The market is crashing hard right now... the DOW closed down 3k today... it looks like it has gone off a cliff in the last few weeks.. for context, it took months for the DOW to go from 14k to 7k in 2008-2009.

In people's minds they're going to sell out now, see the market drop another 20%, buy back, and become substantially richer. It's not an outcome that's easy to achieve. Why?

1. The market may not drop another 20%.
2. If it does drop 20%, my guess is they'll be too scared to buy in as fear levels would be at the highest or they cannot believe the market will rally "what if it stays low forever like Japan?"

All the academic studies shows retail investors are better off sitting tight and not trying to time the markets. Not saying the market can't be timed – it definitely can – but statistics show only a minority of investors are capable of doing so successfully. After the longest bull market in history, the bear market was going to come at some point. I will hold, accumulate and going by history, the market will recover and make new highs. I haven't sold any stocks and have just been dollar cost averaging as usual. If you've invested for many years and you're sitting on big gains, are you going to sell your portfolio, crystallizing a tax bill then risk a big announcement tomorrow leading to a massive market rally?

The ASX is down about 30% in the last month, which is probably worse than the Dow. In the middle of panic it's hard to be rational. The market dropped about 50% in the GFC but the market returned insane amounts the initial years right out of the GFC. Most of the selloff about coronavirus impact is due to uncertainty. No one knows the exact impact on the bottom lines of many companies. The companies and investors with billions in cash are going to get even richer off this. The ones who can hold and buy are going to consolidate their wealth e.g. Warren Buffett.

I had visitors staying at my house last night and their car got stolen. It was unlocked but none of us even heard anything. 2019 Mazda 3 and it was uninsured  :raging:

STATIONARY BIKE : 25KM @ 49:03

Was planned to lift but didn't feel like it, but had only o-lift shoes with me so couldn't treadmill.
Turns out stationary bike is perfect for a low-effort session. Just horribly boring.

The worst part about exercise bikes are the seats! Thin, hard and uncomfortable in every gym I've been to. If the seats were more comfortable the exercise bike wouldn't be as bad.

Notes:
BP was hard af. got pinned on the last rep of the last set (obviously). waved at one guy but he just watched me lol. another guy was in the middle of the set and came over but he wasnt strong enough to take it off my chest and i was too weak to help him. eventually he lifted one side up enough for me to crawl out. how embarrassing. i hate bench press.

That will do pig, that will do. Recomping from tmr on using fat loss supplements..

That's happened to me before at my old gym where there was no power rack. At the time nobody helped so I ended up just rolling the bar off down my stomach to my hips. After that experience whenever I was going heavy I would always ask somebody for a spot.

Does your gym have a power rack to bench in?

Good to see you recovering nicely.

I have an experimental question, how good do you think ankle drags are where you attach weight to each ankle and you do sprint starts up to 10m to get low heel recovery as well as power for each leg added benefit.

What do you think of this idea. worth experimenting?

It was a positive to run again but I had a bit of a setback. 1 step forward 2 steps back :(

I've always trained fairly conventionally and have never tried running with ankle weights. It's really up to you whether you want to experiment with it.

i'm sure the lebron video GOT to the good stuff. it's just funny to me that despite his uniqueness as a player the thing they chose to lead with -- and therefore emphasize -- was the thing that least separated him from every other powerful 6'8" 18-year-old overwhelming his competition with sheer physical advantage.

Physical size is an advantage in basketball though. Athleticism is an advantage. Basketball requires skill but people with size have much greater potential in basketball.

Basketball is the sport that I've dedicated the most time in my life to even though I haven't played organised basketball since high school. I started playing in organised games when I was 8 and from the age of 10 to 16 if I wasn't at training for high school or club then I would be out at the local hoop shooting for hours until it was dark. I played at least 2 organised games a week each week. In the USA high school is where everyone plays and gets recruited. In Australia I was in Year 10 (Sophmore for USA) and playing as the starting Point Guard for my high school against Year 12's (Seniors). Australia is a lot different to the USA though. In Australia nobody plays competitive sports at school. Sport is played at school but if you want to play at a high level you play at a club and then if you're a standout player at the club, you get selected to represent your state, which often leads to opportunities to play D1 college in the USA or professionally in Australia. 

It varies state to state but where I live in South Australia our clubs were called Districts. At district level there's 5 divisions. Division 1 is the best and Division 5 is the worst. District basketball goes from U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, youth league, and than open league. In open league there's still 5 divisions except Division 1 is called ABL, which is semi-professional and the league right under the NBL (National Basketball League). http://www.nbl.com.au/

Despite dedicating hundreds of hours to basketball I played from U12-U18 at district level in Division 2 and Division 3 usually as a starter. I was never naturally a great shooter but dedicating a lot of time to practice led me to being a decent shooter. My skills were my handles, speed, ability to get to the rim and create opportunities for team mates. Defensively I would stick to my opposition like glue and follow all the team structures and traps. My aim was to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the opposition and I loved getting steals. I played point guard and offensively I used my speed and handles to drive and penetrate to the rim. If I had space, I’d shoot but I was always a player looking to pass more than shoot. When I played in Div 3 I used to average around 25 points a game from U12s to U16s. After my junior season in U16s I never played Div 3 again.  In Div 2 my average went down to 15 points a game from U12s to U18s. However, in Div 1 I was just a bench player.

Division 1 and 2 used to train with each other 2x a week so i knew all the Div 1 coaches and players. In my senior U16 and senior U18 I finally made Div 1 but I would get 2 minutes of court time at best junk minute when the game was already decided. Those two seasons I sat through just sitting on the bench watching were terrible. That actually killed my desire to play and took the joy away from basketball. The two Point Guards I was behind were both junior U18 when I was a senior U18 and they both went on to play professionally- Tom Daly & Corey Maynard. Corey Maynard also played D1 at Bryant Bulldogs in the USA.
"As a senior in 2013–14, Maynard earned third-team All-NEC honours. In 31 games, he averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals in 35.2 minutes per game.[5]".

What was frustrating to watch was that a lot of guys that did play in Div 1 I personally thought I was better then. If I’d switched to a weaker club, I could’ve started Div 1 but I liked winning and playing for a strong team. A lot of the guys that did get picked in Div 1 were just tall and getting selected based off potential rather then their actual skills. At the time I thought it was unfair but now I’m older I can realise why the coaches did that. These players had a higher potential ceiling then guys like me who relied on hard work instead of talent and being naturally physically gifted. Hard work beats talent…when talent doesn’t work hard!!! The point of this long post is that IF those powerful 6'8 players overwhelming their competition with sheer physical advantage dominating in high school (they are fairly rare!) dedicated themselves to basketball, they would have a very strong chance of playing professional.

it's funny, the first minute-plus of the lebron video (after which i stopped watching) is almost entirely dunks, with a couple put-backs and one zion-like volleyball block. lots of high school players can dunk. he could dunk well, obviously, but so could this dude folarin campbell who played for my rival high school and then for george mason when they went to the final four. he could catch any lob, windmill on a fast break, whatever. best dunker i've ever seen up close, it was crazy.

dunking is the least relatively impressive part of lebron's game, even in high school. why not highlight the court vision, the body control, the passing, the strength? well, i guess the strength can't really show up against high school kids because high school kids are generally weak as shit. still, just seems odd.

the telfair highlights are way more impressive by comparison.

You only watched 10% of the clip but if you watch the whole thing you'll see they do highlight Lebron's skills, such as assists at 2:33, 3:13, 3:25 that were all in the same game. The highlights video even shows his stats for that game- 32 points, 17 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals!

It's not that Lebron dunks in games that's impressive. What is impressive is that he looks like a man playing against boys in high school. 6'8 with the speed, agility, mobility and handles of a point guard. Apart from his ability to get to the rim at will he can also shoot and pass. The average 6'8 basketballer is slow, lanky and awkward. They are the types of players that you have your heart in your mouth whenever they dribble thinking please just pass the ball before you turn it over. The 6'8 players that don't fit that stereotype are usually playing professionally if they can shoot well enough.

Telfair was an absolute phenom. He is the shortest ever player drafted straight from high school to the NBA. His NBA career was underwhelming and his weaknesses got exposed e.g. his size, defence and jump shot (or lack of). Even if Telfair had a better jumper he was never going to be as good as Lebron. At best Telfair would be like Iverson while Lebron is like Jordan.
