achilles still feeling pretty good. got a pair of clifton 10s to replace my retired 9s that i have used as walking shoes and kind of wondering to what extent walking in the 9s has been an issue. i walk a lot, and man the contrast between the new 10s and the old 9s is pretty stark, the 9s feel like walking on sponges.

hell yeah. 4 consecutive days of ~8.5-9 hours of sleep is probably a big factor here.  :ibrunning:

taunting me.

heh, rare that i sleep past 6.30 even on the weekends, so present me is also feeling taunted

Cardio - 1:31:27 [of which ~50' running], 128 hr

Notes

0 pain for 95% of the running, 1/10 briefly when jogging home, and 1.5/10 for a minute on the elliptical (think sometimes position just gets a little funky).

hell yeah. 4 consecutive days of ~8.5-9 hours of sleep is probably a big factor here.  :ibrunning:

https://evokeendurance.com/resources/muscular-endurance-all-you-need-to-know/

Came across this recently when I was reading about the winners of last year's UTMB, Tom Evans and Ruth Croft. Both are coached by Scott Johnston and he's a big advocate of 'muscular endurance' (which he does via either like weighted hill walking or big circuits of lower body stuff). The training sounded super familiar, since I remembered you advocating for the like 1000 rep lunge workouts based on your reading of Yuri Verkhoshansky. Well, lo and behold, everything old is new again, and Johnston took if from Yuri as well! Hype to see that name coming back around, and this time in the endurance world rather than the power world.

AM - 10 x 3' (1') on elliptical (plus jogging to/from gym), 1:08:27

PM -
Lift - RDL, BSS, Rev Nord, OL calf ISOs [4 x (4 x 3") + 60kg], OAC isos, dips
Cycle - 4 x 4' (1'), 30' total

Notes

8h41m 'cardio' this week. Achilles totally fine today. Think the two modifications I am going to make: less hard running, less dorsiflexion in lifting, marginally less calf volume. I guess those are all just "reduce the load" variants, but they're ones that keep me happy rather than stop me doing stuff I want to be doing, haha.

Bike actually felt good today, should keep it in the rotation more than I have been!

Run - 12.25k, 1:25:24 (power-walking breaks at 5k and 9k just to give lower legs a breat, those were like 8:45 pace and manage to keep HR upper 110s, lol)
Gym cardio - 41:26, 126 hr

Notes

decent enough, not pain free but never too bad, but kept it conservative with the two quicker walking breaks.

don't think i remarked about it then, but i did 9 hours 11 mins of cardio last week, of which probably ~3-3.5 hours was running (two actual runs + ~10-20 mins each other day with running to/from the gym, etc) and ~100 mins was SubT+. plus probably more lifting volume than was sensible at the weekend. so not too surprising that i have been rather tired this week (+ a bug going around at the office, though i did not succumb, may have been fighting it off, + weather has changed and it's darker in the AM, so harder to get moving).

anyway looking at the running number, maybe i am still going a bit too much relative to stage of rehab. hard to say. maybe time for a second PT visit just for a follow up. has been 104 days (!!) since the hackney half, after all...

Run - sort of 2 x 3k progression w/ 1k strong easy recover [5:30, 4:50, 4:30 - 5:30 - 4:47, 4:28, 4:12 - 5:25, 5:37] for 8.48k, 41:45

Notes

had a lie in an so squeezed this in over lunch, hence making it a bit faster; will do the next session sunday rather than tmrw as such.

24-08-26

Cardio - 59:00, 122 hr

Notes

almost half running, achilles feeling pretty decent

14
23-08-26

Run - 10.09k, 1:05:56
Gym cardio - 58:45, 122 avg hr

Notes

Was worried I had overdone the achilles yesterday since the left side was pretty sore in the evening. Basically pain free today and running was totally fine. First 10k run in a good while! And 10 mins more on the backend of the gym cardio, too. Especially pleased since I probably did like 8-10 sets of calf raises to near failure -- first meaningful calf DOMS in a while.

Said this last week as well, but man I just feel so good after long super easy session (with a bit of carbs in there). Just so relaxing.

Upper lifting later.

22-08-26

Cardio -
Run - 2 x 3k, w/ 90" rest [4:11-4:20], 9.39k, 48:13 total
Elliptical - 5 x (4' on / 1' off) [HR in 160s], 50:05 total w/ extended cooldown

Lift -
OL Calf - +55 x 5, 4, 3
BSS - +80 x 5, 4
RDL - 130 x 5
Rev Nord  - +8 x 3 + BW x 3
then a few more sets of high rep calf raise stuff (10-30), probably did too much

Notes

Interestingly, both of the cardio segments worked out as 49 load on intervals.icu; i guess it's just easy running that gets a higher load score for me vs corresponding hr efforts for just 'cardio'.
