It was a massive confidence blow. To top it off I was grumpy and negative as well. On the training end of things the DLs on Fri was a mistake as my glutes were on fire and I think it inhibited me quite a lot. I'll fix the physical end of things by lifting on Weds instead of Friday anymore. For the mental aspect of the game, I'll be meditating before the game and hopefully a few times during the week.

Senegal bumped due to fair play points... :( some of those cards were complete bullshit too.

pretty pathetic imho. bleh.

Yea man, not the way you want to go out but to be fair there were no other categories left to judge by. You really want to take matters into your own hands and get the result (tie wouldve done it).

I really wanted African representation in the next round but it wasnt meant to be. Nigera especially i thought had the talent to make a run. The thing is they were also very young and inexperience hurts in key moments. The traditional powerhouse European and South American teams just have that extra edge in key games. They know when to foul, waste time, slow the game down, kill the game, etc. It sort of reminds of how good experienced boxers (ie floyd) clinch at the right times, preserve energy, and just generally keep the bigger picture in mind.
