Strength, Power, Reactivity, & Speed Discussion / Re: Cold Weather Training
« on: February 10, 2012, 04:55:06 pm »
I don't know how old you are but I would not recommend training outdoors in the cold if you're over 30.  Even with proper warmup & attire I would seem to pull something whenever I tried to do any sort of physical activity outside in the cold.

Article & Video Discussion / Hang Snatch Alternative
« on: January 17, 2012, 11:21:09 am »
Just saw this vid posted by Daniel from JumpScience.com.  Looks like a good alternative until one learns how to do a snatch properly.  Maybe even better for jumping purposes?  Has anyone ever tried these before or know what they're called (I doubt this is a new exercise)?

Basketball / Re: Real basketball based on skill video

LOL, I'd love to play against that fat kid.

You're a masochist huh? Nice.

I'm 6'1 225.  When guys try to foul me hard on my drives they usually go flying or they get hurt.  I'd LOVE to see if this fat kid could actually knock me off my feet.  And if he fouled one of my teammates like that, I'd just dip my shoulder on a drive to the bucket and break the kid's rib.  I'm really shocked the other coach didn't have a football player on his team just for that purpose.

Jimmer's vert measured at 28 standing and 33 running.  Not great but respectable.  It wouldn't surprise me if some here couldn't match it.

Program Review / Re: Jump Science-Daniel Back
« on: December 26, 2011, 12:41:34 pm »
I purchased his program.  It's not really a 4 year program.  There are 15 levels depending on your access to weights (2 BW levels), flexibility (passing 2 'tests'), squat and your vertical to height ratio.  Each level has 3 4 week phases followed by a week of rest and testing.  If at the end of a phase you test out of that level, you begin the next phase in your new level is (e.g. at the end of Level A Phase 1 if you test into Level B you begin with Level B Phase 2.)  I personally think it's a solid program and have recommended it to others.

I can't comment on how much it helped my vertical since I never did before & after vert measurements and my legs were very overworked with basketball leagues at the time.  I can say that I got my highest leap on a dunk ever in while I was doing this program (clean dunk with the ball 1-2in above the rim...~35in vert for me I believe.)  Once I start back on it in Feb/Mar I'll be sure to take some measurements.

Nutrition & Supplementation / Re: Compression Clothing
« on: December 22, 2011, 03:23:45 pm »
eh....I just have compression shorts ($25, about the length of boxer briefs) because i have adductor issues.  Works well and allows me to go harder than I would otherwise.  Not sure about improving recovery time as I really can't compare due to the injury issues...without them I aggravate the injury and need a day or so to recover, with them I'm good to go the next day.

I wonder how his prison stint will go.  He's a real cocky and small guy so I could see alot of guys 200lb+ wanting to take a shot at him.   Not that I don't think he could hold his own against an untrained fighter that has him by 50-80lbs.  I outweigh him by that much and I'm sure he'd beat me pretty easily.

from what i'm reading sounds like you're headed towards something similar to the old school squats & milk routine.  there are several variations out there if you want to google it but the one i'm familiar with would have you following up your squats with a set of pullovers w/25lbs and then 2-3 circuits of dips, pullups and situps.
